What equipment are you thinking about?

Recommended Posts

As someone who played a lot as a kid and then very little for 30 years, I'm now on golf overload as my daughters are showing interest combined with me discovering launch monitors and golf sim. I'm sore today from hitting too many balls, but more so from cutting up my stance mat in order to put in softer hitting strips.

As for equipment, my 13 year old lefty daughter only seems to care about the color scheme of her set and I managed to find a left handed Taylor Made spider mini in colors she loves.

I also found a set of Takomo 101s with senior shafts my dad will be coming over to hit today.

And next Saturday I'm doing my first club fitting ever to get myself some new irons. So many great looking irons now and I'm open to them all. I have a driver swing speed around 100, and hope to be shooting in the low 80s by spring. I grew up playing forged blades and 20 years ago got a set of Ping i3 oversized. I'm excited to see how the modern irons compare during the fitting.

While I was perusing Golfworks this morning (the things I do when I wake up at 6am on a Sunday), I started digging into the Maltby fairways. I know there are some Maltby gamers here, so I am curious if anybody has tried their fairway offerings. Thanks!

I’m looking real hard at a set of AP1 714’s that are in pretty good shape and the price looks pretty good. My question is does anyone have an opinion on them? I’m pretty sure they’re solid as most things Titleist are pretty solid. I have Radspeed irons currently but after one season they’re leaving me with a meh feeling. If I trade them I will probably make out but if I don’t I have 2 righties in the house that can use them in the future. Just looking for input from you all. Thanks Spies

I’ve got a bad reeling about this

Sweet! Thank you

You may also want to check Google for reviews on these irons, there were many other reviews there, but I have "restricted" internet at work and could not see all of them or add links.

If I recall they were the first Titleist distance irons that had forgiveness also made a priority.

I'm thinking about buying new wedges before the start of the season. The grooves on my current Vokeys are definitely getting very worn down, especially with all the sim practice I've been doing this winter.

The MGS testing on the TaylorMade wedges have my interest, but you also can't go wrong with Vokeys. Might pull the trigger on a set if I can find a good deal somewhere...

After getting used to playing with worn groove wedges, you will be surprised how much zip you will see when you get fitted for new wedges.  Wedge fittings can be a lot of fun too.  There are a ton of different wedges you can try out there.

Im thinking about purchasing a driving/utility iron. My iron set now goes up to a 5 iron and have some odd gaping issues. I had a 4/5 hybrid as because when I first started golf a couple years ago I didn’t have the ball striking to hit anything above a 5 iron. My 5 iron and hybrid go roughly the same distance now (within 5 yards of each other). I’m thinking I’ll trade in the hybrid as my ball striking is now one of the stronger parts of my game.

I still have a 3H so I’m on the fence about adding a 4i to my set and just going 3H 3W Driver or adding a 17-19 degree driving iron as they are a little easier and more forgiving than a 4 iron. I also like the idea of having a club that can stay low and I can hit off the tee on windy days or narrow courses.

I have played a lot of different wedges: Vokeys, Ping Glide, Mizunos, Tayloremade for a short time, Cleveland, Edel. Just about every major brand lol.

I was fit only for the Edel, those were off a mat, and primarily focused on full swing. For the Vokeys, I'm keeping an open mind, not sure what I will fit into.

I’m looking at possibly changing my wedges and fairways. Loved my Vokey SM9 58* T grind for most of last year, but swing changes have me coming in a bit steeper with the wedges. I’m finding the T grind a bit too demanding lately. I’m either scooping or topping the thing. Also want to possibly edit my 3HL/5W/7W combo at the top of the bag. I really think I can cover the distances needed with 2 fairway woods rather than three if properly fitted. I plan on going to Club Champion in the upcoming weeks to get everything dialed in for the upcoming season, and I’ll also be checking the gapping on my irons while there. It’ll be the first time I’ve been properly fitted and I’m really looking forward to it!

I’m thinking about getting a pair of Jordan Low G golf shoes.  I’ve worn Foot joy mostly, pro SL.  I’ve had a pair of foot joy for 4 years and a pair of Ecco for 2 years. I wouldn’t mind having another pair to wear around.

I wear Jordan Lows as my kick around sneaker.  I think it’s time to make the switch.
