RickM71
I signed up to do a fitting at PXG for Saturday as I've been reading many people think the 0311 XP and P models are very soft and forgiving. I really enjoy the feel of a soft iron, but would benefit from the game improvement forgiveness on off center hits. I don't really mind looking at larger or odd shaped clubs if I feel I can hit it well. The XP looks to be more forgiving but has extra strong lofts. It looks like the lofts are almost a club stronger than the forged tecs I'm hitting now, which are already one club stronger than what I used to hit. Any suggestions with things to prepare for or ask about during a PXG fitting? I tried going in and just asking to hit a few balls with their irons as I can probably tell pretty quickly if they will compete with other irons I'm considering, but they said I had to schedule a fitting to try them. I know nothing about PXG but you will find most Forged clubs will offer a super buttery feel and if you do not like the PXG I suggest finding a set of PING I500 irons as they offer a forged face and also tons of forgiveness. Think of a game improvement iron that is not a game improvement iron and more of a players distance that just so happens to be realy forgiving, beautiful, thin top line and in between Game Improvement size and player iron size and is suitable for any golfer from scratch to a 16hdcp and they look super sexy!!! A forgiving hollow body club that looks like a Taylormade 790 or Titleist 200 but nicer imo of course cksurfdude, Rob Person, William P and 2 others 4 1 Quote WITB Driver is PING G430 MAX 10K 9° W/VENTUS BLACK 44.5" TOUR VELVET GRIP 3 WOOD TAYLORMADE M2 15° W/ADDI BB TOUR VELVET GRIP IRONS PING G410 4 AND 5 IRON W/X100 IRONS 6-9 PING I200 W/X100 WEDGES TITLEIST VOKEY SM8 48° CHROME VOKEY 52° 56° AND 60 ALL IN CHROME FINISH WITH DYNAMIC GOLD AND MCC+4 GRIPS SCOTTY CAMERON TOUR RAT GSS 350G MATADOR GRIP SUN MOUNTAIN C-130 CART BAG NIKON LASER TITLEIST PRO V

BreakfastBall15
As much as I like the looks of the Wilson dynapower forged and the Srixon ZX 5/7 MKII, I’m leaning towards Sub 70 based off price. berkeleybob
@BreakfastBall15 Sub 70 offers demo clubs to send to you so you can try them out. They’re pretty good on the phone to answer questions as well. I recently got the 699 V2 irons. I’m loving the forgiveness aspect, not sure how that translates to the pro version. I understand that they are a little larger and a little more offset. If you have a specific question, I can try to answer, but your best bet might be to take advantage of their demo process. Mine are black, so I don’t notice the badge. berkeleybob
@BreakfastBall15 This is my 7-iron. I got these marks first time out with the clubs last month. They were due to loose debris around the course from a windstorm the previous night. Really, I think I got them on the very-busy-weekend-no-mat driving range during warm-up. There was hardly any grass to tee the ball on, and my first swings were fat. My reaction was like what happens when getting that first scratch on a new car: “My Baby!” Now, it doesn’t bother me since I have to look at the face closely to see them. It’s fine at address. One more thing, I looked it up, the black 699 V2 have a DLC coating while the original 699 have Tour PVD finish. They talked about it on the forum on the other thread. For irons they will send you a 6 & 9 iron typically. Upfront cost is like $150 I think. Once returned they refund you everything minus the $20. I have used this a bunch. same with woods/driver's. they also have fitting carts, you would need to go on their website and see if there is one close by. For me it wasn’t an option until recently. Given up playing in almost all tournaments that I use to play in ( was a big match play tourney addict ).In other tournament formats if there isn’t a play for fun flight and I believe in the charity, I just donate. Don’t do handicaps any longer either, not much point. I enjoy my playing as an Ancient Ager…..Golf life is still good, it is just different now. It's a tough one to embrace and will be hard for me but it's coming like a speeding freight train!!! Going to be hard for me as I need an additional golf cart just to carry my ego but when that day comes my bag re fit will look like yours as that all looks pretty solid!!! Do not quit playing scrambles with the best ball format!!! One of my neighbors is 74 yrs old and we have him on our team everytime!!! We have a couple bombers to take care of length but we use a ton of his approach shots, chips and certainly putts!!!! There is a position for everyone at a Scramble and I liked hearing you state you donate only to charities you approve of!!!! I was mortified when I started researching some of the charities I have supported when I saw how much the CEO made and what percentage of my money actually went to the said "beneficiaries" I donate alot and organize events for Ronald McDonald House, Brain and Behavior Institute and Cancer Research Institute I take solace knowing that money is being used for good only!! Once returned they refund you everything minus the $20. I have used this a bunch. same with woods/driver's. they also have fitting carts, you would need to go on their website and see if there is one close by. For me it wasn’t an option until recently. There is a cart fitting about 4hrs away that I have not been to, so I can’t say how that works. The fittings I have done with with them has been at their location in Sycamore,Ill. That's a great idea and I have always wondered what avenue they used!!! That shows alot of confidence in their product as well because at 20 bucks net if someone doesn't buy that's a loser. To be fair, I do play a lot of golf (5/6 rounds a week) but still, the finish did not last long at all. I work in the automotive body industry: I would be remiss to think that anything painted, anodized or powdercoated would take the beating of a swing speed of 90+mph and releasing a ball over 100+mph WITHOUT scraping or chipping. Think of your car: you get chips and nicks on it and don't have have to go 90+mph to get them! @J7Hawkins pictures make perfect sense. Just MY personal opinion: if you can get the blackout clubs for the same price, go for it. But I do believe no matter what, you're going to damage the black finish on any club. It's the nature of the beast. Now, if the actual metal was cast that color, you have a different story! But, adding color to a casting weakens the metal.... so, back to square one! That is terrible!!!!! I have had Callaway Black Irons that barely showed a ball spot on the face and nothing around it and also Cobra S2 in black and they barely even showed a ball mark after heavy use!! PXG needs to figure that out or quit making black sets!!
