What equipment are you thinking about?

null

Recommended Posts

Thinking of replacing my Ping i-crossover Driving Iron (2 iron) which came with a light steel shaft with a used GD Tour AD hybrid shaft.  Still trying to figure out if it fits at the tip and whether I should go with a heavier graphite shaft weight.  Or if the tip doesn’t fit, do I just put a Titleist tip and put it into my TS hybrid.

Very Keen to figuring this out.

I am debating about getting the Rapsodo MLM2 Pro but I have little space at home to use it. I could set it up in the basement but I would only be able to hit wedges and short irons. I would primarily use it on the range for more productive practice, however we have snow on the ground 6 months of the year minimal. Not sure if it would be worth the $700 price tag.

I haven't used the mlm2pro, but I bought a garmin r10 about a year ago, using it only in my basement. While I have low ceilings, I can hit my driver, but most people would hit my ceiling with long clubs / driver.

Depending on how low your ceiling is, even if you can hit 7 iron through wedge, it could be worth it. Based on my experience and enjoyment from having the ability to hit balls in my basement, I would totally get a launch monitor even if I could only hit 8 iron and less. It is enough to get some full swing work and you can really improve your scoring by getting more accurate distances from 40-120 yards.

You would also need to make sure you have enough space behind your hitting area and a long enough space in front for the device to track the ball flight before it hits the net / screen.

The mlm2pro can be used with simulatuon software which is fun, even if only playing par 3 courses with short clubs.

I enjoyed it so much that I splurged and upgraded to a more expensive launch monitor to get better spin numbers and also be able to track putting. The mlm2pro would give much more accurate side spin numbers compared to the garmin r10, but I don't believe it can track putting. They are great devices if they fit your space and use needs.

The Rapsodo does not track putting…while playing a course you set up parameters that will count putts (standard is inside 10 feet is a 1-putt, inside 30 feet is a 2-putt, on green outside of this is a 3-putt).

For me, being able to dial in distances and the ease of practicing at home is great.  The downside is that it showed some clubs that I struggled with (data just confirmed what I knew) and resulted in some changes within the bag.

If you need putting also @LeftyKP, can always get the ExPutt and set up next to the Rapsodo!

There is a test ongoing for that as well:

Just set yourself up an entire practice area in the basement!

I am potentially thinking of something insane as a golfing experiment for 2025... hybrids, all hybrids for irons. Not like XL Halo or TE Iron-Woods, just hybrids. I can get it to 35* with major companies, or I could spring for the set through Eleven Golf with KBS TGI's. I feel like I'm losing my mind considering the options out there, but it's fun to dream.

Funny you should say this. In my sim I regularly do the GS Pro skills test which has you hit shots from various distances and it scores your results. For whatever reason the 180 yard carry has been absolutely killing my scores. It's like 1/3 of my 5 iron shots I'm hitting fat or just way off direction wise. If they were on the course, they add one and possibly more strokes to my score. I was thinking maybe I should swap for a higher lofted hybrid or wood. My instinct is to try to correct the swing flaw causing my issue, but I have not had much luck trying so far.

As far as equipment I'm thinking about today, I'd have to lean towards the ex putt, so I can have a fun way to practice putting in my home.

I don’t game a 5 iron because I am not consistent enough with the club.  My bag stops at 6 iron.   With the struggles you describe d look toward hybrid or something in the 9 wood range.

Good suggestion. Thank you.

I grew up playing before hybrids were a thing and early testing with them was erratic. I recently picked up a 3 hybrid that I'm growing to like as an alternative off the tee on tighter short holes. I hit it almost as far as a 5 wood, which I also hit pretty well. I'm not sure which I'll wind up being more confident with longer term but for now I'm carrying the hybrid.

I can see possibly dropping the 6 iron too if I find I do better with hybrids.

I will still work on fixing the swing fault, but I'm realizing equipment can compensate for a lot of my issues and makes the game more enjoyable.

Next on my list of golf gear is a new golf bag. Want a 14 slot bag. I am tired of my club grips catching on each other in my current bag. Can’t quite decide between a cart or a stand bag. I almost always walk and use a push cart.

Also mostly walk with a push cart. Check out the Bag Boy hybrid - Maple Hill Golf recently had them on sale. Before this one I had a Datrek hybrid I liked.

The Bag Boy has a 14 way top with individual dividers, a lot of roomy pockets and other nice features. It's a bit heavier but then for me it spends more of its time on the cart, not my back.

There is a pretty big community for support for the mlm2pro so you may want to get your questions answered before you go down the rabbit hole.. Be prepared to also pay $250 / year for GS Pro. I don't know what simulator options come with the mlm2pro, but GS Pro is fantastic software and a bargain compared to any other simulator software I've seen. I use the GS Pro driving range most of the time for practice, plus the skills test.

For playing courses, you'd have to set it to autoputt, although there are ways to configure an ex putt or a webcam to track putting. I have a lefty who plays and the webcam approach was too unreliable when I used it with my garmin r10. It was so much fun though that I upgraded. It becomes a big jump in price to get units with decent putting tracking.

The simulator was one of the few things I've really splurged on and I have zero regrets.

There are a significant number (they note around 30000) that come with the Rapsodo.  You can also link with Awesome golf and E6 golf.

There is a yearly fee for some of the features of the Rapsodo as well, the first year is free and then it is $200 after that.  It will still work but won’t have the same data/functions available.

been really looking into these jumbo grips since I do have large hands (measuring just 8” from base of palm to tip of middle finger). I do currently run Larkin oversized grips and I find that especially on the range I get cramping in my fingers from feeling like I have to grip harder than I want to, to feel a secure grip. I do have fast swing speeds already and I think maybe that’s cause it the heavy grip I have on it and maybe some contribution to the fade I’ve had.

Edited by PrismFlopper

Been playing for about 2 years in total. Winter breaks and a 6month period when I got sick. Starting to feel like myself again and recently played a “okay” round.
I currently have custom fit Cobra LTDx irons/wedges, a Vokey 60(cause my short game has been the best part of my game, and a Maverick 9 deg. Driver. Driving is the worst part of my game so My 4 iron usually takes alot of the long game abuse.

I say if it does the job don't knock it... Having gone through a couple of shoulder surgeries, I know just how good that ice pack can feel from time to time.

Trying to avoid surgery #2 on that arm.  I was just thinking about how good it was feeling for the past 7 years or so…. I thought it into a little something I didn’t like today at the range.  Should be ok, I did  have a little twinge in it about a year ago that was similar to this but not golf swing related.

Thinking about Halo XLs which would make the most sense for me and my game.

Also thinking about how high and awesome I hit the ball when I tried out some Cobra OLs a little while back, at least the scoring clubs anyways 6i/5i were way too low for me to play effectively. As a low ball hitter I'm always looking for ways to hold more greens with my approach shots.

Still thinking about these. Actually almost pulled the trigger on some HB Turbos that were a great price but I’m prob gonna hold out for the Halo XLs once this season wraps up.

In my Big Max hybrid bag:

Definitely take care of it as those surgeries and recovery are no fun at all...
