Keeping your groves clean on the range

OK, dumb question...

I was watching a player on the range and he was somehow cleaning the face of his irons with his shoe. Our range is sandy and I recently switched to forged irons. I could wipe the face with a towel after every shot but it takes longer to get off the range if i do that.

How do you keep your grooves clean while hitting shots on the practice tee?

I park my ClicGear off just to the right behind me and have a big towel clipped to it. I can reach the towel from my stance and just hook it with the club and drag it across. Not effective if scrubbing is necessary, but good for wet grass and loose soil!

My foot gets the big clumps of mud off. I use a brush when I want to make it spotless. And I use a tee just to clean the grooves.

Backing off the ball to clean the face and run a tee through the grooves occasionally is actually a good idea :P it stops you getting into a rhythm that is impossible to achieve on the golf course.

'Hit 'n drag' practice where you are taking no breaks to clean the clubface, check target alignment or just generally taking your time can be a nasty habit to get into.

I back off and run a tee through the grooves at least every other shot whilst I'm hitting balls. Another trick I use (although I'm drifting off topic now) is to place the balls far enough away that I have to move to fetch the next one.

Quality not quantity remember folks ;) A clean clubface will add to the chances of that so take the time.

I use a brush that has plastic bristles on one side and wire on the other. The range I frequent has buckets of water and brushes to aid in cleaning your irons.

I have a frogger brush on my bag. feels a little cheap but as long as you are nice to it, it does a great job on the grooves and the face

Nothing helps you find a lost ball better than a provisional hit straight down the middle.

I have a charter pocket brush. Pull it out of the pocket, slide the brass brush out and swipe it a few times and go.

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.
