He watched you hit shots, and still had to ask you if you were a digger or sweeper? I guess he is new!

Whoops, he asked first then watched 😁

Spent a hour on the chipping green with Maverick (aka) 53° Wedge. Let's just say get me within 50 yards of the pin on the short grass... and I'll give you a gimme putt. From the rough 3-7' left.

Long lag putts? Yes. 7-10's? Fo Sho!

Getting my son ready for a team event tomorrow. He is in good shape and his father is not half bad either. I put the sticks down for a few weeks due to other obligations and the layoff did me well. Swing felt god for the 30 or so balls that I hit.

Spent about 2.5 hrs at the range today working on alignment and pre-shot routine for about 30 mins. Took a 10 min breather and set up station for videoing my swing, first noticed I was getting a cupped wrist at top of swing due to length of take away. Decided to work on shortening my swing and proper footwork to keep my self from tucking my butt under me during downswing. All in all by end of session I was hitting sweet spot on every shot.

Back at the chipping green with my gym shorts and tee shirt... yeah, I ran around the neighborhood by the course and then did some chipping. Anyways, as I was embracing my inner "Alan Vision" an old timer walked up and said, you sure do know your way around a wedge. Good to get compliments. I then holed 3 "mini flops" in a row.

Never got that either. There's one course by me that has I'd guess 150-200 range balls around their short game area

I snuck in about 20 chips between the heavy rain squalls that were blowing through. Would have liked to have worked on a bit more, but the weather was awful.

Nice to know that I amaze you. Yes, I practice chipping with range balls. Of course most of the time I am just working on making solid contact. Blading and chunking isn't related to what ball I use.

Dropped the loft on my 3 wood today from 14.5° to 12.75° I think. (Can't find the loft chart)

I could get used to that ball flight, and distance. It's my Henrik club. Probably never leaving my bag.

And I was working on that Ollie S bullet shot. 3 iron is a weapon again, need a 1-2 iron. Hmm. MP-18 Fli Hi 16.5°...

Been working on balance lately, keeping my whole body in perfect balance throughout the swing. The key has been swinging barefoot. I've been chipping in the backyard barefoot and today went out to the range sans shoes as well.

I haven't worn shoes, other than to Target today, for the past week. I've been looking for new golf shoes and frankly nothing out there is what I'm looking for, a minimal design that mimics playing barefoot. So I decided to go with these.

As close to barefoot golfing as I can get while still giving me some protection when I miss the fairway or even the rough.

I'm looking for some golf shoe soles, so I can have my birkenstocks made into golf shoes. I don't care what anyone says. Best dang shoes I've ever owned. I remember when my wife bought my first pair... I said I AM NOT wearing those... 11 years later and 4 pairs down... I wish they made work boots.

Yup. Birkies in the summer and Merrells in the winter for me. Both have super arch support but I think that has hurt my balance in my swing actually. Been reading more about the benefits of minimalist footwear and am intrigued.

I've done it and it is wonderful. Some places frown upon it a bit though and if you miss a fairway and end up in some of the waste areas here you want a bit protection on the bottom of your feet.

Spent some time on the greens today. I'll be focusing there for the next few weeks. Here's the little lunch time routine I came up with.

20 minutes on practice green

Random hole selection putting until the ball goes in

20 minutes on chipping green

The chipping green has 5 target pins so I practiced getting up and down for 2 rounds.

Round 1: 5@each made 23/25

Round 2: 3@each made 14/15

Really enjoyed that so I think I'll keep this one in the practice book. Still found a way to work up a sweat.

This was a long season so kudos to you if you read the whole thing. You may deserve a beer if we ever play together. I've had some personal stuff going on lately so I blocked off some time for some much needed range therapy. I gave my 52* a workout.

First half: Chipping green

Did the same drill from the other day going up and down. I shot 5 balls at 5 targets over 2 rounds. This time, I picked a harder tee and had much more difficult putts as a result.

IMG_4840.JPG

The tee

IMG_4841.JPG

Round 2 scatter. I didn't even think to take pics until now. Round 1 was all over the place and you couldn't even tell which hole the balls belonged to.

IMG_4842.JPG

After a made a putt, I'd throw the balls into a pile. On the left is round 1 (14/25) and the right is round 2 (19/25)

Second Half: Pitching Green

I threw scatters of balls at 75, 85, 100, 115, and 125 then hit them all with the 52* at this green.

IMG_4845.JPG

There was a decent cross breeze so the longer shots were coming L to R about 15-20 yards. I love playing in wind like this because it makes things interesting. 125 is definitely outside the comfortable range of this club but it can be done if necessary.

After hitting all of those, I flopped some balls from the 115 trying to land them on the 75 marker. This was the resulting cluster between 60-70 yards out.

IMG_4844.JPG

After flopping those balls, I took some whacks with my 3 wood and hybrid since I just got some align grips put on them. Side note: I like those grips. An overly strong grip gets me from time to time and those are a nice reminder to keep it neutral.

Then I went up to the flopped balls and chipped those balls onto the green by using my "pick it" swing.

Here's the scatter of the session. Only had 3 land short and 1 in the bunker (duffed pick shot). The rest were on or slightly long. These are mostly rocks so I don't mind the long shots since they're landing the right distance. Normal balls on a normal green would stop.

IMG_4846.JPG

Total time: 2 hours

It was a great workout and I always love coming out here when no one is out. Just me, my thoughts, and the green. Thanks for reading.

Went to the range last evening with two objectives- first, tempo and getting my left shoulder under my chin (backswing) and back facing the target.  That sets me up for the second objective, which is a "Matsuyama-like" pause at the top, and a smooth, slowly accelerating transition to an inside out swing and 10 - 12 yard draw.

Works for most of my irons and hybrid, but cannot for the life of me, consistently get my driver or 3 wood to do the same.  I even set the driver head from Square to closed and shifted the weights so the heavy weight is at the toe to see if that would help- and it did seem to help, even the misses were less pushed right, but still not exactly where I want them to be.

Always open to suggestions from the group!

My same issue. No pause, but I bet your tempo is quicker with the woods. Mine usually gets stupid fast because I feel like I need to smush the ball. When I swing what feels like 80% with my woods it works, with better distance.

Just my personal set up, I hit a draw from a slightly open stance, check out Zach Johnson, he looks like he is going to hit a cut every time, but he is open and hits a sweeping draw (most of the time).

What I thought was square was actually extremely closed. What is square feels extremely open to me, but slightly open feels square. That makes no sense.
