russtopherb
Another bucket at the range trying to figure out my driver, and yet another realization that my 3w is just the better play. I mentioned in the "how'd you play thread" that once I benched the driver the other day and went to 3w I scored much better and was actually outdriving 2 of our group on a few of the holes thanks to runout. Today at the range my 3w was automatic off the tee and the driver... was not. I don't want to end the season frustrated so I put the driver away and just hit wedges and irons to flags and elevated greens after working on the 3w for a while. Hopefully I'll be able to get at least one more round in before the snow hits in full and I'm just leaving the driver in the trunk. My approach came from years of walking to my ball from the cart path to the other side of the green with several clubs, not knowing what the lie was like, and then not having the club I wanted. Never liked carrying a bunch of clubs, so I worked on using my LW for all shots. Eliminated the decision on which club to use. It seemed like I was always picking the shot and the club, then hitting the shot wrong for that club. cksurfdude, sirchunksalot and Rickp 3 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

sirchunksalot
I played a round today for the Classic Bag Challenge, and while my woods and putter were good, the irons and wedges were bad. Lots of chunks and a few shanks thrown in for good measure. I hit the range with a small bucket and took my PW, 7, and 5 irons to practice with. I started hitting some short shots with a quicker tempo than I used on the course and started hitting them good. Moved on to the longer irons with the same results, best feeling shots I've felt all day. I tend to get a bit tense on the course and was trying to remind myself to relax. Hopefully I'll remember this thought and be able to take it to the course. cnosil, Rickp, cksurfdude and 2 others

edingc
I bought the DownUnderBoard last night, and after watching Bradley's introduction video, I started messing around with the feels in the basement before the board arrives. The concept of the board is to "squeeze" it during your backswing and downswing. I ordered it for my backswing specifically - I struggle to correctly internally rotate my right hip. However, I was messing with the feels in my basement and am now really excited to go hit balls for another reason - the downswing. Ever since I started lessons with my coach, we've tried to get me to stop getting to my left heel so quickly in my downswing. I realized that by "squeezing" my left foot in on the downswing, my hips move in such a way that my weight shifts correctly! This is all with half swings and whiffles of course, but I'm hoping to get out to the range this weekend and now I'm really excited to try out this new feel! bens197, cksurfdude, russtopherb and 3 others 6 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. I am interested if it does give you the same feel as the board or not. Place two balls under the outside of your right foot (heel and midstep) so it makes your foot angle toward the ball and promotes the weight toward your right toes rather than heel. Your right knee will also be 'kicked in' with a slight lean toward the ball. Take a few 3/4 swings, you will not be able to sway or fall too far back on the backswing and it promotes moving your weight transfer through the ball on the downswing rather than falling backwards. edingc and cksurfdude 2 Quote Modern Bag: G410 LST 10.5*, Hzrdus Smoke RDX 6.5 Flex; 915F 3w, Diamana S+ 70 S flex; Snake Eyes 18* 2h, 23* 4h & 27* 5h; JPX 900 Forged 6 - PW, PX LZ 6.0; Edison 2.0 49*, 53*, 57* KBS Tour 120 S; Heppler Fetch; Ball - MTB-X; Bag - Jones MyGolfSpy Edition! I've done this drill in the past and it never felt quite right. It does do a similar thing as the board, I presume (hard to tell since I'm only imagining the board between my feet at this point). Ironically, the kicked in right knee was my go to to stop a sway, but I don't rotate hardly at all that way and it causes my swing to become all arms. GolfSpy_SHARK
Last night started the indoor chipping season. My stairs act as a ball return. Really focusing on my path because I was struggling this year with toeing off the green...really pissed me off... Also not being able to swing is getting old....Its only been a week since I had a minor surgery...chipping just doesnt give you the fix. russtopherb
I was able to get a small bucket in during some crazy wind gusts so I tried to focus on lowering my ballflight if I could. Narrator voice: He couldn't. I also was able to dial in the Bertha Mini. I left it at the stock 14* and moving it over to the D setting gave me really nice penetrating, pretty straight flight. And best of all? NO GARBAGE SHOTS. Period. Every single thing I hit after the first few shots when I was trying to figure out tee height and ball placement would have either been in the fairway or just off of it. I cannot wait to get out there Wednesday to play 18. cksurfdude, GolfSpy_SHARK, tony@CIC and 3 others 6 Quote In my carry bag: ST-X 10.5* Kai'li Blue R Flex ST-Z 15* Kai/li Blue R Flex ST-Z 4h Linq Blue R Flex Launcher 5h Launcher CBX 6i-PW CBX 54* & 58* Huntington Beach #10 e12 Contact CURRENTLY TESTING - Mizuno Long Game
Shapotomous
8 hours ago, Chip Strokes said: i’d be careful here promoting an internally rotated hip position and attempting to apply any force to a valgus knee. as an aid to achieve a certain feel it’s probably fine but i wouldn’t apply any significant force as it’s a very weak position for both the hip and knee joint. edit: i’m aware this position occurs naturally in the swing (back leg in the downswing, close to impact and sometimes front leg in the backswing), but it’s a position your body passes through on its way to a more structurally solid position. my caution is against setting the hip and knee that way and loading against it. 6 hours ago, edingc said: I've done this drill in the past and it never felt quite right. It does do a similar thing as the board, I presume (hard to tell since I'm only imagining the board between my feet at this point). Ironically, the kicked in right knee was my go to to stop a sway, but I don't rotate hardly at all that way and it causes my swing to become all arms. Also, as @Chip Strokes mentioned, it caused a lot of knee pain for me during a full swing. I stated 3/4 swing not a full swing but its good to emphasize it for those that missed it initially..... 3/4 swing!!! edingc and cksurfdude 2 Quote Modern Bag: G410 LST 10.5*, Hzrdus Smoke RDX 6.5 Flex; 915F 3w, Diamana S+ 70 S flex; Snake Eyes 18* 2h, 23* 4h & 27* 5h; JPX 900 Forged 6 - PW, PX LZ 6.0; Edison 2.0 49*, 53*, 57* KBS Tour 120 S; Heppler Fetch; Ball - MTB-X; Bag - Jones MyGolfSpy Edition! tony@CIC
Finally back doing the golf thing. Without going into a lot of detail, I lost strength in the legs for almost any activity, including standing and balance. After impressive work done by my primary care physician. cardiologist, and great physical therapists, all is in order for doing "golf activities". So far I can chip and putT and lightly swing my Orange Whip. So I did a little of each. Results were "OK" for now. All showed severe rust; but, I expected that. Great to be back!Glad to have you back! Kenny B
I went out this morning to play; absolutely beautiful sunny day with only a slight breeze. Today was our annual Turkey Trot tournament, but it was canceled... no large gatherings allowed. The tournament was for Thanksgiving at the Mission so we brought a frozen turkey and canned goods. I was going to post this in the How'd you play? thread, but it ended up being a practice round instead. The course was packed!! My wife and I were stuck between two foursomes, and the pace was sloooow. I waited on every shot. At the 2 hour mark for the front nine, we still had 2 holes to play. I knew it would be slow since every other Friday is Hanford Friday Off work, and with this weather I think EVERYONE was off. I knew it would be slow, so I used the extra time to hit multiple shots at certain locations I know very well. Driver was fine, but lower flight than I like; irons were OK but temps were in the high 40's so the ball didn't carry as far as I thought it should, so came up short a few times. Chipping and putting were good. I'm playing tomorrow; similar weather but a few more clouds and 6-7 degrees cooler.
