cksurfdude
Hit a small bucket (60 balls at this place) this afternoon, trying to move my body and arms decently through the swing and make solid contact with different clubs aiming at different targets. The real underlying goal.. was try to rebuild a little confidence after two verrrry disappointing 9 hole rounds during the past week. Semi successful .. wedges thru 8i all reasonably solid; couldn't hit the 7i for whatever reason(s); 5H ok-ish; 4W kinda 50-50 .. still hitting some too high on the face and out towards the toe a little. Gonna play tomorrow so we'll see how the confidence (and the aging joints) hold up! Rickp, Shapotomous, sirchunksalot and 1 other 4 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... edingc
Hit two buckets today at the heated range for the first time this offseason. We'll call it the start of "Project Long Iron." My goal this offseason is to really work on my 4 hybrid/5 iron/6 iron because they are the weakest part of my iron game. I also took the 7 iron and gap wedge with me to warm up with. Given it was my first range session in a month, I'm not disappointed with the results but wish they had been a bit better. I hit the 7 iron and gap wedge really well, but definitely am still struggling with the longer clubs. I really tried to focus on the feels from the DownUnderBoard videos, but I can tell I'm going to need the actual board to make progress with the longer clubs. I also need to adjust back to mats and horrible range balls. The heated range uses a majority of completely worn out Nike range balls with very few dimples. I use my Mevo throughout the session to track ball speeds, but I assume they are at least a few MPH (if not more) slow, and even the ball flight is tough to trust because they do funky things in the air without good dimples. josmi15, fozcycle, Shapotomous and 3 others 6 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Multi item practice today. With wedges, worked on an old stance I used and worked wonders. Was getting nice control and roll with it on both Cleveland wedges. putting, worked on lag putting. Also worked on having a light grip and let the club do the work. Feel will take some work. irons, worked on compressing the ball. Hit on the grass and had a ball at the same point to compare divot to other ball. 7/10 I was able to do this with most clubs I hit. 4/5/7/W/54. The DI off the deck no luck on that from the ground. Some were also little to no divot which I counted as good. Feeling much better with my ball striking now. Also worked on some shaping by slightly strengthening my right hand, grip is pretty weak on the right hand bad I close the face too much. cksurfdude, Kenny B, Shapotomous and 1 other 4 Quote Follow my journey to enjoying golf and going low Driver: Epic Max LS Ventus Black 6x 44.5" 3wHL: Rogue ST LS 75x Tensei AV Blue w/ xlink 7w: Apex UW 21* MMT 80S DI: Caley 01X 18* with KBS PGH Stiff plus 95g 4-AW: 0211 with KBS Tour Stiff 2.5* up 3/4" long, Soft stepped, MOI matched Wedges Zipcore Putter: L.A.B. Similar for me, but I started only using wedges and 9i because a year ago I had a difficult time with full shots. Most of my range time was spent with PW/9i, and also LW/SW/GW in the pitching area. Now I struggle with the longer irons, because I rarely hit them on the range. It has even crept into my hybrids which are usually solid. Now that I have fixed the short clubs, I will be focusing on longer clubs this winter. So next year I predict I will have a putting issue!! edingc and cksurfdude 2 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

One thing I will say for our muni... they take out the well-used range balls and periodically add new ones. We have a grass range, but they put out mats in the fall until March. These are not the typical mats I have hit off of at other ranges; they are relatively soft; very easy on the hands/arms and the ball launches very high. Off the very firm turf, launch is much lower. cksurfdude, Rickp, edingc and 1 other 4 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

I'm thankful for this range, despite the quality of balls. Nice Fiberbuilt mats, and the heat is good enough to be outside swinging as long as it's above 10-15 degrees. And his price for a large bucket is less than almost everywhere else even with heat ($12). I understand why the balls are bad, since they sit under the snow for a long time. My only other option for a heated range would cost something like $60 for the same amount of balls. GolfSpy BOS
Will be headed to the simulator for an hour on lunch today. Going to take my oldest son with me so just using it as a range and some fun with him. I would just got to an outdoor range but if I play one more hour at the sim facility I'll get a free "membership" for the winter so I'll save $10 an hour all winter. The place is the least expensive around to begin with so the plan is to go 2 or 3 times a month over the winter. It will be good today anyway to just hit some balls since I'll be playing on Black Friday and it's been a little while since I've played. My plan for today was originally to put the turkey in the smoker and go over the yard with the mower, but it rained last night and I hate wet grass clogging the mower up. sirchunksalot
I hit the range today in preparation for a round I have scheduled for tomorrow. I've been hitting the classic clubs and neglecting some of my regular gamers and thought I would take a couple of them out just to show them some love. Started the session off by consistently chunking my 56 degree on 20-30 yard shots, then moved on to hitting shots around 60 yards and was hitting it pretty good. I dnt through a progression of my classic irons and once I settled down was hitting some pretty good shots. I'm working on simplifying my swing thoughts, and once I did contact improved. My first thought is " no chicken wing". I have noticed a bad habit of letting my lead arm get away from my body and I feel that leads to some of my bad contact. My second thought comes from watching Danny Maude, "the swing is an arc". I try to focus on a spot just right of where my aim point is and make sure the club is going over it. I hit more good shots today than in a while. My alignment still needs work, I tend to hit the ball a bit left of my target more than I like. My only concern with today was the range going to mats only. I feel like they mask a lot of mistakes. I also took the Cobra 7 iron out just to prove I can hit a 7 past 120 yards. I did see something funny out there, I watched the ball collector hit one of the yardage markers. Balls went everywhere! You could tell he was embarrassed and when he got out to fix it he yelled back at the range "that's why you don't get in your phone while driving". cksurfdude, Shapotomous, tony@CIC and 4 others
Shapotomous
If you are consistently left maybe you need some heel relief on your wedge or a flatter lie angle? I did a wedge session tonight too. About 80 shots of 65 yards with the 53*. I hit 40 and noticed a slight heel drag (practice mat rash) pulling a lot of shots left. I couldn't resist... so i hit the belt sander and took a little off the heel side of the sole. The ball flight was more consistently on target for the next 40 shots, a lot less dispersion to the left. Was it the grind or just aim or a better swing or ?? Who knows! tony@CIC, cksurfdude, sirchunksalot and 2 others 5 Quote Modern Bag: G410 LST 10.5*, Hzrdus Smoke RDX 6.5 Flex; 915F 3w, Diamana S+ 70 S flex; Snake Eyes 18* 2h, 23* 4h & 27* 5h; JPX 900 Forged 6 - PW, PX LZ 6.0; Edison 2.0 49*, 53*, 57* KBS Tour 120 S; Heppler Fetch; Ball - MTB-X; Bag - Jones MyGolfSpy Edition! I might have to get one bent and see how it works out. I've got a couple extra wedges that I could try with and see how it works before committing it to my gamers. It'd be worth the experiment. cksurfdude and Shapotomous
cnosil
practiced distance wedges today. Had a lesson this afternoon to try and solve some of the problems I have been having. While I like online lessons, sometimes having a live lesson is great. Made some changes to my swing and at least during the lesson I was hitting the ball better. Need to work on turning the body on the backswing..... for both wedge play and full swing. cksurfdude, Kenny B, Nolan220 and 2 others 5 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: TS3 15* w/Project X Hzardous Smoke Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/:Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: Sacks Parente MC 3 Stripe Backup Putters: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W, TM-180 Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017
LeftyMatt89
Practiced hitting controlled fades with my irons and driver today on the range. Also spent a decent amount of time rolling 5 foot putts and made sure I made 50 before heading home. dlow206
Working on permanently getting rid of the OTT move. Much better, but still a lot of work to do to get the new move to stick, plus a bunch of stuff to still improve on. Do you see yourself over drawing the ball at all? Good club plane. Oh, this was specifically a drill by my instructor, to close my stance and feel an inside swing. i actually have the tendency to have my feet to open normally Kenny B, cksurfdude, Shapotomous and 2 others 5 Quote Follow my golf journey to break into the 80s Tester for the Titleist TSi Driver Spring 2020 MGS Tester for the Fujikura Motore X Shaft Updated 07/15/2022 Driver: Rogue St Max LS - Autoflex Fairway Woods: Rogue Max St 3HL and 7 Wood Irons: JPX 921 Hot Metal 5 to AW - Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Stiff parallel tip Wedges: Glide 4.0 54 and 58 Putter: PLD Custom Kushin
Shapotomous
Thought I might get to play 9 this afternoon but it was hot tub maintenance day to empty, clean and refill it for the winter and I needed to be around while it was filling back up....so I had more wedge practice today...45 yards with the 57*, about 80 shots. Then I putted for about 1/2 hour as it finished filling up. The water temp is 62 right now if anybody wants to jump in!!!
