Went to the sim today to test out these bad boys head to head:

I will be doing a little review at some point as I use the RDX but I don't think there is even a question at this point. I had 40 swings on both shafts (sets of 5) today and if the numbers didn't speak for themselves the feel did.

This was my averages over the sets and today was not a very fast Swing Speed day whatsoever and the hulk felt like a 3 inch dowel while the RDX was extremely smooth, with substantially less spin. Will cover in a review down the road but I never get below 3k spin and I did a few times today.

Also figured out what setting I should be on with the titleist adapter and that is A2. my club face was varying between 1 degree open to 1 degree closed on average which I was very happy with. Was also very happy with my path today which as usual was out to in but was much closer to a straight path consistently. I don't typically see close to a straight path consistently

just dropped my RDX blue off at the shop today to be tipped and gripped

great initial testing. you have me excited to hit mine.

Something is a little odd on the numbers but feel alone was everything I was hoping for, the word magical is coming to mind 😂. Good luck! What grip ya going with I double wrapped a lamkin sonar and it felt great I’m thinking double wrap is going into some clubs on the next regrip.

I’ll have to look next time I don’t think that was on this sim but I’m negative for sure just don’t know how negative now.

I definitely have not unlocked my distance potential and this was a slow day (usually around 115) I NEVER get spin below 3k no matter what head it seems anyway

Without more speed,  If you can get positive you can probably lower the spin and gain 20+ yards of carry.    We are both in the same boat with this issue.

It’s tough to break! That’s the goal though. I’m better than I was this time last year

It is definitely a difficult change.   I am fortunate I have opportunities to get on a GC Quad and get AoA feedback.  I had gotten myself hitting up on the ball, but have reverted back to hitting down ( usually about 1 degree) and which also causes me to hit everything really high on the face.

Can’t wait to see how you compare those 4 shafts. Strictly going against the green it was a massive difference. I’m glad I had an off day because that’s the reason I got it, for my off days

honestly it almost looks like you had some misreads on your data.

the big takeaway is the lower spin, which is awesome. like you and @cnosili struggle big time with driver spin.

I’d realllllly prefer if @Lacassem didn’t gain 20+ yards of carry.  I’m barely keeping up as is.  😂

We saw some flashes of it from him this summer though... I think his long driver was 346, and it wasn’t really all that windy, and only slightly downhill.  My ball was good 60 yards behind him, to the point I almost didn’t find it.  We’re usually side by side! Haha

Nice crisp 41º sunny day, but couldn't get to the course before 1pm.  So, my wife and I played a practice round for 11 holes before we caught up with 3 very slow foursomes.  The 11th hole green is near the parking lot so it was a good place to quit.

My wife wanted to play from the senior (White) tees, so I did too just to make it easy for us.  I had some good holes and bad holes and would have shot basically the same score as I shoot from the Blue tees.  I was in some unfamiliar territory for 2nd shots, so I had to use different clubs which is a nice change... didn't hit them much better, but it was still a nice change.

I haven't been to the course since Sunday because of the snow, but I did have good speed control on my putts with no warmup.  I also chipped in for birdie on #6 from 10 feet off the green to a close pin with the green running away from me.  I've had that shot so many times, and I never seem to get it right!

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Had probably my best range session of the winter today. Feels good to see progress from all of the practice, especially with the longer clubs.

The purpose of going today was to test my new Sub70/MMT combo, but I also got to swing my new-to-me Callaway Mavrik since it showed up yesterday afternoon. I figured I'd have a shootout with the SpeedZone Xtreme, but one or two more range sessions like today and the Mavrik might just blow the SZX out of the water. Below is 33 shots worth of data, second row are maximum numbers for that stat:

Ball Speed (mph) Club Speed (mph) Smash Carry Distance (yds) Launch Angle V  Spin (rpm) Height (ft) Time (s)
158 112 1.41 260.8 12.6 2639 105 6.9
164.3 117.4 1.45 272.7

In all fairness to the SZX, the Mavrik is 1.25" longer. But I saw no decrease in accuracy and over 33 shots my impact pattern was pretty solid (certainly just as solid as the shorter driver):

IMG_30012021_121249_(1280_x_960_pixel).jpg.f460a2c77fe7c5be568a67866afd8ebd.jpg

A few not great ones, but overall very consistent.

With the longer driver I saw new personal bests on the Mevo in ball speed (average and max), club head speed (average and max - 117.4!) and carry (272.7).

The Aldila Rogue White 130 MSI is a fantastic shaft. Much better feeling than the 110 Silver in the SZX, and it launched higher and with less spin. I thought it felt more stable through the swing and much smoother through impact, even though I went up to x-stiff. I also found the Mavrik/Rogue White combination to favor a slight draw, and I never hit draws with my driver.

I wish I could get somewhere to hit real balls at normal temperatures with a quality launch monitor, but I'm going to be waiting for spring at this point!

I had to work today, but came home and grabbed the clubs to head out to the range. I bought a HZRDUS Smoke Black shaft I was chomping at the bit to try out and my first impressions are good. While still not having the most consistent pattern, I saw a tightening of my strike pattern along the face. 20210130_165934-01.jpeg.b1c60d1984b69406d60c42c2cc182151.jpeg20210130_170813-01.jpeg.3811951b6dc048242a27d8251e58e429.jpeg

Ignore the little guy at the bottom of the first photo, I was using 3 1/4 inch tees and thought I had another in my jacket pocket. Nope...It was a 2 3/4 I had left in after my last round.

I hit a couple of duck hooks, but other than that I saw some good results and didn't lose a single shot out to the right.

Wedges and irons are coming along nicely after all the practice with the Spornia net. I stl need to work on alignment. Cough...left miss...Cough. I did shank a couple, I got sloppy and let my left arm become disconnected, something else the net has helped me work on.

Great day at the range, even with cooler temps and being up since 3:30.

I'm pretty happy not seeing them all over the face and having shots going to the extremes of the toe and heel. Hopefully with a little more work I can start finding the center of the face a little more often.

I will say two things about the HZRDUS Smoke.

1. It's definitely lower launch than the Evenflow Green I have been using which will help as my course gets windy at times and always seems to be blowing toward me.

2. I never, ever thought a shaft could make the Epic Flash Sub Zero sound worse, but it did. I can only describe it as adding a loud ting.

It looks like you might have found a new driver in the Mavrik, those ball and clubhead speed numbers are insane! The difference between the two clubs in your hand is something else. Keep it up Cody!

It looks like you might have found a new driver in the Mavrik, those ball and clubhead speed numbers are insane! The difference between the two clubs in your hand is something else. Keep it up Cody!

Both you and @edingc strikes are looking really good. Can’t complain about the steady center area! Nice work

Thankfully, Callaway drastically improved the sound in the Mavrik line. Really pleasant sound.

The Black sounds like an intriguing shaft!

no, though i’m sure it’s playing a pretty big part.  i’ve pretty much eliminated my bad heel side miss, but i don’t know specifically where i’m making contact

i’ve got a lesson with my coach on monday, so i’ll ask to slap the face dots on and see what’s happening with strike location.

You can always use a can of foot spray, or true club face spray to see the ball mark to give you the feedback. I have even seen club face clear covers that also give you the same info but are a bit more expensive. Just something for quick feedback that could be useful

Smart ball comes in today. Going to try to use it a couple times a week with whiffles and range balls.

dedicating myself to getting sequences right and flexibility. Stretch every morning followed by planemate wedge protocols. Going to do a couple weeks of the first four protocols daily to entrain sequence and pivot, then will move on. Same goes with the smart ball but with actually hitting whiffles or range balls.

A lot of work recently has been to keep my hands quiet and relaxed all across the board - full swing, chipping and putting.

If I get too active in my hands during a full swing, I have a tendency to either pull the clubhead inside or, more likely as is my overcorrection, to push my hands outside on the takeaway. With chipping, too active of hands prevents me from using my rotation to hit the ball and I struggle with sticking the club into the ground behind the ball or hitting it really thin. And with putting, my hands being active leads to poor face control.

Additionally, still working on getting better rotation into my rear hip. If I do it right, my path is nicely zeroed out or a bit to the right. Poor rotation leads to a more left path and with my longer clubs leads to lots of pulls and pull hooks.

I sent this screen cap to my coach on Saturday and he really liked the progress with the rotation:

Working hard on getting rid of the inside takeaway. It helps me to understand where my hands should be at the top and how my wrist should be angled, etc. And then working backwards from there.

Finally made a breakthrough in what my brain needs to think for my body not to take the club inside on the takeaway. Had gotten instruction on this from my instructor and i could replicate a more vertical takeaway on some swings, but had a hard time getting it to stick. Drills only helped a bit, i really needed to think about what i personally need to think/feel to fix my takeaway.

I finally figured out what that thought is and it will probably will not make any sense to anyone else except myself. I can't think about swinging my arms or doing something with my left arm, right arm, body, etc. My thought is that between my hands and arms, there is sort of a triangle formed, let's call that point A. To make the proper takeaway and get to left arm parallel, i need to think about moving the triangle in the most efficient manner from point A to point B at left arm parallel while keeping the triangle. I am sure that this probably will not work for anyone else but me...

I kid I kid, glad ya found something that works for you. It’s all in how you are able to understand. @B.Bostonexplains crap to me all the time but until it clicks for me it doesn’t matter how he explains it lol (chipping and being too quick of a tempo was the most recent for me)

Yeah, the hard part for me was I understood what i was supposed to do, but my brain just couldn't translate it to doing the right thing consistently. That's why there are so many different drills, feels, etc. that are trying to get you to do something similar.
