Spent some time with my swing coach working on short shots.  Working on better rotation and balance with a few drills.

Got home from work without a lot of time before daylight runs out and supper is ready. I took the Divot Board out and worked more on the 60-60-100 drill. I saw mostly good results, with a few swings that had me scratching my head. I'm still trying to get used to the focus on the dot on the board without a ball, but I figure that'll come with practice.

Had my first ever lesson today... so I’ve been setting up with the club face 10 degrees open, essentially turning every club into two club lofts higher... which explains my massive height and distance control issue with irons. Just getting the club square at address added about 29 yards and got my trajectory so much better! It’s crazy how such a little thing can make a huge difference!

Extremely important!!  I tend to get a little lax in my rotation, and bad things happen!

I'm just the opposite.  I set up more square than your bottom pic, and I could use more height.  I have tried setting up like your top pic, and I have mixed results.  It's OK if I rotate hard in the downswing; sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.  When I don't... it's bad!

Similar to a few if you guys, I've been working most of the off season to improve my rotation and eliminate my early extension. Have been doing the wall drill at home quite a bit, and at the range basically I'll go through half a bucket with waist-to-waist swings, feeling like my right pocket "punches" toward 11 o'clock (noon being target). Then I'll take that feel up to full swings for most of the rest of the bucket, save for ~5 normal driver swings and ~5 fast-as-I-can driver swings.

Yesterday was a good day! I'm liking where I'm at so far. I'll probably continue to work on this in the background, but as the weather warms up I'll be shifting my range time to focus more on aim and target.

Isn’t it so uncomfortable to have the face opposite of what you’ve been doing? I couldn’t believe something so small made that big a difference! For me with this change I felt like I didn’t have to rotate as hard to get distance.

@B.Boston - That 60/60/100 thought is magic. Especially with short game.

It's sunny and in the 40s now, and enough snow has melted that I have a few grassy areas I can chip to from the patio and my little hitting mat. Working with the 60/60/100 thought, and having a feel of maintaining my spine angle through impact is working wonders. For me, the feel of maintaining the spine angle keeps my head from moving forward on the downswing. It's such a weird feeling but for the first time ever I'm actually able to pitch the ball and get some height without feeling like I have to lay the face open.

I'm curious to see what the combination of these two thoughts does at the range with full swings. My miss is low and left when my head starts to work forward. Something tells me the flight might be completely different if I get this right.

That’s awesome! I can’t wait to get some full swings in Friday using that drill. It’s felt good with slow-no indoor swings. Seems to naturally get me to turn my hips more, but real swings with balls will hopefully show some consistency on strike, and maybe a little more speed.

Speaking of that drill, I was able to come home from work today and spend about 45 minutes hitting into the net working on this. When I first did the drill, I had an epiphany: I have been rotating and allowing my sternum to get behind the ball in the backswing. I worked on the thought of keeping the sternum stationary during the swing. I started seeing some good results along with some inconsistent ones. 20210303_173822-01.jpeg.2246da257e91bba835735a22d9038854.jpeg

I had a few that looked like fried eggs and actually topped one or two. I made an adjustment and tried my best to take my arms out of the swing and let the body do the work. That's when I started seeing patterns like above more often. I was also seeing better weight shift that way. This is going to be my focus going forward. 2021 is the year that I'm focusing on becoming a better iron player and focus on crisper, cleaner contact.

It's showing a bit of wear, I have a couple of the sequins that are bent but nothing too bad. The good thing is, replacement pads are available.

Working on rotation. Felt like I was exaggerating my hip depth in the backswing and felt super far away from the ball. So far away that I thought I would miss the ball or hit it way off the toe. In the video though, don't think I am actually getting farther from the ball, just not getting closer to the ball in the backswing like I tend to do.

I've looked at the pad and noticed it should be easy to replace by pushing down on the plastic casing and pulling up on the pad. I haven't seen anything that @GolfSpy MPR did about replacing.

Also, @B.Boston asked about wear and I thought I'd get a photo of what mine looks like now. 20210303_191418-01.jpeg.bdc0fcddab65a3d93ebae5c35c6d4c87.jpeg

Keep in mind, this is probably between 400-600 shots, I've got a problem and am obsessed with grooving ball first contact. I think it's still got a lot of life left in it before needing to be replaced.

This is good stuff. Yea I wasn’t sure if one of the threads he discussed if. I’m sure it’s fairly simple. This thing was genius whenever designed it

Awesome! I was worried since it’s basically a bedazzled ball target that it wouldn’t handle my *steepish* iron swing. If it can handle 400-600 and look like that I think it will be good!

Thanks, getting my lower body to work correctly is going to continue to be a challenge. Rotation is getting better and early extension is less obvious than before, but still needs a lot of work.

Thanks, getting my lower body to work correctly is going to continue to be a challenge. Rotation is getting better and early extension is less obvious than before, but still needs a lot of work.

You and @edingcare two guys that have some great progress videos that I have enjoyed thoroughly.  Keep crushing it 👊

Awesome! I was worried since it’s basically a bedazzled ball target that it wouldn’t handle my *steepish* iron swing. If it can handle 400-600 and look like that I think it will be good!

getting closer and closer to the buy button. Good thing the snow is melting. It might actually save some grass this year

I'm fairly shallow with my irons, but have chunked the living daylights out of this thing once or a couple hundred times. I'm embarrassed to take pictures of those, though.

This is good stuff. Yea I wasn’t sure if one of the threads he discussed if. I’m sure it’s fairly simple. This thing was genius whenever designed it

Yep, I haven't gotten close to needing to replace the surface yet. Mine looks worse than @sirchunksalot, but still clearly indicates the impact.

Isn’t it so uncomfortable to have the face opposite of what you’ve been doing? I couldn’t believe something so small made that big a difference! For me with this change I felt like I didn’t have to rotate as hard to get distance.

Yes it is...  If I don't rotate enough, it's s#@nk city!!

I haven't been to the practice area other than the range for quite awhile and it shows when playing.  Today I decided to spend an hour or so just on pitches and chips.  Pitching green closed!!!  😡  Maintenance crews were doing some digging (sprinkler work I guess) by the green, and they didn't want any errant balls while they were working.

So, I spent the time practicing chips with my 60º LW and 49º GW on the putting green.  We still don't have holes in the putting green, so I used 2 tees about a hole-width apart.  I used to only chip with my LW and was reasonably good at it, but I have to practice contact a lot or I lose the feel and mishit a lot of balls.  That's what I've been doing on the course lately.  No practice; no good shots.

@cnosil shamed me into trying less-lofted clubs for chipping and I've been practicing with my GW.  I'm better at it than I was several months ago, but a ball can still get away from me every now and then.  Overall, I'm probably a little more consistent distance-wise with my GW, but misses with either club are not horrible.  At my course I really don't need any less-lofted club for chips.  After an hour I started to feel a rhythm to my swing that I haven't had lately on the course.  I even managed a few good flop shots.  I need to do this more often!!

Going for a “practice round” at a short par 69 course in Zephyrhills with some buds. It’s 4,467 yards from White tees and is fun to play. Very narrow fairways makes for target practice. It’s 3 strokes lighter than my Hcap for my home course.

One of my buddies I play with only practices chipping and putting, he says it’s the first thing to go and it the most important part of the game... he’s also a plus handicap and lead the NCAA in scoring average in college soooo maybe it’s not a great comparison... but still good on you for doing the mundane stuff.
I turn it into a game and it’s more fun... like keeping score. I pick a hole or two to chip to. Make par 18 and play “9” holes every hole is a par 2. Keep a record of your scores and see how it gets better. Makes it way more fun to practice!
