Yep, they are significantly different putters even through they are both face balanced (I am assuming you don’t have the slant neck version of the toulon)

Correct, went face balanced. Very curious to see how this experiment plays out.

Day to day can change if ya haven’t been swinging much. I trust mine pretty good. Driving range is most accurate I find since it’s the same distance away every time (ball to the radar)

watch the baseball mode be slower 🤦‍♂️

Honestly, maybe I’m having a little too much opportunity to practice this early in the season.

I love practicing but get in my head, and inadvertently make my goal to be perfect on every swing. On course I’d likely be very happy with most of my shots, but on the range it’s a different deal sometimes. Oh well. Something I need to work on!

I have had a few so-so buckets working on things from my last lesson and keep falling into some bad habits. I’m making progress in some areas, but have been overall a bit frustrated. Then I watch video and see old habits, like how I let my hands work in too close to my body at address:

tooclose.jpg.4684424f7aeec5e04a5be230afc7a016.jpg

I’m getting better at not throwing my upper body at the ball. My hip rotation is improving. But when I get too close to the ball, I come back too inside and it sets off a bad chain of events later on in the downswing.

Yeah man, I’m the same way. What’s helped me is focusing on set up and tempo. I’ve avoided all filming this early season and my ball striking has been the best ever. I think chasing the perfect “swing” is the downfall of a lot of people, instead of focusing on what the ball does. Just my 2 cents. But there’s a lot of clinical evidence to support the external focus training vs internal focus

Got to the range today. Was windy as hell right into the face but was warm so wasn’t too bad.
Worked on the lower end of the bag with full shot and played with choking up and 3/4 1/2 swings which I have never really done before. Was very pleased with the results and was making great contact. Struggled a little with the top end of the bag 4/5 irons but worked it out with ball positioning.

swapped over to the driver and it felt great. Had 3 closer to the heel and then started hitting center (needed to setup a little closer I was reaching to much. The .5” shaft length makes a difference) 7C140AAB-91CB-4AA8-87F1-B1A8977021A6.jpeg.0b9eeadfb0264639e06990b2ae6afe44.jpeg

Finished up with wedges and the work over the winter has payed off went through the 4 wedges with multiple choking down setups and again different backswings and didn’t have any hosel rockets. Great flight and was hitting my marks. Very promising next up need to hit a practice green. Not sure how high on the face these should be but they were going where I wanted so that’s all that matters17F5EA27-D220-4934-A2E0-22A80042F799.jpeg.1ee204fa20cbd92abcd0756d13d0304e.jpeg

I think @twyatt700nailed it. As much as you want to focus on what you’re doing and you don’t want to get to bad habits have you thought about not filming or not taking pictures for a bit and just seeing how your contact/ball flight and overall results are? Even for a little bit of the beginning of the year. Regardless like I’ve said before your transition over the past few months is pretty incredible and even the pros falter occasionally don’t beat yourself up to much

You're both right, and that's why I've trimmed down video to only a handful of swings per session. Mostly just to check grip and setup, which is at the recommendation of my instructor. Always try to pull a few good things out as well. Had a couple great Super Hybrids from the tee today and that made my session! Have made a ton of good progress in the last month or so! Ready for warmer weather to truly set in so I can get out on the course more regularly.

Well said. When I start to get into my own head and things got south for me, it usually ends up being setup and tempo that get it all back.

I get weird readings with the swing speed radars. It will say my driver swing speed is like 65 mph... makes no sense

I've been trying to figure that one out for a bit. I know sometimes the radar won't record a swing if you swing too high. I think it just likes throwing out the 60 mph swing.

On that note, I restarted SuperSpeed training yesterday. I was hoping to get some in tomorrow, but rain. I did see positive first day numbers, though. 20210329_182457-01.jpeg.96472f60fce999babd3b22a87d23f4aa.jpeg

That's just 3 mph below my personal best. I also hit 114 with the next stick and 105 with the heaviest. Your post the other day about lighter grip pressure really helped to remind me not to try the death grip during my training.

my fastest swings are always when I feel no tension in my wrists at all.  It actually can cause me to go past parallel with the superspeed sticks.  I've really tried to mimic that feeling hitting balls, but its soooo hard to trust that the clubface is going to be remotely square... but most of the time it's actually pretty good!

Nice speeds man.  keep it going!

Got to Hattiesburg, MS, just after the rain and was able to play 9 holes. First time hitting the new irons, so I dropped a ton of balls to practice approaches. They are very forgiving, and the distances were really consistent, so I was pretty happy. I putted well, and the chipping was pretty good, so overall it was nice to get out and just swing without keeping score.

Thank you, Bryan! I'm hoping to at least get the first six weeks in before my work schedule gets super crazy after shutdown. I need to add at least 5-8 mph. I realize I need shorter shots into the green if I'm going to score well and lower my handicap. I'm kicking myself for not finishing up the training I started last year during lockdown.

I killed some time at Oregon's candy store "Fiddler's Green" where they have an outdoor range for hitting demo clubs.  I chose an Epic Speed, Epic Speed Max, Titleist TS1, and Cobra Rad, all with similar shafts and hit the range for a few buckets of balls.  While hitting, I focused, not only on the club testing but,  maintaining my angles through impact.  I tend to have a bad habit of coming out of the angle with more level shoulders and hitting a fade to wicked slice.  So, staying down I was able to hit some really decent drives.  Of course, the balls had been hit a gazillion times and they're restricted flight balls to boot, but I was able to see the ball flights.  Of the four clubs, I liked the Speed Max and the Cobra better than the Titleist and the Epic Speed.

Worked on the step drill today to try to make sure I am getting to my front at impact. Really good results with the divot board. Brought the feel to planemate work and it told me right away I was flipping. Worked on rotation and wall la. Will have to see how it translates to the course in ten days or so. Will try to try to overdue that feel.

Headed to the range after the long trip to SoCal.  Hope my problems are related to sitting in the car and not my time with Monte.  I know what I have to do, but it's so hard to do it with a dang ball staring at me.  It was ugly!!  Need more time on the range ...

The course had punched all of the greens while I was gone.  They were blowing all of the plugs (and balls!) off the pitching green while I was on the range...

IMG_1386.jpeg.410b9cb3b4d56f431c398520dc78aca9.jpeg

The good news is that since the practice putting green was also punched, no one spent any time practicing before they teed off.  The green was empty.  So I spent an hour practicing chips/pitches with my 60º.  With people on the green I can't use the entire green for long shots.  Practiced low/med/high shots picking my spot to land the ball.  I don't use the pitching green for shots less than 25 yards because it's fairly small and the speed is much slower than the greens on the course.  The putting green is a better choice to see how the ball rolls out.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Took the 56* Tiger Grind out with the dude for a run and hit a bunch of different shots.  Open face, full swing and pitches just to get the feel and see how I can make it work for me.

One thing that I never had the confidence to do was open the face of a higher bounce 56* wedge.  The heel relief is so good on this thing it's silly.

First impressions were a very easy to hit wedge and a much more solid feel at impact.  The previous generation milled grind wedge felt very tinny at impact, this one doesn't even fall in the same ballpark.

So far, so good.

Lately been going through a swing change which surprisingly did not take a long time to take hold and now I am hitting great driver shots. Noticed I was swaying a lot in my backswing and focused on rotation.

2009368160_Screenshot_20210402-135206_V1Golf.jpg.6ba4f652d06566f2424242eb4a3f19b2.jpg1829301028_Screenshot_20210308-210120_V1Golf.jpg.58e7df0bec32b13734616df510ef68fe.jpg

Left video is where I first started noticing the sway. To be honest, I knew I was swaying in the past but kind of forgot about it. I draw the lines at address to see how much my body has moved off the initial starting line. The white line is centered on my spine at address. The right video is about a week or so in after trying to control the sway. Still moving off but my trail leg is noticeably different at the top of my backswing.

This is after a few weeks of focusing on rotation. Not a full swing but a slow motion practice swing to get into the right position. This is where I want to be in the full swing.

1580560109_Screenshot_20210313-170156_V1Golf.jpg.0b779c620fba85f9d6ba9aff8e0e56fb.jpg

An actual full swing. Noticeably not moving as much off my center line as the white line is centered more on my spine. My trail leg has not moved closer to the red line. You see less of my belt buckle as I am actually rotating and not swaying. Also a bonus I got with the rotation is my lead shoulder is pointed more down at the ball. In the first picture it almost looks like I am standing straight up. I am getting much more consistent contact. Now I am focusing on keeping that left arm straight through the swing as I noticed I get more speed and higher smash when I focus on that in the swing. The green line in the last photo is where I see my shaft in a slow motion practice swing. The actual swing makes me want to swing "harder" so I always end up bending that trail arm!

They redid our back range and it opened yesterday. I was able to drop by and try it out between a burial at sea (ash scattering) and heading into church for this evening’s service.

It’s beautiful. New sod, four times the practice area, enhanced short game area also.

Worked on my new wedges especially pitching and flighting full shots down as happing between my longest iron (6) and 9 wood. That’s a big issue - I knew that it was but now I have proof. I carry 8 iron 135, 7 148, 6, 153, 9 wood 170 - oops. :(

I will practice more with the 6 iron over the next few weeks but we may see a hybrid coming back to that spot, soon. :)

My wife and I were getting out this evening to run around and just get out of the house, so I talked her in to going to the range.

The session started out well as I was hitting chip shots to a stake 25 yards out and seeing good distance control. I moved on to 50 yard shots and the shanks decided to show up. I was able to finally get them under control after telling myself to rotate and not to flail at the ball with my arms.

I started working on irons, I was planning to try to intentionally hit different locations on the face, but here came the shanks again. So I went to a gate drill and hit the ball better.

20210403_151956-01.jpeg.0e274ad29eadfdb6f74b534425f165e2.jpeg

I was hitting some bad shots when I told my wife, "I know what I'm doing wrong". My weight shift became sloppy and I could feel my weight on my right heel. I've mentioned a lot in trying to imagine myself slinging the club down the range and that promotes me shifting to my lead side. I also realized in standing over the ball way too long and need to work on a trigger to start my swing sooner.

My driver and fairways were good, so I was pretty pleased with that. I have an 11:50 tee time tomorrow and how I can see some good results on the course.

A friend of mine stands over the ball a looong time.  I've watched him on the range, but have never played with him; he's a +2.  I asked him what he's doing standing over the ball so long (he hits great shots).  He said that he only started his swing when his mind was absolutely clear of ANY thoughts.  I honestly don't think that's possible for me!!  🤪
