Popular Post GolfSpy BOS
Today was the last day of Jackson’s golf camp so and I was able to get a range session in while they were off at the other end of the range doing a putting competition. Once again I went through a pretty good warm up with chips/pitches/wedges and some irons shots to make sure I felt good and loose before making my way up to driver. I’m starting to feel the differences between the Ventus and Motore X F3 and today was a good example. I was coming across everything a little bit (I’ll blame the fact that I was at the right edge of the range hitting to the left back of the range to make sure I didn’t hit into the kids at the putting green on the back right of the range’s short game area (the main putting green is still closed for repair). BUT the Ventus was the clear winner today. I was just feeling the club better with it, and I was finding the center! I set myself up to hit 3 consecutive shots each with the Ventus and then the Motore X. My aim was for the last tall pine in the range on the left hand side, with the Ventus I hit all three just to the right, which would have easily been in the fairway. Two gentle fades and one push draw all within a good landing area. Very pleased! The Motore X drives after were not nearly as good today. Blocked them out right, and even had a few bad swings in there. I’ll shoulder that blame as they were bad swings, but the Motore X may be a bit too active feeling. If I’m in a groove like I was on Wednesday it was awesome and felt effortless to get some speed out of it. But if I’m off a touch I think the extra stability in the Ventus was helping today. More testing to come there, I’d love to get some real numbers on them. It seemed today that I was getting more launch out of the Motore X, but that might have been from a more open face. I am sure that there are lots of approaches and thoughts, but Mark Crossfield made a video the resonated with me and helped stop me from trying to cock the wrists too much. I think it is a great visual on setting the wrists. I went to the range today after watching this, and it made a huge difference! I had a lot cleaner contact, and a lot straighter shots. Just that feeling of flat lead wrist really helped. Thank you for that! I've attended two of Monte's clinics and it's always a learning experience. I think he had a clinic scheduled for London this summer, but it got canceled. Very reasonably priced for the information they contain. Popular Post sirchunksalot
I feel you @revkev, I went to the range today and felt like I was in a sauna. I'm not comparing Southeast Tennessee heat (86 with 70% humidity) to what you guys in Florida have to deal with. I probably had the best range session I've had in a while. I started out with some short wedges to differing targets to loosen up. Other than a duff or two, I was making good contact. I also used that as practice for working on not bringing the club too far inside by focusing on keeping my palm facing the ground a bit longer. I strayed from Monte and watched a Chris Ryan video before bed last night on this and the thought resonated with me. It worked wonders for getting an earlier wrist set when I paired it with what I've been working on with NTC. Hit my irons a lot better today and also striped 5 fairway woods in a row. Progress! The driver is coming along nicely, I'm still tending to hit a little high on the face, but adjusted tee height and saw better results. I worked on technique through about two thirds of the bucket and finished off playing different holes on the course. Hopefully it'll pay off next weekend when I have a round booked with a buddy from work. Shapotomous
I thought I'd be reporting back in the how'd you play thread but the thunderstorms had me change my plans. I took the Mevo to the range at the course and took data on a few clubs. I needed to work on consistently compressing the ball and not have it slide up the face losing yardage and missing slightly right. I got that worked out and started paying attention to the Mevo data on the good hits. I admit I was skeptical on the yardages thinking they were a little short when I'd flush an 8i and the result was 142 or 144. I'd feel the beautiful schmush off the Mizzy clubface and think that was 160!! Only to hear the ball speed and look at the phone to see the 14x number. These were not range balls either but a box of decent precepts & callaway finds I brought from home. I thought this thing must be off a bit so I'll head out on a couple holes since the course was mostly empty on the front and laser a couple spots and see what I get. REALITY is what I got!! Lasered 140 on two different holes facing opposite directions set up the Mevo and hit 4 balls....two Snell MTB-X and two Prov1's and flushed 3 of 4 at each location and was hole high on the green with those shots matching the yardage reported by the Mevo. Both misses on the 4th was the same, a pull that was also hole high but left about 30'. So no difference in the balls for distance, spin, height, feel or results. I then went to a par 3 and lasered 150 and hit 4 more with the 8 but really going after it. I hit 2 pulls and 2 pushes and the most I got out of it was about 147 according to the Mevo and the strained feeling in my lower back that I dread. For self preservation I dialed back to my 85% swing and went to another hole with the 5i lasered at 185......and was ~ 12 yards short per the Mevo data and where the balls landed.....the 5i is my 170 club apparently. I was going to do some more with the hybrids but the thunder and lightning was moving in and I headed for the parking lot. The verdict is in.....At my age and the shape I'm in.....I am a 140 yard 8 iron player....on a good day when its 90* and I am really loose. Maybe now that I have confessed it'll be easier to live with the reality! Reesedw
Went to the range yesterday with the Granddaughter, We had a great time. I struggled for the first 15-20 balls.. WITH a 9 iron, and a wedge.. I was slicing, a 9 iron.. WTH.. Things just felt off. I helped the GD and explained how compressing the ball pops it up in the air.. then stepped back in 1st ball stripped it.. 2nd ball smoked.. It felt good.. broke out the driver and ripped one over the flag at 235 on the fly so after a few more, worked my way through the bag flushing most of the club with a few mishits thrown in to keep me focused. But the whole afternoon was great, got to spend time with my Gd and hit some balls. what more could I ask for.. GolfSpy BOS
Had a good range session yesterday. Was back at my usual driving range which I prefer since I can see where the ball lands and carry my balls nearly to the fence at the end of the range. Did my normal wamup through the bag and then had another pretty focused session on driving. The Motore X vs Ventus testing is getting really interesting for me now. I'm pretty much dialed in on settings. Both -1* and Neutral lie (I will probably play around with the draw setting another time). Ventus has the weight in heel, Motore X has the weight in the toe (makes sense to me based on the added stability of Velocore). I was swinging fast today (for me!) I had exactly 1 driver swing below 110. (108 with Ventus) and several up over 114 on the swing speed radar. I'm nearing the point where I feel confident in saying the Motore X is about 2MPH faster on the radar than the Ventus. Part of this is going to be the 1/2 inch longer length, but I have been gripping down a touch on that one, so I think it's mainly due to the shafts profile. But what good is that if it doesn't lead to more ball speed and distance right? It seems like Motore X may be a few yards longer in carry, so as long as the spin is in check should lead to more total distance. I was carrying the ball further up the hill at the range than with the Ventus on average and even had a few that flew/one-hopped the fence! That's always been my goal so it was exciting to see (sorry driving range owner). I'll get a chance out on the course tomorrow and hopefully will see some of this work translate, or my back will be stiff and I'll hit weak cuts all day... but here's to hoping for a good day! I still need to get some real Ball speed/spin numbers on the two shafts, but the Motore X showed me enough at the range to at least earn a start tomorrow. One of the bombs from the day... I believe this was 114MPH swing speed per my radar. I believe this was 114MPH swing speed per my radar. I'm usually in the 108-111 range historically with the Speedzone/Ventus combo: What the guy didn’t know you were videoing!?! Nice shot! Get out there and hit some of those filthy bombs. On a side note on your video, I left the volume on the Bluetooth speaker in the bathroom and played the shot. It scared the daylights out of my wife.
