I’ve noticed center hits have a great meaty sound. It’s gets tinnier out on the perimeter, but that’s good for feedback and encourages me to hit in the middle. Hahaha

Went to the range, but saw a friend so I decided to play 9 with him. I’ve been trying to get my knuckles to turn down through impact, while turning the hips better. Did ok with that. My Mavrik SZ 4w showed-up just before I left for the course so I had a chance to hit it a couple times. Ugh, the grip was HORRIBLE. Put the R1 rangefinder into action, and I learned quickly I needed to have read the directions! 😂 Lastly, put my Cobra driver head on the extra Xphlexxx Busa Liquid 2 shaft I had that’s cut to play at 45.5. Put the 10g weight in the rear, and a 2g up front and it worked VERY well! I may like this combo a lot!!! Rained on the 8th hole so we didn’t finish, but it was nice to play with someone I hadn’t played with in years!

Finally, finally, after too long of trying on the driving range to get rid of an unwelcome hook, I took a lesson with a pro to take a look at my swing. My brother had a lesson with him before I did, so I hit some range balls in the next stall while I waited. Fifteen minutes in to my brother’s lesson, the pro looked at me and said, “I can see your issue—no worries, I can help you fix it.”

It feels really good to hear from someone about what’s going on with my swing. Can’t wait to get back to the range to work on it tomorrow, followed by a couple 18-hole games over the next week.

I had a really productive session this morning before work. Worked on my driver posture, I had my son film me at home hitting foam balls and I saw that I was really hunched over, almost like I was hitting an iron. I worked on standing a bit taller and feeling more like I was swinging around my body and it paid off almost immediately. Solid strikes, almost all with just a slight baby fade at the end. I did hit a couple of nasty slices earlier on but not stressed about those. Irons were solid and hit wedges to the 50 and 75 yard markers as well. Hoping to get out for 9 tomorrow after work, we'll see how the driver behaves!

Just had my first lesson ever today. Really enjoyed it, was great see my swing on video and compare feel vs real. Turned out my body was doing too much work and left hand not enough, and way too long of a backswing. Was a weird feeling for awhile but towards the end really started to get the hang of it. Excited to practice more with it and go back for some more help, especially with my wedges and chipping!

To berklybob and Ben_Howell good luck with your lessons and progress.  I will look forward to reading about it!!!

I've switched teachers and am going the video route for the first time.  I received my lesson on Monday and had plenty to work on without swinging a club.  My new teacher wants me working on three things, most importantly grip - getting the left hand more on top of the shaft - I've been working on this hard all week and even brought a club to work in order to practice some there.  Next is a posture tweak to get the weight more from my heels to the middle part of my feet.  Finally he wants me to try and initiate my swing with my core.  I've worked on that one in front of the mirror.

Those who have played with me know as do those who have seen one of the videos that I've posted of my swing in reviews that I have a slight Matthew Wolff move as I start my swing.  My teacher had nothing negative to say about that.  In fact he generally liked my swing and felt that my problems with consistency and shallowness would improve greatly with a better grip.

It's been a very busy week at work, a death, final wedding preparations for next week and Vacation Bible School with over  100 kids and COVID cases on the rise in our community - very, very busy but lots of fun with the kids.  So I finally got to the range for the first time this afternoon at 3:30 - 110 degree heat index at that time but a nice little sea breeze kicking in and some overcast on occasion making it feel better.

I'd love to say that I crushed shot after shot straight as an arrow.  What I did do after a few swings is start to hit very powerful, high draws with my 9 iron. I was aiming at a pin that's listed at 125 (I knew that it was a bit more based on where the tees were set)  I shot 77 on Sunday and the last shot I hit was a gripped down 9 iron from 118 that ended up 3 feet behind the pin.

Early on I hit some shots fat (a novelty for me of late) and then I settled in - my calibration was about 20 feet left of the pin but I hit lots of high booming shots that were flying past where the pin was.  So I measured it thinking I was wrong and it was more like 120 - shot it 4 times and it read 131 each time.  Granted I had the benefit of some help from the sea breeze but we are talking about me carrying 9 iron over 130 with ease.  Next I went with 7 iron towards a flag that was at 167.  Normally that would be 9 wood for me.  While I was short of it with the 7 iron, I switched to 6 and was reaching it with ease.  Driver was a bit of an issue at first because I lost some launch angle - I did check all 20 swings and my swing speed averaged 97 which is very high for me.

Wedges were a huge issue = huge enough that they came out the second I got home and the SCORS went in - I need familiarity and I also need something that I didn't s..... 10 times in a row on the range - went back to the 9 iron just to make sure and that fine - also snuck in some 7 woods - everything took a bit of getting used to but everything except wedge eventually came around pretty well.

On the things that my coach gave me to work on I'd say an excellent on the grip and fair on posture and core move.

Overall it was a successful first time out.  I will hit the range again Sunday before playing on Monday.  I've also had to change my set-up routine with the grip and posture change.

First time touching a club in about 3 weeks. Worked on two things today. Keeping right arm on top of left arm and pressure shift in backswing and transition. Used the drills from montes efficient swing to feel hip turn and let it be what causes the lead heel to come off the ground.

Afterwards gave about a 30 minute lesson with a gym buddy. Got his pull hook to be a small draw and getting the feeling a push draw with the top of his bag. Goal is to bring the left side miss more towards the middle. Worked on getting less bend in his right arm. Better connection with arms and chest and to actually turn his hips. Had him hitting gw about 140 yards and his pw was flying about 152 yards with less effort. The feeling didn’t translate as quickly into his driver but his hybrid and fw had more solid contact and had a 3-5 yard draw

Grip work to feel my swing better. Someone pointed out to me my hands are to far  apart. Working on keeping my right hand ring and middle finger aligned to my first knuckle and left thumb nail respectively. As well focusing on slots my left thumb in just past my right thumb pad. It all feels strange but my light swings feel way less handsy and I felt like I could swing more freely.

Been reading way too much on grip issues recently. Look down and sure enough I've got a pretty weak grip that probably isn't helping my typical block to the right. Worked on hitting some balls into a net just making sure to get my grip turned a bit more to neutral. It still feels a little strange, but did show some promising results.

Now I just have to get up the courage to actually step on the course and see how things go. Haven't been able to get out for a round recently due to work. How do people feel in general about executive courses? There is one nearby and I'm not sure I'm mentally/emotionally ready for a full course just yet. At the same time I need to do something other than practice.

Practicing my clubs  other than my driver for two days.  And suddenly I lost ability to hit driver today    I watched some MLB baseball today and some of the sluggers swing and that always helps me get back on track   Something to do with the tempo and how much the lean is on the back leg and taking a full swing that subconsciously sets in that helps improve my driver swing.

I was one of those grip guys. I needed to spend $75 to find out though. So there! 🙂

I hit chips and puts yesterday and then hit the range today after church before attending the Rays/Sox game - this Wander Franco guy is pretty dog gone good.  We got to see 4 of his 5 tools on display - I’d say he has a 6th, great baseball sense, also.

Back to golf - I am jettisoning trying to work on all 3 things that my teacher suggested - 2 is enough and once they are in I will work on number 3.

Its good that two of yours are setup things....you can quit thinking about them once you are ready for your core to start the backswing, then go thought free from there!

What'll really mess ya up is if you start thinking about take away hand position, backswing arm rotation, backswing length and downswing plane & wrist angles.......😱   🤣   I went through that phase and it's no fun telling yourself not to think about those things and all you can do then is think about them!

Been introducing few new things for my routine finding the low spot on the green and croutching down and starting me read from there when putting   This helps me read the correct line.  Then I can figure out the spot.
The other thing is when chipping I be standing far away from the side profile so I can see the pin and ball. This give me idea if the distance and the elevation to the pin

I then look at the lie   This will determine which wedge I use

Consistent irons usually the weakest part of my game.  I had a look at some videos I  made of my Iron swing at the end of the season when it was feeling great.   Notice that my left arm grip was stronger and I was able to make more of a “reflexively” full follow through

Hadnt touch a club in over 2 weeks die to a rib injury from a quad crash but today I felt good enough to head to the range to see how it really felt. Took out a few wedges and took some easy pitches until I foundI confirmed I wasnt going to drop to my knees in agony. Took about 20 easy swings and increased it to playing speed. No issues and even hit a few of my buds long irons with no issues.

Bucket at lunch trying to figure out how I went from hitting the ball great to miserable within about 24 hours. Ended up being a connection issue with my hands and arms getting behind me in the takeaway rather than syncing up with the turn. For me, a good feel is that my right (trail side) bicep is turning into my upper chest during the backswing. Gets me pivoting a lot better.

Once I started swinging better I went to doing some speed work trying to push my limits. Managed to crack 115 with the driver and 107 with my 4 hybrid while doing so. Hoping that by really going all out I'll see some increases in my cruising speeds.

Well @Lacassem… I actually put in some practice today believe it or not. My short game is not good, but everything except the wedges is top notch.  I was amazing the “crowd” with some stingers that even made me say wow.  I don’t think I can get any better consistent with this shot.

Tee marks from said stingers.

It was kind of funny,  there was a father / son practice session going on when I got there.  After about 6 shots, I heard the fad say, just do what that guy is doing.  Dad was playing a little game of “Whack CUSS” fill in that cuss with a f a vowel like u and the end of whack. The wooshes kept getting faster.  And he wasn’t hitting bad before he started trying to bomb them.  Swing your swing dude… 🤦🏼‍♂️

Hit range balls for first time in ten days. Swing coming along. Grip and takeaway seem better. Still over swinging my driver.  Ugh.

Just need to focus on my transition and shallowing out. Long work ahead.

... Maybe this will help mentally. Davis Love III said whenever he absolutely needed a big drive he slowed his swing down a little and made sure he had perfect center contact. He found that gave him his longest drives over slightly missing the center with a faster swing. I don't always heed his advice on normal drives because you know golf 🤪  but when I need a big drive like trying to reach a par 5 in 2, I always keep that thought in my mind.

While working on my swing trying to figure a good way to shallow at the top. Watched an Adam young video and talked about an outside takeaway can lead to a body response to shallow. I have it a go as I also struggle with my lead shoulder. Here are some comparison videos. I don’t want to go down a rabbit hole but wondered everyone’s thoughts. And yes, I did whack the garage door opener

Left wrist at the top looked strong and good in both.  I like the outside takeaway as an exaggerated move to help transition to a shallower inside path into impact.  It's a good feeling.

Got out to hit a bucket today.  It's only been about 9 days, but it felt like it had been 9 weeks since I swung a club.  Before I really felt like my swing was in tune and my timing was great, today just wasn't it......

Going to mark it as a one off and try and get back to the range tomorrow or maybe even play 9 holes.  On the positive, the weather has been absolutely beautiful.
