I recall a story about some Tour pro - he'd win a tournament without any warmup / practice so decided to do the same thing the next week .. where he did really poorly...

He said something to the effect of: "You don't own your swing, you only rent it!"

That's so true!  When I rent it, I get different clubs every time I play.  On Sunday, it think I got a Lefty set.  🥴

Had a team builder at top golf today so used it as a range session and a pressure session of people watching me. After a shaky start went well. A bit disappointed in their golf balls though. I hit several flush super hybrid that only carried 205. I know when I flush it they go 240+. Beggars can’t be choosers.

Funny but true - I've read the Top Golf balls are heavier, in part because they need to be super durable but also because they have the RFID chip inside them.

Kind of an ongoing practice session.  I have the net I just bought and the chipping net set up on the back yard.  Rather than kill time on Reddit or here when I take a break I've been walking outside and hitting about a dozen balls or chips at a time.  Kind of fun actually.  Obviously can't see trajectory, but have a generalized idea based on where I hit on the net.  One of the cooler things that I have noticed so far is how much more I can tell where I hit on the face and what the shaft is doing when I'm not distracted by seeing the shot.

It's not going to fully replace range time, but its going to be very good for contact drills and getting more practice in.  Contact & tempo have been solid today so far.  Going to break out the swing caddie here in a bit and see if it will give me any data with limited ball flight.

EDIT:  The answer to the swing caddie is yes to shorter irons, no to longer clubs.  Seems like it needs to see the ball for a bit longer with the longer clubs and I don't really want to move further back from the net.  Too many neighbors and windows about...

Been fighting that quite a bit too.  It's infuriating.  Right up there with missing a short putt.  I've got a line on why for me after taking a lot of video and catching a hosel rocket on film.  Figuring out how to catch myself in the process... thats another matter.

Well it is in your name, that's why I chunk it so much or at least that's what I'm going to blame. 😂

Have you tried hitting toe shots intentionally? It's a pretty good drill I picked up from Adam Young's content and it works pretty well to establish a feel. My most recent bout with Shan-King was cured after I realized that in an attempt to get the clubhead outside my hands and in doing that I started taking my arms up and outside my body, becoming disconnected.

I wish you nothing but the best in whatever you do to rid yourself of these horrible shots.

Yessir. Think it got it figured out… stance got super closed again, creating a weird club path that leads with the ole Hozelrooski.

I do this crap every year.  It’s so annoying.  😂

That winter layoff you deal with every year can kill those short game feels. I know you're about to make a move to Oregon, but you need to eventually settle somewhere you can play year round.

I do love my back yard hitting net - it lets me get a club in my hand almost every single day - just 20 or so swings but it's very helpful.  It's showing on the course as I'm playing pretty well every time out even though I'm not playing even as much as weekly.

Maryland is pretty good.  I could have played every month, January and Feb were pretty soggy but I’m not scared of rain… guess that’s a good thing where I’m going.  Oregon I should be able to play all year, at least from what I’m seeing on the courses social platforms.

I was also getting a bit far from the ball, my wife actually pointed that out to me. Sure enough, I was about 4” further away than my normal set up.  Pretty weird.

There are many reasons why we do that, but many times it can be attributed to the first movement down in transition.  I'm no expert on how to fix it, but I used to be an expert on how to do it.  😂  (Remember, the definition of expert; an "ex" is a has-been and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure.

When I did that, my first movement down was with my upper body which got the club outside.  I corrected that when I followed Monte when he said that I needed to consciously start my arms down slightly before any body rotation.

BTW, I still do it on occasion, but it's rare and I know it's a result of this old body not getting loose before playing or when getting tired and sore late in a round.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Determined to figure the friggin' driver out and spent the majority of another large bucket being "that guy" that just whacks driver at the range.

Some good feels that resulted in better results, mostly just needing to really get further away from the ball at setup and outstretch my arms. I think I just get too jammed up and have no recourse other than to hang back, drop way inside and throw my hands out (hooks), fall forward while dropping inside (sniper duck hooks) or come over the top (straight pulls). Or worse, hang back and raise my hands and hit the 'ol banana ball two fairways over to the right. I have not found many fairways this season so far.

As my driver goes, my scores go, so hopefully I can keep chipping away at some better drives.

I've been neglecting putting recently so I spent time on that. I was consistently pushing everything to the right just a bit so I had to take a little break and walk away. Came back after a few minutes and realized that I had somehow gotten too far from the ball. Guess I had just gotten lazy with my setup so I made sure to focus more on that than anything else.

Not really practice. Just a varied range session with my MEVO that arrived yesterday.

So more of a mini report on the first impressions of it.

It was myself, our Assistant Super and Super.   We hit some 7 irons and drivers.

i was very impressed with the accuracy of the numbers from all of us.  It is what I have seen from each of us on the course before.   It hardly missed a shot. Read it quickly and was reset ready for the next shot instantly.

i only had my IPhone not an IPad out so it was limited to displaying 6 parameters.  But If you go into shot detail yoi see all the others.   Guess I’ll have to try using an IPad to see if that’s better for display.

Shortest hitter first-Guess who that is 😬

Went to the range today, hit low irons/wedges great but on the high irons/driver cutting across it a lot more than I’d like. Want to engrain that draw as my go to shot, especially with driver, to get more distance.

Assistant super is bringing it!

Yeah.  Nice young guy. Played baseball in college-was a pitcher.  They are always good golfers it seems.

116 driver CHS was his low.  He was consistently hitting 124.  Here’s the crazy thing.  He’s playing a driver with a senior flex shaft.  It is a hamd me down from his dad.  I don’t know how in the world he controls it.  But he does get way too much spin on most of his shots.  Even when he hit 127 he only got 290 carry due to the spin.

Hes just out of college and had a baby thsi yesr so he’s not in the position to get a new driver just yet.  I would be happy to give him one of mine and I at least have a stiff shaft or two I could put in.  But he’s LH.    I told him today I’d talk to our TM Rep and get him a PUD.   It might make it in his range.  I’d love to see whst he would do with a Stealth Plus.

Rob I’m noticing a trend here.  You were born on the wrong side of the golf ball 😆
