Syks7
Kind of an ongoing practice session. I have the net I just bought and the chipping net set up on the back yard. Rather than kill time on Reddit or here when I take a break I've been walking outside and hitting about a dozen balls or chips at a time. Kind of fun actually. Obviously can't see trajectory, but have a generalized idea based on where I hit on the net. One of the cooler things that I have noticed so far is how much more I can tell where I hit on the face and what the shaft is doing when I'm not distracted by seeing the shot. It's not going to fully replace range time, but its going to be very good for contact drills and getting more practice in. Contact & tempo have been solid today so far. Going to break out the swing caddie here in a bit and see if it will give me any data with limited ball flight. EDIT: The answer to the swing caddie is yes to shorter irons, no to longer clubs. Seems like it needs to see the ball for a bit longer with the longer clubs and I don't really want to move further back from the net. Too many neighbors and windows about... It's a pretty good drill I picked up from Adam Young's content and it works pretty well to establish a feel. I could have played every month, January and Feb were pretty soggy but I’m not scared of rain… guess that’s a good thing where I’m going. Oregon I should be able to play all year, at least from what I’m seeing on the courses social platforms. I was also getting a bit far from the ball, my wife actually pointed that out to me. Long game is pure, short game has vanished. There are many reasons why we do that, but many times it can be attributed to the first movement down in transition. I'm no expert on how to fix it, but I used to be an expert on how to do it. (Remember, the definition of expert; an "ex" is a has-been and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure. When I did that, my first movement down was with my upper body which got the club outside. I corrected that when I followed Monte when he said that I needed to consciously start my arms down slightly before any body rotation. BTW, I still do it on occasion, but it's rare and I know it's a result of this old body not getting loose before playing or when getting tired and sore late in a round. edingc
Determined to figure the friggin' driver out and spent the majority of another large bucket being "that guy" that just whacks driver at the range. Some good feels that resulted in better results, mostly just needing to really get further away from the ball at setup and outstretch my arms. I think I just get too jammed up and have no recourse other than to hang back, drop way inside and throw my hands out (hooks), fall forward while dropping inside (sniper duck hooks) or come over the top (straight pulls). Or worse, hang back and raise my hands and hit the 'ol banana ball two fairways over to the right. I have not found many fairways this season so far. As my driver goes, my scores go, so hopefully I can keep chipping away at some better drives. cksurfdude, sirchunksalot, ncwoz and 3 others 6 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. Popular Post cnosil
Prior to my round I worked on my finesse game and came to the conclusion I may need a new wedge or to definitely switch my approach. Started my practice with my 54* which is typically me go to around the green. Results were pretty mediocre and inconsistent so I switched to my set gap wedge and it was a night and day difference. With the gap wedge I was able to flight the ball, contact was solid, the club just glided over the grass like it was supposed to, and rollout was consistent. Switched back to the 54 and back to mediocrity. Back to the gap and results improved; also tried my 7 with good results I have seen advice that leveraging the gap wedge might be a better approach and load to what I observed in my practice. It also got me thinking about club setup and how a clubs feel impacts performance. I’ve hit a huge variation between my irons and wedges; irons are 85 gram graphite and 54/58 are 120 gram steel. I’ve tried graphite in a 54 but just didn’t like it. May put some of my wedges on a swing weight scale and regular scale to see if I can get the feeling a little closer and see how that impacts performance. Popular Post mikeanthony
Since my lesson about 2.5 weeks ago, I haven’t been able to get a 4-5 hour window to golf 18 and to see what my on course play would look like … so it’s been the range almost every other day. Had mainly been implementing changes from my lesson with the 8i on down to LW during previous range sessions … for yesterday, I worked mainly on 7i up to 4h and I’m seeing some success. The biggest difference I’m noticing is the next to none, nada, zilch mental chatter while standing over the ball; and literally just two pre-swing thoughts. And the benefit is just really allowing myself to get after the ball and smash it. No longer am I trying to self assess a mistake and determine what happened … I know it’s the range, but I’ve had many moments on the range where my brain was all over the place with thoughts. Driver lesson is next Tuesday … how I hope to GOD! we’ll get a fix in for that club. cnosil, Ben_Howell34, sirchunksalot and 7 others 10 Quote Driver: G410 SFT 10.5* 3W: Speedzone 14.5* Hybrid: TS2 19* & 21* Irons: Forged Tec One Length (5i-GW) Wedges: T22 55* & 59* Putter: 002 Mid-Mallet Ball: Callaway Chrome Soft LS & Prime-X

Want to engrain that draw as my go to shot, especially with driver, to get more distance. edingc, RollingGreens, JerryB and 3 others 6 Quote Radspeed Driver 10.5* Radspeed 3W 14.5* Stealth 4H 22* JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro 4i-PW RTX Zipcore Wedge 52* Mid Bounce RTX Zipcore Wedge 56* Mid Bounce Kirkland Signature KS1 Putter

They are always good golfers it seems. 116 driver CHS was his low. He was consistently hitting 124. Here’s the crazy thing. He’s playing a driver with a senior flex shaft. It is a hamd me down from his dad. I don’t know how in the world he controls it. But he does get way too much spin on most of his shots. Even when he hit 127 he only got 290 carry due to the spin. Hes just out of college and had a baby thsi yesr so he’s not in the position to get a new driver just yet. I would be happy to give him one of mine and I at least have a stiff shaft or two I could put in. But he’s LH. I told him today I’d talk to our TM Rep and get him a PUD. It might make it in his range. I’d love to see whst he would do with a Stealth Plus. edingc, JohnSmalls, cksurfdude and 2 others 5 Quote G430 Max 10K TSiR1 15.0 Aldlia Ascent 60g TSR2 18.0 PX Aldila Ascent 6og TSi1 20 Aldila Ascent Shafts R T350 5-GW SteelFiber I80 SM10 48F/54M and58K S159 48S/52S/56W/60B Select 5.5 Flowback 35" ProV1 Play number

Popular Post sirchunksalot
I was finally able to get the Mizuno's out to the range today and have kind of a "getting to know you" session. This past week has been a slew of bad weather ranging from rain to wind. I was hoping to get some net time before heading out to see flight, but I was going crazy. These clubs are awesome and fun to hit. My swing, on the other hand, was lacking in performance. My day started out with a beautiful 60° that went 25 yards and just left of my target. After that, I was visited by Shan-King. I can't say I'm too fond of that guy. I finally made a tweak in my setup, as someone with concrete, inflexible ankles I tend to get my weight into my toes. After that, I started seeing shots more toward the center. One thing I'll say about the Mizuno's is I was a little concerned going in about the difference in shafts and grips (xp 90 vs. Modus 105 and standard grips vs. MCC +4). Those concerns were unfounded as I was seeing straight shots to a baby fade compared to a hooky draw. Plus, once I got my weight right, I was getting more consistent face strike. I'm planning on booking a lesson next month and I'm currently trying to decide if I want my first lesson with the local pro to focus on setup, alignment, and grip or if I want to see if he can help me not to decelerate at impact. I finished my day on the putting and chipping greens. I wanted to play around with the set GW and hitting bump and runs with the 7 iron. I've got to say, both these clubs are money around the green.
