Definitely pointing to the lighter graphite negatively affecting your swing.

Some options would be adding lead tape to shaft or head and test to see if it makes any changes. 2-3g at a time to see what changes if anything.

I'll slap some tape on the center of the cavities and see if that makes any difference.

Worked on swing changes @McGolf helped me with over the weekend. Worked through a bucket of balls started on wedges all the way up. Only got a few fat iron shots and I wasn’t over swinging at all just smooth like we discussed. I was hitting my 9i 145-150 the distance of the 7i at my fitting. Thanks Jim as the session went on I was thinking about it less and less it became natural and comfortable. It’s amazing what four little things did for me

Ran into my buddy at the range this morning, he's the one who helped me get my driver swing squared away last season. I explained the problem I've been having with the massive draw and I wanted to try and see what was happening. He stood behind me and 3 balls in, asked why I was massively twisting the face closed on the backswing. He said my hands looked like DJ's. I worked a bit on feeling the club hinge up rather than back (I think I was overdoing some Monte moves from the NTC drills) and wouldn't you know it... nice straight ballflight.

Typical internet golfer, I kept wondering if it was my shafts, head offset, lie angle, etc looking for something to buy 🤣

Glad it’s was an easy fix. But still interesting that it was a bigger draw with the lighter shafts, or maybe you were just adding more flexion with those

Agreed, and my feeling is to agree with you on the lighter shafts and how they feel. I know that I've had issues in the past with lighter clubs, in particular the D7 driver I had for a while, and not feeling the clubhead in the swing and overcompensating with some hand/wrist movements. I'm due for some new irons at one point soon (if these tuition bills for my kids ever calm down) and that'll be something I chat with the fitter about before hand. I wasn't fit into these current irons, as I mentioned before my son was using them after I was fit into the C300s I was testing for MGS a number of years back. I snagged them back for the shafts after suffering from tennis elbow with steel shafts.

Range work this morning. The first part was getting back into speed training. I am going to be smarter this time and try to hit balls after so I don't mess up my form. I wonder if my PRGR is off. My pre training swings with a ball were 97 mph and post were 102 with a ball (108 dry). According to my P-avg on shot scope, my distance should be 287 and i doubt i am getting 30 yards of roll. I could be wrong. Anyways, when i was swinging driver, i was visualizing a fairway 30 yard wide and for the most part i was keeping it either in or just off. Then worked my way down from longer clubs using the same pretend fairway. 4W was really good today, and according to my PRGR i was swinging it faster than my driver. 3H i am still hooking. I tried to open the face, swing a little smoother, harder, etc. Still getting hooks. 4i was a little straighter after i realized i had to account for the offset more. Moved to 5i and was hitting it as far as my 4i. 196. Then went back to 4i and with the feel of the 5i was now straight and 207 on avg carry. Hit some 7i to a 175 post, was coming up just short. Then down to some PW to a flag about 140 away but was coming up short their too. Maybe a little fat. Didn't use my divot board on the mats to confirm.

Short game got my new target circle out. Worked on various chips/pitches. 54 was pretty good today. 58 had good touch but I learned that is a 10 yard and in club around the green if i need a soft landing. 54 is 20-25 yards and soft landing. If i need to run something up likely PW/9i. GW useful 25-35 yards depending on slope.

Did some quick putting work with my mirror. Was striking the face better as my distances were all long and I didn't feel hits on the toe. I guess the gate work I did yesterday kicked in today. Finished with 8 footers and went 5/6 to finish. Overall a productive practice session.

After the last few range sessions I'm feeling cautiously optimistic. Things have finally been coming together closer to where they should be. Spending half the time hitting wedges has really helped figure out what I was doing wrong on those. Since I am still working on the swing changes, I've feel like I've been swinging at around 20% speed, but for whatever reason that works for me. My tendency when I try to swing is to tighten up my grip and that causes me to get steep. Focusing on keeping a very loose grip and feeling the weight of the club drop my hands down at the transition has made a huge difference in getting the club shallow.

Now it's just incorporating the feeling of turning all the way through and getting my hands forward more. I've been pulling up my latest video analysis to re-watch it each day for kind of a mental boost and a reminder of the little things that I need to keep working on. Having a swing on video that I can pull up and tell myself that it's not perfect, but I would realistically be happy with that swing every day, seems to help me get out of my own head a little bit.

Next I have to start putting some of these changes into driver. Eventually I would like to get to the point where the driver swing doesn't feel like an entirely different swing to me. Small steps. Wife is going out of town next weekend for a wedding, so that seems like an opportunity to get in a few rounds to see if I can transfer the range work to the course.

After cratering my last few rounds I haven't been able to do anything golf related due to work all week.  Finally got the chance to hit the range this evening.

Was able to sort out my iron issues and come up with a bit of a solution:  Playing the ball a little further back in my stance is a big part along with adjusting my alignment.  Setting up with the ball just a touch further away allowed me to swing a little more free.  I'd been getting a little jammed up resulting in a lot of mis-hits but moving the ball position resulted in more consistently clean strikes.  Hit a few wedges as well with similar results.

The longer clubs though...still a work in progress.  Driver is still mostly weak hooks.  Woods and hybrids are just awful.  I'm all out of sorts; the worst feel is getting jammed up on my lead hip.  Topping a ton.  Not sure what to do.

My Skillest coach has me trying to get the club shaft higher in my hands, getting me less "squatted". I've got the grip/handle too low which promotes too much of an around the body and not enough vertical.  As always too much of anything in any direction can be too much.  Trying to find that sweet spot.  Been working on posture since we started. For putting its all about my tempo - I'm too "jabie".  And while I don't feel it, I absolutely see it on video.

I played 36 on Friday, and Saturday and Sunday at the Prairie Club.  I walk the first 18 at dawn, and ride the second round in the afternoon.  Too slow my pace down and not run into anyone in front of me I shot some on course videos for her.  Everything from driving to approach to putting.  Have to admit I was skeptical about skillet, but finding it very worthwhile - this is a perfect example.  Shoot some video and get feedback the next day.

Always something to work on...

I saw someone else on the forum mention my coach - I watched some of her videos and then exchanged some messages with her before signing up.   SO many to choose from - look at some of their sample lessons to get a flavor of their style.  The coach I went with is specifically about "feel" - trying to find the right feel.  If I'd wanted a numbers coach she'd have recommended someone to me.  I struggle with understanding how something is supposed to feel so I thought she'd be a good fit and it has been.  I get my analysis back, and then she sends me different videos of her showing a particular drill and what I'm supposed to feel.  I can't argue with the results - I "feel" I'm improving...

Getting the video I bought an @irange stick - slipped a magnet into my iPhone case and it just snaps right to it.  Has a spiked end to push into the ground.  Been super easy to use.

I think the whole Skillest app has been good to use.

Pretty sure I'm using the same coach that @Vegan_Golfer_PNW is. I had been away from golf for awhile until picking it back up last year. I wanted to get an outsider view on my swing to break down the important things to work on rather than trying to build a whole new swing. I don't practice enough to completely retool my awkward swing, but I can practice enough to improve the functionality of the swing I have if that makes sense.

I wasn't sure how the online lesson format would work for me, and he offered a reasonably priced package so I went for that to start. So I guess you could say part of my decision was based on the financial aspect because I didn't want to throw a lot of money at one lesson if it might not help. The local coaches near me are quite expensive and based on reviews not all that great. I actually didn't know that others on here were using the coach I ended up with until after I started. We sent a few messages back and forth and I got a bit of an understanding of what his teaching style would be and that was enough for me to try. I'm currently in the middle of my second package of lessons, but looking at the before and current swings, I have no complaints with Skillest or my coach.

Recording is still the biggest challenge for me, but that's because I'm too cheap/lazy to buy a tripod or something similar. I have been making due with propping my phone in my bag when it comes time to get some new video.

Thats how i was too. At that price it was worth a shot. I did recently get a tripod (i kinda broke it but should still be useable). The funny thing is I am longer now than i used to be so i play from the back tees. If i go back to the next tee up I would probably break personal bests.

Today i am on day 4 of a cold but feel it coming to an end. pushed myself. Did some speed training in the morning and hit whiffles after with the driver to hit a ball. After did some slow swings with my 7i to the divot board to go back to the feel my coach has me working on.

Later in the day did some hybrid slow swings on the divot board focusing on my address of the club (I hook this club so much). Then some chipping feels on the divot board with my 54* and lots of putting work. From 8ft straight on my rug i was 9 for 9. the alignment work and putter sword are winners.

Was gonna play a practice nine today but still not feeling great. Over exerted at the range.

Did some lesson work and then a simulated nine on the range. Then some driver work and some random practice iron work. On the driver work I finally felt a mushy ball with my setup. Was a bomb that if I was feeling better may have been 290 carry.

Putting work cross handed. The putting sword on the green was more consistent today. Worked on ten footers and I tell you this grip change works wonders. Lag putting was a struggle but I just need to recalibrate. At least putts start on a line. Finished with mirror/tiger gate work for face control and hit ten more putts after that work. Golden!

Shory game practice. Worked with multiple clubs and shot types. Realized on firm ground I can get a nice fade spin finesse shot with my 58. Will probably never use it but was fun to practice. Ranged from 58 up to nine iron with bump and runs, short pitches and putting strokes. Even tried a cross handed chip and shanked it 45* and lost a ball on the practice area. Oh well. Despite being exhausted it was a great session. Hopefully I can play Saturday to test myself.

I’ve been struggling with face angle consistency with my irons lately and feeling like my game has plateaued. After watching the Rick Shiels / EAL video last week and talking to my dad about his recent change to an interlock grip, I decided to change it up myself and go with an overlap grip.

My non-overlap grip tends to be very weak, forcing me to flip my wrists in an attempt to square up the club face. With the overlap grip, even though it doesn’t feel natural (I came to golf with a hockey and baseball background) I don’t feel like I have to manipulate anything to square up the club face.

Irons felt ok (just need some more practice with the new grip to manage my low-point control) but the driver change was immediate and drastic - instead of fighting a slice, I was immediately hitting baby draws and tight fades out to the back of the range!

I’m on vacation with my wife’s family right now, and have a tee time booked for Thursday morning at Furry Creek, a notoriously tight course that I haven’t played before, so that will be an excellent test to see how it holds up to actual on-course play.

I'm working on my 6 iron.  That's the longest iron I carry but I can't hit the thing to save my life.  I hit perfect 7 and 8 irons...  feels like the same swing with the 6 and its a chunky hook.  At this point, the 6 iron will be in the corner on game days in favor of a PXG hybrid.  Gotta do what you gotta do.

Got in a quick half-bucket at the range today and only brought along the 4h, 3W and D.

Really just focused on hitting it hard, committing to the shot & completing the follow-thru all the way around, along with keeping my left elbow straighter and not allowing it to bend ever so slightly.

Was hitting it much further.
