Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Range day. Was nice out but 21 mph sustained winds (35mph gusts) and rain. Also no short game work as we got about 3” of rain in the last 24 hours plus the melt from snow and ice. I forgot my shoes at home. Made traction bad and messed with me mentally. My 6i and 4i were pretty decent. Did some shaping practice for calibration and some low point work. 4w was good. Driver contact was great. Had great ball speeds for the Chs I was seeing (106-108). The overspeed benefits weren’t there today likely because I trained yesterday. I think I also need to try and get out once a week and just swing driver as fast as I can to push it. Finished with wedges and was struggling with thins and shanks. Likely due to being tired. It was the end of a jumbo bucket. I discovered the course I went to has an indoor TrackMan now. $30 for 30 mins. I may try to do a couple sessions just to see where things are at. Popular Post sirchunksalot
I was finally able to get to the range today after being sidelined for a little over a month. It was wonderful to be able to swing a club again after so long (apologies to my northern friends). Hit quite a few partial wedges to warm up and just get the feel for hitting a ball again. The first shot was just so good. I was a bit toe biased today, but I'm not going to complain after being plagued in the other direction so long. PW: 6 iron: Driver: Driver needs more work as I'm not hitting it good at the moment. A couple of my shots scared me that I might kill the paint on the crown. Hit the putting green to finish off the day and was surprised my distance control was still pretty good. I sank a couple from 15-20 feet and only three putted twice. sirchunksalot
I hit up the range again today, wanted to work on staying connected during the swing. I realized this at the end of my last session and saw an improvement in strike. I started out with wedges, but some really good ones and some that I could only describe using the s-word....S&@#k. I had two thoughts today, stay connected and rotate. Hit irons really good, at least according to my usual standard. I did see a little more of a heel bias than last time, but managed to keep it under control. Fairway woods were ok, I still need some work on them. I would flush one, then top another. Driver showed the most improvement over last time. After going through a good bit of the bucket doing block practice, I played a few holes in my mind, switching clubs between shots. I really enjoy this type of practice because it doesn't allow you to get in a groove with any one club. Finished off with about 30 minutes of time in the putting green. chisag, cksurfdude, edingc and 6 others 8

I wrote about it over in my work in progress thread, but the basics is that I'm still working on club face stability through impact. I tend to over rotate the face and hit hooks and overdraws. I was able to get in the garage yesterday before the storm hit and work on the tweaks we made. Some good, some bad. My strike moved in towards the heel a bit and as a result my efficiency went down and I had quite a few nasty shanks. Hopefully that will sort itself out. Good example swing with a wedge below, tightened up backswing with a more across the chest finish. Quoting myself here as I figured out the cause of the shanks and heels after a couple of sessions where they continued to pop up. I started to get a little too focused on keeping my club face more open at impact and started to drag the club too far inside in the back swing, which led to me "pushing" the hosel into the ball through impact. This morning's session started off pretty frustrating until I got that sorted. A good feel for me is to feel like my trail arm gets a little disconnected away from me as I take the club back. In my case feel isn't real, so when I have this "disconnected" feeling it's actually me keeping my arms and club in front of my body instead of sucking it inside. Swings have been coming along nicely, and today with my garage nearing 50 degrees I was seeing some really good ball speeds out of both my 6 iron and driver, while my face control continues to improve. JerryB
Took some cuts into the net today. I set up and realized the shadow from my head was right over the ball. This allowed me to work on keeping my head still, minimizing both head movement and body swaying. Then I tried to eliminate my chicken wing on the takeaway. Work in progress but it all came together on one swing and felt like a million bucks! Last shot, I shanked it and missed the net. It bounced off the wall and... nothing. Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Worked on a feel the last few days of starting my lead shoulder up and away in down swing. Also incorporated a slightly open face at address. Kept at it today on the range and took video for a lesson. Trying to understand why my irons have become heely since Moi matching them. I’m thinking the slight length increase did that. Of course, one of the 5i I hit for the video was a straight high beauty. Driver was decent. My path was very left dominant but strikes just heel side of center. Hit some 93mph CHS with my 5i which felt nice. Also lined three balls up and tried to hit them in stride not pausing. Jim Shaw
it was great to get back to the practice area today after about 3 weeks off, worked at the practice green area on my 40 yd. shots, went through the shag bag, then the greens crew cut the practice green so I had to spend 45 minutes working on my putting with a putting mirror to check my eyes behind the ball, make sure my putter is square and take the putter back and through properly, then hit some 20 footers to get a feel back. then went to the range and hit 30 balls, focusing on 1-eye on the back of the ball, 2-head still, 3-follow through... that was enough for today, will do the same tomorrow then play wednesday. edingc
Last day of our holiday break, 40s and rainy, so I made the trek up to the heated range to see some actual ball flight. I love being able to practice in my garage with my Mevo+, but sometimes my brain just needs to actually see the ball go to make sure what I'm doing is right. I rotated through a few clubs after 7-8 balls each for a bucket and a half, and then for the last half bucket I swapped between 4 wood and hybrid every two balls as not to get in a rhythm. Results were good! I'm amazed how much my golf swing has changed since I started going to this range back in the fall of 2019. My miss is still a pull, pull draw or overdraw, but they are much less frequent than even at the end of the season. I wasn't swinging all out but was comfortable and my distances seemed OK given the range balls are absolutely the worst things you can possible hit (ancient Nike practice balls with pretty much no dimples). I had some really good swings with the wood and hybrid that had me beaming. Still working on getting things all aligned - I'm close. Some good feels for me today were to stay tall at address, re-center my pressure by P2 and then something I saw on Jake Hutt's Instagram the other day, a feel that I'm trying to spin my feet closed to start the downswing. Really seems to get the club moving more left for me and keeps me from spinning out too early in the downswing. cksurfdude, ejgaudette, JerryB and 4 others 7 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. I thought I would take advantage of the opportunity and went to the range. I had a fun time getting out and working on my game. Started out with wedges and they weren't too bad, I did fight a little bit of contact off the hosel. My distance control was good, so I'm happy about that. I wore a jacket to the range and took it off after getting hot. I then decided to throw it over my shoulders and tuck the sleeves under my armpits. Staying connected is a big problem for me and this helped keep it in check. My driver was good again today, along with the fairway woods. I was happy with this one. Hit up the putting green afterward and it wasn't as sharp as normal to start out, but I settled down and finally got a grip on distance control. I usually see a bit of a mental lapse on the days I go after work. I think the early wakeup time does that, especially the week after being off for shutdown. Marty Reymann
Took 125 swings on the nitroswing then hit about 30 balls with my feet together, a really good practice session. I'm in Akron Ohio at a driving range that stays open all year round, it's nice hitting balls in January 241609701_PXL_20230105_201642138_TS5.mp4 1618065345_PXL_20230105_203442064_TS9.mp4 cksurfdude and JerryB
JerryB
Took some cuts into the net with my 8 iron today. Had a bit of an "ah-ha" moment where I really narrowed my stance and gripped down as far as possible. Had much more consistent contact and gave me some things to think about, which I touch on in my Gettin' Better thread. https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/54026-jerrybs-gettin-better-thread/page/4/#comment-884490 Rickp, sirchunksalot, Vegan_Golfer_PNW and 1 other 4 Quote Cobra Aerojet Max driver Cobra Aerojet Max 3 wood and 7 wood Cobra Aerojet 4/5/6 hybrids Cobra Aerojet 7-PW, GW Cobra Snakebite 52° and 58° wedges Cobra King Stingray 20 putter
