What/How Did You Practice Today?

I've made a big change to my setup after I noticed that my stance is straight up and down, that means I've not turned at my hips and the shoulders are directly above my feet but after moving my shoulders in front of my hips my hands aren't as close to my body and I feel more comfortable. I've only hit a 9iron like that yesterday and will try again tomorrow, I noticed that after seeing Jack Nicklass hitting back in 84 on a utube video lol and I thought I don't look anything like that. So I'm giving it a go and see what happens..

First range day since playing a few weeks ago. Worked on the proper pressure shifting. Gonna take several months until that becomes more natural. Was still battling some heel strikes. Did some impact drill visualization and that helped. Realizing a feel I had last year of crunch my trail side in transition helps me feel all these good things. Again, still work in progress.

short game work was good. Ball forward chipping great for soft landings. In the middle good if more roll out desired. Also did some more putting with the DF. I am really starting to like my distance control. Back to left hand low and slowly coming back to heads up putting.

Follow my journey to enjoying golf and going low

Had to run into town to grab a few things so stopped at the driving range and hit a small bucket of balls.  Didn't even pull the driver out just hit my irons and then went and practiced putting on their large green for a bit.  Hoping i'll be better on Tuesday than I was last week.

Is there a home simulator that works with the almost golf or foam balls?

Optishot 2  does this and its the least expensive out there. You can click a drop down box and select real balls, foam balls or no ball. That is what I have and only use foam balls (they are a harder foam ball) I can use real, but I don't trust others if you know what I mean. The system even comes with a ball or two. The system uses led sensors in two rows in the mat which gives you all the club data. It's downfall is no ball data. I have a flight scope mevo as well for ball data.

Owen and I got out to River Heights yesterday and today.  Walked the back nine yesterday and parts of the front and back today, dropping second and third balls on occasion.

Iron game is atrocious.  I'm almost better off just throwing the ball, lol.  Long clubs were actually pretty decent.  Driver was good, other than the one shot where I tried to tee it really low and topped it three inches into the ground, ha!  Switched putters recently and it really seems to be helping, too.

Walking the course is nice but I really can't wait for the course to open and get back in a cart!

Still sticking with my exercises during the week, going for refresher lessons on Tuesdays and visiting my Physical Therapy on Thursdays.  Hit a few balls on Tuesdays.   Will probably start going to the range once or twice a week as we start to finish the clinic and my Physical Therapist releases me to start playing.  Do not want to rush things with the lower back.

Today I picked up my driver and hybrid from being regripped from standard to midsize. All my other clubs are already midsize grips. I went to the range and worked on getting a feel for both of them with the new grips. I also worked on my draw and cut shots with my irons. The season is just about to start here in New York plus I am heading to GA this Wednesday for a golf trip with a few buddies. I always enjoy beating them so I have to practice in order for that to happen.

I enjoy practicing on the golf crse in the late afternoon/early evening when I can hit multiple balls without interfering with anyone playing.  I may hit a couple of drives and will always work on my short (scoring) game and try to get up and down from various lies.
i practice fairway bunker shots, green side bunkers, 30-60 yd pitch shots, pitching over bunkers to a short sided pin, etc.  a whole lot of fun with no one else on the crse near me.  Try, you will like it.

Yeah I'm only practicing with my 9iron and SW because I was hitting them poorly, like you I play 2-5 balls if nobody's around me lol..

Played a practice 9 - we still have temporary greens .. the fairways are still pretty scruffy and there are plenty of extra loose impediments 😄 in the rough .. but hey it's golf!

Was trying to focus on getting the ball into play off the tee .. while taking a full swing .. but was only maybe 50-50... 🤷‍♂️

Alternated between driver and 3W - which is an old Bertha Mini and I seem to still be more comfortable with...

Definitely tampering my expectations but sometimes even on shorties I feel I should be making I end up leaving it short. I think of either slowing or speeding up my stroke to control distance but seems the judgement of that speed isn’t there yet

Are you practicing on a mat .. that preferably has some markings on it?

As @cnosil mentioned you can adjust *either* your stroke length _or_ your stroke effort (force) .. but really shouldn't change both at once .. to help control distance while trying to keep the same overall stroke tempo.

There's no shortage of putting training aids, of course, but as an fyi one I picked up recently had been really helpful to me...

Non golf related day, couch potato'ing. I was exhausted from playing or practicing 10-11 days in a row.

I did give my clubs a firm brushing, then lined them up for a stern talking to. I informed them furthers scores in the 90s won't be tolerated and infractions may result in up to 2 weeks in the dark garage. I also set the groundwork for good relations with the 24° UT coming tomorrow. I don't want the 6i to feel inadequate and the driver is nervously looking over its metaphorical shoulder already.

I guess that can qualify as "mental" preparation 😉

I get more used to it the more I play it, but after about a dozen rounds I still slip back into the motions of swinging a much lighter putter head. The weight definitely takes time to get used to, it's very heavy compared to anything I've used.

Also changed the stock pistol grip to a 2.0 Superstroke which I only have 6 rounds with, so definitely still in the "getting to know you" phase.

I am lagging long putts better than before with my Odyssey blade, but don't yet have a feel for inside 10'. I do feel mighty confident standing over a 40' uphill putt now, which is good but ideally I'm trying to avoid them in the first place.

I was just thinking, about a quarter of my rounds from December to March were played on greens that look like that. Pretty sure a couple of my best putting days were on conditions like that without the sand.

Not something I want to get good at, and it messes me up when I show up at an actual course with fast greens.

NBC viewers might be more familiar with the concept of Chris Hardwick's The Wall. Similar pattern to how the ball travels.

I know it from the price is right. Used to watch it as a kid when home over the summer. Back in the Bob Barker days.

Good evening all!

Today, I was able to practice my own game a bit while helping high school golfers as well. I decided to be a volunteer high school coach at my school which has opened up some cool opportunities. A majority of the courses near us haven't opened yet, so lately, for practice, we have been working on shots from 150 yards in a nearby field by the high school. Although it was great practice for my own game, I was happier to help the younger players. Watching young players invest in the game is an awesome thing. Seeing the joy on young players' faces when the light bulb finally clicks is a great feeling. Coaching is a great way to work on my own game and help others. Hoping for a great season!
