edingc
Two buckets at the range today. Started in a fog and then the lighting was just right so that I had a hard time tracking balls through the snow on the ground again. Frustrating, but I don't have other options unless I want to pay $50+ hour for simulators. Anyway... Today's focus was to get my hands more under my chin and more on top of my chest at address. I like to let my arms hang too close to my body which causes issues with my takeaway rolling inside or getting pushed outside. That change was a nice success. With a lot more room for my arms to operate I didn't have to raise the handle so much on the way through impact and I picked up an easy bit of club speed, too. My back was pretty stiff this morning and I struggled getting proper lower body rotation as a result. Lots of left in my swing today, but on ones where I got into my rear hip well on the backswing I hit some very solid shots. As always, a work in progress, but still feeling like I'm progressing toward my goals. sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, ParFore74x and 1 other 4 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. TR1PTIK
Got my recently acquired J40s adjusted for loft & lie along with new grips then went to the range. Such a huge difference!!! Not just in ball flight, but overall feel including impact with the ball is completely night and day. Interestingly, I can't seem to make good contact with the 3-iron which I would like to have as an option when the occasion calls for it. I couldn't even make out where I was striking the ball on the face because it wasn't leaving any marks - I'll definitely have to get some foot powder spray. It did improve a little when I moved from mat to grass, but was falling short of where I expected it to. The 4-iron is almost a non-issue so I'm very intrigued to discover why an extra 1/2" of shaft, and stronger loft is all it takes to be completely horrible. I also took the opportunity to test and verify some of the swing changes I felt needed to be made from my last post. After a quick warmup, I went straight to the driver to measure improvement via ball speed (since I know where I've been before and what it should be). I first hit a few balls with my "lazy" swing - low to mid 140s. For the next set, I made some small adjustments to my setup, then focused on trying to push toward the wall behind me with my left arm - really trying to get a proper turn while keeping the arm straight(er). Bam! I immediately jumped into the low to mid 150s which is close to where I believe I should be. The last test, was to try incorporating a bit more flexion with the lead wrist at the top of my swing. It feels like I'm trying to break my wrist I swear, but all I do in reality is go from very fractionally cupped or flat to completely flat or just the other side of it. Ball speeds were good, but strike was erratic so still a lot of work to do on that one. Most importantly, I realized how much I need to continue working on this "new" move and doing any sort of exercise that might help it. I was notably more fatigued in my shoulders after my bucket was emptied which is probably why I struggled so much to maintain it in 2020. All in all, a good day!!! cksurfdude, edingc and sirchunksalot 3 Quote Driver: ST190 9.5* Fujikura Atmos Blue 5S Fairway Wood: ST190 15* Fujikura Atmos Blue 6S Hybrid: CLK 17* Fujikura Speeder EVO HB Irons: J40 CB (3-PW) Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 Wedges: Milled Grind 2 54* & 58* Dynamic Gold S200 Putter: Tri-Hot 5k Two 34" Bag: Players 5 Stand Bag Ball: Maxfli Tour

You could use some alignment sticks and a pool noodle to setup a bar that you have to hit your shots under. Some simple math can help you determine how far away and how high the noodle needs to be to get the launch angle you are seeking. I have done that with distance wedges trying to hit under 30*; the visual is sometimes better than just seeing the number on a launch monitor. edingc
Spent 30-45 minutes throughout the day today practicing chipping with the Planemate. I haven't spent a lot of time using the Planemate for short game work, but I watched the chipping protocol video and gave it a shot. It gave me some really good feels and got me rotating well and not getting handsy. Our basement carpet has a very short pile and simulates chipping off hard pan pretty well. Excited to see that the Planemate really helped with low point control, and it continued even after I took the Planemate off. wely324, cksurfdude, sirchunksalot and 1 other 4 Quote Unofficial WHS Handicap: 7.5 / Anti-Cap: 13.0 (Last Updated Feb. 19, 2024) Driver: Callaway Paradym TD (10.5°, -1/N), 45.75", Fujikura Motore X F1 6X | Fitting Post 3 Wood: Cobra RadSpeed Big Tour (14.5°), 43", Fujikura Motore X F1 7X 20° Hybrid: PXG 0211 (2020 Model), 40.25", Mitsubishi Tensei AV RAW White 90X 4 Utility: Cobra KING Utility (2020 Model), 38.5", Aerotech SteelFiber i110cw Stiff 5-PW: Ben Hogan PTx Pro, 37" 7 Iron, Aerotech SteelFiber i125cw Stiff | Club Champion Fitting 50°, 54°, 58°: Edel SMS, V Grind, Nippon Modus 125 Wedge| Official Review Thread Putter: L.A.B. wely324
I worked a bit on my putting yesterday indoors using a metal ruler to roll the ball on. It's a great tool/drill to do for feedback on whether you are striking the ball square and starting it online. I was using my perfect practice matt along with it. The reason I use the ruler is that there is no room for error if you push or pull the putt. You will recognize the direction right away. I will try to get some video of it today. cksurfdude, Shapotomous, cnosil and 1 other

revkev
Quarantine, Day 9 - i still have no symptoms and will be free tomorrow. I went to the range - this is the huge advantage of being a member at a private club.Balls are out on the range already and I simply went mid day to the far corner at least 20 feet from the closest person. I hadn’t swung a club in a week and a half. Sadly that has become the norm since school resumed - it’s so hard to keep a school and church community safe.At any rate I was very happy with how I hit it. I know that my ideal launch with driver is between 15-16 degrees. I ended up with an average carry of 220 on the Rapsodo so not bad at all, for me. That’s around 240 with a gamer on the course, at sea level. Better though was how I hit 7 and 8 iron. I was easily carrying 7 past flags at 141 and 140 respectively - into a bit of wind and got three iron to those flags 1/3 of the time. I’m really loving my D7 forged irons - can’t wait until April when I can try them under stress - but for now the ball flight is beautiful Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy GolfSpy_SHARK, cksurfdude, sirchunksalot and 3 others 6 Quote Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 Aldila R flex - 42.25 inches SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft Ping G410 7, 9 wood Alta 65 R flex Srixon ZX5 MK II 5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex India 52,56 (60 pending) UST recoil 75's R flex Evon roll ER 5 32 inches It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

revkev
Didn’t realize one could go play golf during a Covid quarantine 14 day period. I guess I should try to contract the virus and go on vacation to Florida to get some winter golf in!I don’t have COVID, I was exposed to it, it’s normal incubation period is 2-7 days. The CDC has reduced the quarantine time to 7 days for an exposure but our health department has yet to back it down and it’s still 10 to return to work. So I’m taking advantage of these last three days out for certain. I can assure you that I was not close to putting anyone at risk And yes, outside exercise has always been recommended by health officials even during lock downs. Our golf courses never closed. Shapotomous
It's been fairly good weather around here this winter and I have been getting a good bit of net time to work on a couple things. I videoed the mid winter progress today using an 8i. I have been trying to get my lead heel off the ground on the backswing, get to the 'holding a platter' position with my right hand on the backswing and trying to get my lead hip to open sooner on the downswing. The heel is going OK but the other two need a lot of work yet. There are more 3/4 swings to emphasize those changes in my training plan! I am pretty happy with the current state of the swing as some winters the weather has been so bad I wouldn't touch a club from Christmas until March. sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, revkev and 2 others 5 Quote Modern Bag: G410 LST 10.5*, Hzrdus Smoke RDX 6.5 Flex; 915F 3w, Diamana S+ 70 S flex; Snake Eyes 18* 2h, 23* 4h & 27* 5h; JPX 900 Forged 6 - PW, PX LZ 6.0; Edison 2.0 49*, 53*, 57* KBS Tour 120 S; Heppler Fetch; Ball - MTB-X; Bag - Jones MyGolfSpy Edition! Its about 20x35 post and beam building that houses the tractors, ladders, leftover project materials, coal bin, cans and other metal recycling stuff before I haul it away and some other stuff that needs to stay out of the weather. And since last spring the hitting mat & net live there which makes it nice to hit in bad or good weather or after dark since its well lit. sirchunksalot, cksurfdude and GolfSpy_SHARK 3 Quote Modern Bag: G410 LST 10.5*, Hzrdus Smoke RDX 6.5 Flex; 915F 3w, Diamana S+ 70 S flex; Snake Eyes 18* 2h, 23* 4h & 27* 5h; JPX 900 Forged 6 - PW, PX LZ 6.0; Edison 2.0 49*, 53*, 57* KBS Tour 120 S; Heppler Fetch; Ball - MTB-X; Bag - Jones MyGolfSpy Edition! I'm pretty jealous of that setup, having a place out of the elements is something I would love. Your swing is looking good and I got a kick out of the sound since the video is in slow motion, it sounds explosive. cksurfdude, GolfSpy_SHARK and Shapotomous
