They do have similar thoughts to GG, but lots of instructors talk about the same type of setup. Some coaches I know of like Monte and Bradley Hughes discuss this and Bradley even says the same thing about true weight being on the shoe laces.

The setup is similar to many of the greats. Here’s Jack and Norman. You can see the butt underneath them

This is something I constantly struggle with. My instructor has been trying to fix it since last spring, and it always creeps back in:

Same 4 iron, similar camera angle, one or two weeks apart. Bet you can tell what day I had a much better day on the range...

I went to the range today with the intention of working on one of the drills from the Strike Plan where you try to intentionally hit a toe shot and then a heel shot to develop feel for each in order t

Hard to think of a cheaper training aid than some foot spray... Worth every penny

Finally got to do some “chipping” after what seems forever. Was pleased with results after 4+ months. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

It is amazing how just getting time to just hit balls provides a much better opportunity to get better at golf.

Hit some more balls on the gcquad yesterday and made a tweak to my grip. As a result i started getting more consistent non toe contact and was less toe down at impact. The only issue after the change was that my ball flight was a big push as my paths was 6-7 degrees in to out. Moved the ball about a ball forward and opened stance a bit and I was able to get a better path but still had the tendency to get too in to out and push the ball. Still great progress as the ball was starting to the right of my target line and wasn’t a pull or pull hook.

Next steps are to continue working on path and get the face to close as I think I have “trained”myself to not release the club to compensate for the toe strikes.

I do too. Like @Micah T I’ve been doing lots of mirror work this winter looking at my setup.  Between the GG course and my coach who is for coached and learned under him I use the approach of standing tall, slightly soften the knees then round from the mid spine. I have a slight bend at the waist. The one thing I need to work on is stance width, GG talks about widening the stance if you need to in order to reach the ball. I tend to be a little narrow.

Are you possibly getting steep and stalling the hips causing you compensate? Could also be right side bend/shoulder dip too early in transition.

Really worked on wedge gapping and flighting them down today - for 2 hours. Did mix in a few drives, 5 woods and 7 irons to stave off any boredom.

Ping G410 - turned down to11.25 degrees, neutral setting - Fujikura Motore X R flex

Ping G410 5-9 wood

Wilson D7 forged 6-GW -  Mamiya recoil 460 R flex

SCOR 52,60

EVNRoll ER 5

Titleist Pro VIx optic yellow with revkev stamped on them

Currently testing Edison wedges to replace SCORS that are wearing out. Also auditions for the 14th spot in the bag.  Current possibilities are a Ping 26 degree hybrid - duplicates the 9 wood or 5 iron but would be used almost exclusively for chipping or Tour Exotics 3 wood simply because you can carry 14 clubs and I might occasionally hit it in certain unusual wind conditions once every four or five rounds.

Got a 30 minute session at PGASS tonight after work. Took a few clubs in to just get loose and swing some.

happy to report that the irons and wedges were basically where they are mid-season and I had a tight little draw tonight. Hopefully that’s a result of the 60-60-100 drill. I felt like my contact was really crisp on my good shot.

driver was spotty, but I had a handful of good ones and nothing that was really bad like last time.

I FINALLY got to hit my MIM Black 52* with my newly installed Modus 125 wedge shaft in it. My goodness do I love it. So glad I swapped them out.

also pretty cool I was able to export the ball data and email it to myself. I’ll dig into that a bit and post later.

NOOOOOO! Video ruined my swing lol. My new coach is all about the ball flight and strike quality, then works back from there. I’ve never hit the ball so pure since I’ve started to only focus on that. I would only use video of someone who know ls what they’re looking at is there with me. Just my personal opinion... and the opinion of some top coaches

Couple more buckets on a beautiful Saturday morning. I saw at least one course about 45 minutes away from me opened up today for the season, but I can't imagine it's terribly good golf as there has to still be snow in some of the shaded areas.

Anyway, took the new GoPro up there and messed around with shooting at 1080p and 240 fps. Unfortunately, you can only shoot 240 fps in the wide lens setting, which distorts the video a bit. Still looks pretty cool.

The actual range session was pretty good. I'm starting to get a good feel for where my weight is at setup (as we discussed a few posts ago), and am realizing the cause of many of my toe strikes lately were the result of having too much weight toward my toes at address. It took me a few swings to get the feeling right, but once I did I didn't stray too far from the center of the clubface.

I'm still struggling with my hip movement. Tried the 60/60/100 drill that's been mentioned around here and had some success, but overall I'm still really struggling to get much of any hip turn in the backswing. I compensate with a lot of upper body turn and some arm overrun, and then on the way down I need to make a bunch of horrible movements to keep the ball from going way left, with longer clubs especially. Today that meant once I started work with my hybrids I hit a lot high cuts/fades.

Looks like hips will be the struggle of my season. I do know I tend to get too wide with my feet, which restricts what little hip turn I have even more, so that's a focus moving forward. Hoping to grab one more indoor lesson before I get outside for the year.

Feel like your right side (shoulder, hip and knee) move back to start the swing. Think of shooting a bow and arrow

Yeah, that's a new thought and it works great with no club in my hands (like most thoughts/motions). The trick is finding something that works well when I'm holding onto a club...

I think at one point the mobility in my right hip held me back some, but I've made some good progress physically this winter and now just need to get my brain to cooperate.

I hear ya. I was struggling with the change in the movement of the backswing when I started with my coach last summer. The drills without a club were going good. When I would try to make a swing with a club even just outside to get some video for my coach on the drills it wasn’t so good.

A couple drills I’ve been throwing in periodically are using an alignment rod in the club and put it on my right hip, feel like it stays there til my hands are at and then slightly past my trail leg. At this point I set the wrist where the shaft becomes parallel to my target line. From this point it’s the right side move back and towards the target with a fold of the right elbow

The other is the drill that’s in this video around the 2:15 mark. I did one lesson with Dan in 2019 and this is one he gave me. To work on for both rotation and helping to rotate my forearms less

Been working with my coach regularly for over a year (and is the only swing coach I have used over the last 10 years);  lately we have been working on short game and I have done both in person, video, and launch monitor data analysis with him.  Yes, it is all about ball flight and quality and video can show him this.  In addition to the video,  I will also get some launch monitor data to show the dynamics of my swing.

[/url] The actual range session was pretty good.

This swing makes me envious! Good work! Looks great!

Thanks, guys! I feel like I've made some good progress this winter despite only being able to get in one lesson. Credit goes to the Planemate for helping me feel some of the right positions to be in.

That's a fun one, and I actually have a Callaway "chip stick" laying around that goes on the butt of the club. I'll have to play around with it some. The Planemate does a pretty good job of reinforcing this feel too.

I know stance width is killing me. I get so wide, especially with shorter clubs, that staying centered is nearly impossible without some ridiculous compensations.

I have the opposite issue with stance width.

that drill is fun. It’s an awkward feeling because of where the hands start.
