Puttout work just working on speed control

planemate with my 58* after my thin fest  Tuesday. Felt much better now and looking at the divot board low point was much better.

driver with planemate just to get feels. Trying a weaker grip to see if that keeps my hands less active. My miss is heely but last round I think contact was ok, just my face to path had no control.

hopefully the range early tomorrow morning before Oregon turns into Arizona.

But... you cool off next week!!!  We don't!  Check out what it's like 200 miles up the Columbia River...

Most of those high temps will be all time high records.

So, after a session with the PlaneMate at home in 80º temp, I headed to the course for much needed short game and putting work.  I used to do this practice at least twice a week, but haven't done it since the PNW MGS Meet-up 2 weeks ago.

There was activity on the pitching green as a 4-ball match was getting ready to head out on the course.  So, I found a spot on the putting green and practiced my right-hand-only putts from 4 and 8 feet.  Did pretty well!  Then when the group left, I worked on distance control; 15-20 footers.  That distance was a problem last weekend; better today.  Finally, I took a small bucket of balls to the pitching green where I hit the same shots with LW from 30 yards that I did with my PW during the PlaneMate practice session.  I felt like I had very good control of distance and trajectory.  I will see this weekend if it carries over to the course.  Tee time is 6:50am so should be able to finish before the temp gets too much above 100º.

Just practiced a few Shanks out in the yard.  Told you I should not practice.  Now the doubt has set in… my middle of the summer fall apart happened at the very beginning.  FML.

Hit about half a bucket of balls today over lunch.  Just trying to keep the swing loose as I like what I'm doing right now for the most part.  Playing tomorrow, weather dependent and going to ensure I fully commit to a nice aggressive swing with driver all day.

Also, I cracked the face of my TItliest 818H2 hybrid.  Bought it mint condition from Global Golf earlier in the year and it doesn't get that much use.  Surprised it cracked so quickly.  Sending it in to Titleist tomorrow.  Hopefully I get lucky and they send me a TSi3 head for replacement, but unlikely.

Trying not to get to ball focus.
always looking for a target

Sometimes I will step in front of the ball so I have the target in sight before I set Up to the ball ( especially true when I’m drawing or slicing my irons).
I generally play better when I fade my driver

and this is best done when I focus on a spot in front of the ball where the driver face will swish through

when I focus the back of the ball is when I tend to hook

Full practice this morning.

range first

hit some wedges with planemate and irons to warm up. Still crisp. Then moved to heavy driver work with planemate and then just working on face strike with combos. 5946D1D3-D60A-417F-9F42-B18135F7AC17.jpeg.ff5e0089f6b11e7f833401e116a34ac4.jpeg

filmed my swing. Very OTT. Although with I face strike like above I can play with that.

then putting practice for distance control. Goal just get it to within 3 ft. Success.

then some pitching practice. Got real good with my 58 for 60 yards out with an open face. Nice high spinners. 54 needs some work.

lastly some chipping work. Learned fast I can have an open face in thick clover by the green. Grass just grabs and twists your face even more open. Good morning.

Trying not to get “locked “ on the ball and focus either in front of the ball or slight behind the ball for “swishing “. making sure I swing to my target. Sometimes the outline of the fairway fits my eye and sometimes it doesn’t

Ok. I've been hesitant to post about this because I don't want to jinx it... but it looks like my driver is finally starting to come around.

Two things go into this - 1) a range session with a single digit cap buddy a few weeks back who pointed out I wasn't fully turning in my backswing and wasn't giving myself any room to swing at the ball. Lots of inside backswing practice of turning my shoulders and feeling like my hands are as far away from my head as possible. AND 2) I put an old R1 driver back in the bag. The D7 I have just feels way too light and I feel like I don't know where the head is. This has been an issue since I got it. With the R1, I can feel the head and where it is in the swing.

So today's large bucket at lunch started with wedges and irons before 15 drivers. Of those, one was a worm burner (straight tho!), 2 were fades that would have been salvageable, 3 slight pulls that also would have been playable, and the rest ended in my "fairway" on the range. After that it was back to irons and fairways, then a simulated bunch of holes. Even the bad driver shots would have been playable and not a lost ball penalty. This is now the 3rd range session where I've been feeling progress with the driver. I'll hopefully be playing at least 2-3 rounds over the coming weeks with my brother in town, so fingers crossed I can take this to the course.

Kinda along the lines of practice, wife and I had 2 hr. back to back lessons today. She was working on her irons  and I on my Driver & 5 wood.

It's really annoying when the instructor says  hit a few with the driver so I can see  what's going on and of course I blast three straight down the middle. Hmmm - should I even be here. Well  it didn't take too long before the kinks showed up so we worked on spine angle and extension. Great lessons for both of us.

Monte says that there is no difference between the ones down the middle and the others with kinks.  The difference is that on the good ones, your body did a better job of compensating for the same swing flaws.

Hope you get things worked out.

Not as flexible as I used to be , Making a wide back swing helps create more speed for me, thats the main work for my driver

my iron play is not as good . doesn t feel as good making a wide backswing

The best range session I’ve had all year so far. I’ve really been working with Plane Mate, focusing on my takeaway trying to get it engrained before I move on to backswing. Yesterday I played with my buddy who I play with every week, but he rolled his ankle so we haven’t played in the last couple weeks, he really noticed a change in my ball flight and how consistent I was, I was consistently left but very consistent. I had a few bad lefts as is usual, so today I wanted to get some reps so it feels more natural because it didn’t yesterday, and focus on building my stance after I aim the club face. After the round, the two jumbo max grips arrived and I put them on, and it felt amazing. I have thread going about my jumbomax experience, so I won’t go into the grips too much here. Since the plane mate, I have a noticeable higher ball flight, and much better ball than turf contact. Today I had wind into and off the right which is disaster for me, but today I was starting it right of my target, and it would just softly fall to the left. It’s been about a year since I’ve started working on my full swing, I was a 6 now a 9, and it really felt nice to have that auto pilot feeling again.

First week back swinging the club after a long layoff

Feel like the fade/slice is manageable as long as im conscious of the loop/ arc of the back swing

My normal draw/hook pattern is more symmetric pattern and the degree of right to left seems more related to how closed my shoulders are and how fast my hands are passing though the ball

Jumbo range bucket. Did some planemate work on 58, 7i and then driver. Then hit 20 or so shot with the driver working on strike. Then played a simulated round for the course I play Friday. Helped me with my driver a lot by focusing. Two things I changed were back to the pro orange (44.5”) with added head weight and a more open grip. Ball was hitting nice on the head high center to slightly high heel. Session felt really good. Also put a hole in my divot board.

off now to the putting green and some pitching practice.

My thought exactly. Hopefully you can buy a replacement pad and that they're in stock @rbsiedsc. That Divot Board is just such a great practice tool.

Thanks. I reached out to Bo. Will see if I need to buy one or if he will replace it as a defect.

Good practice session today. Going out of town for 10 days tomorrow. Can’t take my clubs so I’m glad I’m leaving on a good note.

Average driver SS was 98 which is huge for me. I alternated, driver, iron, driver iron - different irons each time for 10 shots.

I was supposed to play in league this evening. One look at the radar said, “No way.” Got to the range at 130, off the putting green at 300.  Out of Starbucks at 315. It was pouring before I made it home at 330.

So now we’re shuffling off to Buffalo for a wedding and Pittsburgh for a ballgame.

Tour Exotics 3 wood is in the bag because we are allowed 14 clubs.  It's a great club for pulling balls out of the water or from bushes - you never want to put your hand into anything in Florida unless you are absolutely certain that it's safe.  There are rare wind conditions when I might hit it off the tee on a few holes that I play.
