What/How did you practice today?

More swing feels. Going well but a lot of repetition to get it to stick.

I am going to give you a little different perspective about the wrist set.  I am sure that there are lots of approaches and thoughts, but Mark Crossfield made a video the resonated with me and helped stop me from trying to cock the wrists too much.  I think it is a great visual on setting the wrists.

I went to the range today after watching this, and it made a huge difference! I had a lot cleaner contact, and a lot straighter shots. Just that feeling of flat lead wrist really helped. Thank you for that! I feel like @sirchunksalot and I are usually working on similar things often

Worked about 45 minutes with short pitch/chips on the practice green.  The green has 2 pins and I would alternate between the pins from various locations (5-20 yards from fringe) and alternating between my 52,56,60 degree wedges.  I'd also vary between high, low, and med trajectory shots with each club.

What's this Monte stuff, Cast A etc? Sounds like it could be beneficial to me to try...

I've attended two of Monte's clinics and it's always a learning experience.  I think he had a clinic scheduled for London this summer, but it got canceled.  He will likely try again next year around the Open.

I have all of his videos; Use the Bounce is awesome for short game, No-Turn Cast and The Efficient Swing are gold.  Very reasonably priced for the information they contain.  I believe Monte has a discount for any video through July with JULY23 code at checkout.

I was going to post this, as I got the notification in my email, you beat me to it. It's a good deal at 30% off.

Monte had a similar offer a couple of years ago when I went to my first clinic, so I bought all available.  When the NTC video came out, it was discounted so I bought that one.  They are a good investment to be able to keep referring back to specific sections.

I will also say that Monte posts a lot of good tips and drills on his Instagram page.  I'm not into social media, but I do follow him just for the info.

I gave him a follow on Instagram and need to go through his archives to see what all he's put out. I was going to do the same on Twitter, but I don't think he's as active over there.

Tour Exotics 3 wood is in the bag because we are allowed 14 clubs.  It's a great club for pulling balls out of the water or from bushes - you never want to put your hand into anything in Florida unless you are absolutely certain that it's safe.  There are rare wind conditions when I might hit it off the tee on a few holes that I play.

Locked down so no golf. Decided to do my usual putting drill with my PuttOut system. Took five try’s to roll 3 through the gate at 3’ after just clipping the left side on the first 2. Put my first from 3’ into the micro target, then my first from 4’.  Lipped out 5 in a row from 5’, then decided to stop while I had things where I wanted. Hopefully be back on course Wednesday.

Just set up the net in the backyard and hit some shots working on a few things since I've got the kids today. Looks like I have a tendency to stand too tall in my setup and that's hard to correct mid-swing. Tried to focus more on setup and hit some shots that felt really good towards the end. Work in progress to say the least.

Couldn’t get out of the sand  totally forgot the feel of bunker shot. Went to review and notice I didn’t wiggle my feet and that locks in my hips and keeps my weight forward. I just practice hitting sand out of the bunker with out the ball and got the feel of chunking sand out using my whole upper body. Not just my hands

I thought I'd be reporting back in the how'd you play thread but the thunderstorms had me change my plans.

I took the Mevo to the range at the course and took data on a few clubs.   I needed to work on consistently compressing the ball and not have it slide up the face losing yardage and missing slightly right.  I got that worked out and started paying attention to the Mevo data on the good hits.  I admit I was skeptical on the yardages thinking they were a little short when I'd flush an 8i and the result was 142 or 144.  I'd feel the beautiful schmush off the Mizzy clubface and think that was 160!!  Only to hear the ball speed and look at the phone to see the 14x number.  😒   These were not range balls either but a box of decent precepts & callaway finds I brought from home.

I thought this thing must be off a bit so I'll head out on a couple holes since the course was mostly empty on the front and laser a couple spots and see what I get.  REALITY is what I got!!

Lasered 140 on two different holes facing opposite directions set up the Mevo and hit 4 balls....two Snell MTB-X and two Prov1's and flushed 3 of 4 at each location and was hole high on the green with those shots matching the yardage reported by the Mevo.  Both misses on the 4th was the same, a pull that was also hole high but left about 30'.  So no difference in the balls for distance, spin, height, feel or results.

I then went to a par 3 and lasered 150 and hit 4 more with the 8 but really going after it.  I hit 2 pulls and 2 pushes and the most I got out of it was about 147 according to the Mevo and the strained feeling in my lower back that I dread.  For self preservation I dialed back to my 85% swing and went to another hole with the 5i lasered at 185......and was ~ 12 yards short per the Mevo data and where the balls landed.....the 5i is my 170 club apparently.

I was going to do some more with the hybrids but the thunder and lightning was moving in and I headed for the parking lot.

The verdict is in.....At my age and the shape I'm in.....I am a 140 yard 8 iron player....on a good day when its 90* and I am really loose.   Maybe now that I have confessed it'll be easier to live with the reality!   🥴     🤣

Been struggling with face control on short to mid range putts so I setup my ExPutt to random putts less than 10 feet and have been hitting putts.   I have also been rolling the ball down a ruler and hitting through gates to provide a different look.   Tweaked a few things with my grip and stroke and I seem to be controlling the face a little bit better when practicing.   Hoping it goes to the course with me.

Went to the range yesterday with the Granddaughter, We had a great time. I struggled for the first 15-20 balls.. WITH a 9 iron, and a wedge.. I was slicing, a 9 iron.. WTH.. Things just felt off. I helped the GD and explained how compressing the ball pops it up in the air.. then stepped back in 1st ball stripped it.. 2nd ball smoked.. It felt good.. broke out the driver and ripped one over the flag at 235 on the fly so after a few more, worked my way through the bag flushing most of the club with a few mishits thrown in to keep me focused. But the whole afternoon was great, got to spend time with my Gd and hit some balls. what more could I ask for.. She goes for her 3rd lesson with a local pro and is playing really well..
