Driving range followed by 9 holes walking with the new Stealth hybrid. Hit it about 8 times total. Those white marks center face are from the range on a short tee and off the mat. On course use was as a rescue, long grass fw bunker etc

I was skimming through YouTube and saw something on generating more swing speed. Today during lunch I worked on my swing speed. For some reason I was getting quick and short in the backswing and not getting a full turn. I didn’t have enough space/time to generate speed on the down swing. Thank goodness for a simulator. I was able to gain 10 mph from where I started and got my distance back up. Amazing once you figure out what you were doing wrong how quickly you can get back on the right track. I think I can get another few mph out of this old body. But tomorrow I’m going to take this to the course and see how this works out.

It’s not so much a quest to gain more but  rather get back what I had at the end of last season (carefully of course).

Worked on some mechanics in the park today. Sun was just right so I could see my shadow on the fence behind me. Basically using it as a swing mirror. Worked on 6i. Slow swings then speeding up a little. Then did some some short pitches (14-25 yards) using a feel I saw taking the club back and then letting it fall. Couple that with rotation and you have a nice club glide for pitches. Need to see if that would work for longer shots (only had ~40 yards of park space). Then moved on to driver, slow swings, then fairway finder, then a little faster. Then back to pitches. Repeated that sequence twice. Prepping for a tournament in one week.

Hit the range for a little over an hour. Started off with wedges and distance control. Then did some target practice. Working on aligning club face and body to target. Finished off with maintaining speed with the driver using PRGR for feedback. Able to maintain 102-104 which is about 10 mph faster than what I finished with last year. Plus I’m down 32lbs doing it!!

I basically do that with all of my wedges. I do each with a full swing and then I do almost full backswing extension but a very relaxed downswing with out the acceleration.  It’s called a dead arm 3/4 swing.  Very easy to execute and repeat and works very well.  Depending on which of my 3 wedges I use, it’s the identical swing and fills at 80, 70 and 60 yards.  Just be mindful that you won’t get very high spin so plan for there to be more runout on the green.

Ya that got me on the course. Thought it would land soft and just did not. Good if hitting into a slope or landing below the hole

Yes, exactly.  But it’s a very easy shot to make, and when I go to the range to practice or play, I pick any one of the 3 ‘set’ wedges and hit a dozen to start the warmup.  It also is easy then to check my mechanics and get in a rhythm of coming inside (I suffer from chronic OTT).  When deciding to use the shot while playing, I do gauge where the pin is but more often than not will use it.

If I’m 20 yds or less, I often use my 4th wedge, a 58* low bounce for more accurate ‘feel’ shots, but only if suitable for the lie (tighter) and terrain.

Heck yeah man, we were there together then. I was there the same years, became friends with a lot of the guys on the team and probably crossed paths with you often. You should try to join us for the Donors Tournament in August! Won it two years ago with a 71 but it has moved to a scramble. It's at the University Course.

I need to check into that, always looking for a good excuse to get to Statesboro.

And I should add for anything between 20-60 yards, I use my set 54* SW. With that club, if I only come back to a 2-3 o’clock position, and again with a relaxed down swing, it fills in at around 35 yards.  If I need more, or less yards, I gauge the backswing and adjust to more or less.  I’ve hit 1000s of these wedges during practice sessions.  What is missing are lower trajectory check up shots.  I used to use my 8i for chips and probably need to start doing that again or maybe a GW.

But until I get delivery of my new JPX clubs (4-5 Wks) I feel I’m in a holding pattern.

Not sure how many of you are familiar with XGolf but it's another simulator company and I bought myself an hour bay rental to work on wedges. I know, wedges on a sim isn't the most accurate form of practice but I really need to dial my 50-70 yard shots. I sat on that bay for 20 minutes hitting 50 yard shots and another 20 hitting 70 yard shots. Doing that really helped me get an idea of club control and it led to me scoring my best round yet over the weekend!

Practicing with woods 3 7 and old driver plus 4 iron, just trying to change up my usual method hoping I can improve my skills for longer shots into the green 🤔

I’m a hacker who loves nothing more than to change how I play, be that grips shafts and heads its all fair game lol…

Tournament prep this week. Today was putting and short game.

Putting. Did around the world drill. Set up tees at 4 spots. Each spot had tees at 3', 6', 9'. You hit 3 balls at 3', then move to next site at 3'. Continue until you get all around. If you miss 3 in a row, you immediately drop down a tee and start over. From 3', goal is to miss three or less total. 6' goal is miss 4 or less. 9' is to get to 50%. Took me about 50 mins to accomplish the end of the game.

After that game, did a tiny bit of mirror work and lag putting.

Once done putting, worked on chipping and short pitches (<30 yards) with 54 and 58. Alternating pitches and chips. Also worked on some awkward lie chips (side hill, mix of fridge/rough, down hill) that gave me troubles of lately.

Thursday the plan is to play a practice round on the range and also get some bunker practice in and longer pitching practice.

Got off the lesson tee about 30 minutes ago, and much to my surprise, the majority of my iron misses were out of the heel today! I have been missing toe big time, but one of the drills we worked on (and one I'll be doing at every practice session) was 20 yard chips. As a criminal early extender, my pro thought this drill would help with a couple things. First and foremost, if I early extend I am thinning it and it's going nowhere. Second, this shot moves the majority of my weight to my front foot and creates starting with some forward shaft lean (i.e. ingredients for good ball striking). Another one I'll be working on is "jumping the fence" with an alignment stick, starting the clubhead on the opposite side of my body and finishing inside the stick. He again said this feel should help me with that heel miss and staying in posture. Just a couple simple drills to work on, but I do think it'll help me. He gave me one more feel to try and find with dry practice swings and I'll be using that daily as well. Overall, a really good session. League starts in 45 minutes so I am now switching to "play golf" mode and not "play golf swing."

League starts in 45 minutes so I am now switching to "play golf" mode and not "play golf swing."

Sounds like you had a good day on the lesson tee, Jason. Hopefully it'll transfer to your round this evening. Hit them well!

Started with some half shots at the range today to work my wedges inside 100 yards then progressed through the bag. Finished with driver. Really having a hard time with the driver going at a target directly in front of my. If I pick anything in an angle it’s fantastic and launched. I really don’t love the baby fade I get playing it straight on however on the angle to the corners the nice baby draw I get is spot on. Worked the club speed on PRGR up to 104 at the same time. Good speed for the end of the day

Today’s practice is Driver 9deg Sim with 6 different shafts, from Ladies 40 gram to Stiff 70 grams and some surprisingly different results. My gamer Mizuno MP Type ll driver with the 40 gram Bassara shaft wasn’t the best, the Sim 9deg with Tensei 60 gram Stiff shaft was…  but I hit the Mizuno last after 80 balls 🏈 next time I start with the Mizuno, enjoying the practice… sorry 😞 should proof read before posting but was in a hurry to meet SWMBO 🤞

Didn’t transfer too well to the course, but I did make a grip and setup adjustment based on the pros recommendation and I implemented it right away tonight. It’ll take a little getting used to but will help in the long run. Before league I was hitting balls very well on the range so that is a positive takeaway. Just need to drill it now and get some good weekly practice sessions to get the feels down!

My swing practice has been helping my overall contact.  I'm better able to shallow the club and hit baby draws.  This is starting to show off in the stats.  From my last round around a par 27.  The driver was up a 40' hill.  Ignore the 5 iron, I used it once and was a miss hit.  Otherwise, I am liking this graph.

Good day of wedge practice.  I had one of the two short game greens to myself this morning and the crowd was fairly light so I got the opportunity to practice from a little longer range than I usually do.  I've been fairly competent with my wedges inside 25 yards lately getting up and down a lot from that range...  outside 25, not so much.   I picked a single flag, set up some tees at 5 & 10 feet then used an alignment stick as a landing target based on how far out I was -- starting from 30 yards then working my way out to 60 before finishing inside 25 with some work on short sided flops.  I mostly focused on playing with trajectories/spin combos and how much rollout I saw with each.  I'm wasn't exactly throwing darts but I was putting a reasonable percentage inside 10 feet.  The highlight of which was at 50  yards where I put 4 inside 5', 1 in the hole, and 5 more inside 10.  I'll take 25% landing inside high percentage 1-putt range and another 25% landing inside maybe 1-putt easy two-putt.  Short side practice was also excellent.  The wedge game may be turning a corner.... it only took two-years, probably ten thousand practice strokes, and a complete swing rebuild.  😆

I took a trip to the range after work today and honestly should have aborted the plan after my wife asked if I could run by the store for some oil to use in cooking tonight. I was riding the entire time I was there and didn't have too good of a range session.

I did hit some good wedges and the hybrids were awesome again. I fell back into old habits with the irons and shanked way too many shots. I finally straightened that out about the time I was hitting my last 5 or so balls. I discovered I was too tense and once I loosened up, I hit some beautiful 7 irons. I'm not going to complain because I at least ended on a high note.

I'm enjoying a little extra distance when I hit those puppies pure.

good morning spy's... when tournament season starts for me I have a tendancy to do a post tournament critique and get sidetracked on occasion on what my long term goals were and start to work on any current fixes I perceive are going on.

After the National championship in september 2022 I wrote down "attack the pin on approach shots" and that was my game plan through the winter and into spring. Of course I moved away from that and am now refocused.

Yesterday I started working on my scoring irons 7 through PW to attack the flags and targets so that is what I am practicing now and will stick with for the rest of the season. I have a session with my coach on June 8th to focus on my scoring irons so that will be good.

Can you provide more detail on your attacking flags strategy?
