Thanks, Jason! Was good to just feel some good strikes and some progress. Gonna make it a regular routine thing to keep me in check and hopefully it’ll lead to more consistent good ball striking

I think it's a good drill that gets you to focus externally instead of getting caught up in focusing internally to try and figure out what your doing.

I honestly enjoy these drills.

Spent a few hours at Raven Crest GC today. Opened with a session on the range then followed up with chipping and putting. Weather was fairly windy so there was a fair bit of dust kicking around but overall, it was just nice to be outside. Hoping to play a round at some point next week to kick the season off properly🤞

My favorite type of practice when I have limited time is to chip and putt on the practice greens. I have found so much improvement from doing this.. plus it helps me clear my head!

Getting very comfortable chipping and worked more off tight lies with the 50/54/58 today. 50 degree is my go to for low, bump and run type check-up shots from under the hole. Anything with a bit of elevation I go to 54 but my local chipping green only has 2-3 feet of rise, so I'll still try to hit the 58 as if there's a bunker in the way without opening the face at all. I think the only way to get good at chipping is to suffer through blading off of somewhat tight lies. Once you learn to trust it, the margin of error gets lower and lower over time.

I have Rick Shiels to thank for it. His introducing me to Dan Grieves and a new way to confidently chip has been a game changer.

Overcast day today, with some rain predicted for a little later so practice at home.

Chipping: Practiced chipping motion with my 50* then 58*.  My basic chip shot is similar to Derek Deminsky's "low shot" and Dan Grieves "release 1" started with an open stance and trying to keep the arc consistent. I hit about 10 3-5 yard carry shots with each club, focusing on technique; i.e. block practice.

Putting: Broomstick method with the Pendragon XL; did the PuttOUT gauntlet (best score yet of 13/20) and ten putts through a putting gate set at 18" in front of the ball (9/10).

90 minute session today

25 mins on chipping and some pitching. Tried the steep mayo method and really struggled. Went back to my toe down approach, which I am also still steep, and was much more consistent.

25 mins on putting. My SG to start the year is better than last but still my worst metric. Did some around the world drill (with distances increasing at each ball like a snail shell) with different breaks. Practiced like on course. Then worked on some lag putting, first trying to make ones on the ladder drill. Then picking two different distances and doing 7 balls each. First ball was long, 2nd short. The rest try to finish between them. Last was an extended ladder drill going from 10’ to 60’.

Last 40 mins on range. Working on NTC feels as my backswing is too long and my hips get out of sync. Also standing more upright is something I am working on. Slow swings then full speed with tempo app. Then slow speed. And then tempo. Also mixed in some feels on a diy shift board. Then some ground contact on divot board. Then some experimentation with 7i, 5i, DI with different ball positions and then diff ball positions choked down. Then some block practice with longer clubs (uw,4w and driver). Great session.

I haven't been hitting the driver well so I took some time to sort through that today. I have been bottoming out a lot which led me to get really good with my 3W off the tee.

What ended up working for me was setting up the ball towards the front of my stance like normal but then standing up straighter with no right side lean and positioning the club head in the middle of my stance at address since its the low point of my swing. I ended up making really good and consistent contact with the center of my club face. I had more balance and felt like I could put more power into it without forcing it.

This might not work for everyone but being 6'4 its the most comfortable I felt driving in a while.

Haven't had a chance to hit balls very much this past month. After playing so well and practicing so much in January, I got sick in March and had a really tough time getting rid of a cough. That being said, I went from palying some of the best golf in my life, to a month of playing some of the worst. Played once a week for the past 6 weeks and have been really frustrated. Getting in my own way mostly making many mental errors that I can't remember making for a long time. Not swinging consistently either and not committing to the shots.

I chalk this up to really not feeling well and being on medication, a steroid and antibiotics for most of the month.

I was up at 4:30 today, worked from 5:45am - 1:00pm and had a chance to hit a 30 ball bucket at the range after work. Simply working on contact and firing my hips. Hit 5, 8 & A irons. Had a good stretching session before striking a ball. Finally a beautiful afternoon, with full warm sun hitting me square in the face!

Results were decent. I'm teeing it up first thing in the morning, 6:30 (first group of the day), so I wanted to get some swings in before going out cold. The range most certainly won't be open that early tomorrow. Need to get up around the same time and do an even more comprehensive stretch and use the seat warmer in the car to make sure I arrive ready to play. Should only be about 6 degrees Celcius in the morning, so will have to layer up.

Course is 10 days post-punch so I'm not expecting anything for a score, just going to concentrate on hitting fairways and greens and see how it comes out.

Day 95 (18 Apr 24) ….Trail arm only drill with the LW…focused on letting the club drop, engaging the bounce and letting the club pop the ball up….wrapped up by repeating drill with both hands on the club…

Didn't practice much outside of speed training. Was a slightly slower session than my previous but still solid and then I ended up taking apart some golf clubs as I have some work to do to rebuilt a few sets.

By far my favourite and most effective way to practice putting. The putting mirror is extremely helpful for my alignment, I also use the putting gates to help with starting the ball on line. (Also, here is my sanded Jailbird. currently doing a DIY customization.)

Since I was up since zero dark wtf, I decided to hit the Practice areas before GC duties began.

Focus today was sand shots, and over bunker shots. (Which i do not practice enough of!!!)

Hit about 30 balls plus a dozen extra shots with the mindset balls.  Then about 20 putts with the mindset balls.

Sw and 60⁰ were the clubs.

Hardest part was my SW as it has A very thick sole and I was fatting a bunch of shots to the right.   Then I remembered about acceleration from the top instead of rhe bottom of the swing and it clicked. 60⁰ was easier as it's a very open faced and thin sole.

Here are some glamours shots...20240419_065253.jpg.b3b86c1929af1f62c6280fef6ebc4361.jpg20240419_065308.jpg.39ab3098f4224750576153b2099da986.jpg20240419_070957.jpg.35bd0aa3ff2a169bd07a3fb47d6dc272.jpg20240419_071508.jpg.731cd08e400c6917e22db5e4ce06a665.jpg20240419_071527.jpg.66e4fd02ffc7c1c89ac079ef71b456a1.jpg

Got another practice session in last night in the garage with continued success and progress on getting back to center face impact. One modification I made was taking the inside tee out of the “gate” drill as I felt like I was trying to miss that one and kept clipping the outer tee, effectively eliminating the benefit of the drill with my shank issue. As soon as I did that, it was smooth sailing. Kept it to about 30 minutes and finished on three consecutive flushed shots with no tee to try and simulate a bit closer to on course situations.

One other thing I did was take advantage of a free swing analysis from a coach on Skillest. Not the same one I found the gate drill from, but was extremely beneficial. He did a 9 minute breakdown of a swing I had where I shanked a ball badly and one where I hit it flush. I was not able to find differences in the two swings to self analyze, but he pointed out subtle things that I did differently that made all the difference in the result of the swing. I focused on a couple things he mentioned (didn’t give any drills but that’s ok as it was an analysis and not a full lesson) and it helped a lot. I may end up doing a full month of lessons with him in May as it was super beneficial.

If you’re a visual learner like me, the video breakdowns with voice over are awesome.

Gonna keep working at it and if the weather allows, get on the outdoor range this afternoon or play a practice round.

Today I went to a nearby range which also has a pitch and putt course. At the range I worked on wedges, 9i, 7H, 5W and Driver. I was able to video (DTL only) each club, which I will study over the weekend and forward to Kirk Junge for comment. I also used my PRGR launch monitor to check carry distances with each club. It was the first time I hit the 7H, so it was really useful to learn its carry distance (110 to 115 yards) as I expect it to be useful for 125 +/- approach shots.  As anticipated, the trajectory of my 7H is much higher than that of my 7i, so it should hold the green better.

The pitch and putt is really more of a short game practice area with several target greens (which were in really poor condition, BTW) and a practice bunker, than a golf course. I did some chipping, followed by pitches from 25, 40 and 50 yards from the green.  Of the 22 shots from 40 to 50 yards, 17 hit the green and stayed, three hit the green, but rolled off the back and 2 came up short.

All-in-all, it was a really worthwhile practice session!

Update. Was an absolutely stunning morning. Started at 6 degrees but quickly warmed so that I took layers off.

Hit 8/13 Fairways, missing 2 others by a couple feet.

Hit 9 Greens, missing 3 others on the fringe.

28 putts, no 3-putts.

Shot 75.

Small incremental improvement. Need to work on my short game, though not off by much. Need some reps to get sharper.

I tee it up with the defending Senior Club Champion this Sunday. Will be fun to see how our games match up. He's definitely in my sights for later this summer!

Here's to better days!

Day 96 (19 Apr 24) - Played in the Friday Men's group today.  While I shoot 82, it was a pretty solid round with 10 pars, 5 bogies and 3 doubles.  I really hated the doubles - but each one was followed by a par come back, so "accepting" the number has really begun to pay off and not letting it get to me on the following hole in thinking "I have to get that stroke back".  Was also "on course test day" for the Bridgestone Tour B RX ball...will be posting on the "unofficial" page as how it fared/performed (pretty doggone well), also with a quick blurb as it worked the green with the AI One Milled 7 DB putter "Millie", the INDI wedges, and the Edel SMS 7i- I"ll be posting comments about each in those respective threads...a good day of golf....
