BigtazzGolf
Do you guys see a difference in recycled vs refinished golf balls? Found an old article, http://site.rockbottomgolf.com/scratch-the-cavemans-blog/2013/01/23/recycled-and-refinished-golf-balls-whats-the-difference/ It got me thinking. I've played both and really don't see a difference except in the money spent towards them vs new. What do yall think? silver & black
I've played both and I can't tell a difference either. I usually buy the recycled because they are cheaper.... and I don't mind logos or scuffs here and there. Brand new balls look just like them after a few holes anyway. Kenny B
Many years ago when I was an 18-20 hcp, I routinely bought recycled balls and never noticed a difference. I probably couldn't tell now either, but I've gotten used to playing new balls. I don't lose as many as I used to, and I like pulling a new ball out of a sleeve. If I hadn't found the Snell MTB and Get Sum balls at a reasonable price, I might still be playing them. FYI, here is the quote from Dean Snell in the "Quo Vadis" thread: "The second chance balls are typically balls that have been pulled from a pond or water holes.. they are sometimes cleaned and sold as is, and sometimes covers are attempted to be re molded or re painted to make look new.. There are a few concerns here. If the balls have been in the water for a long time, they will start to absorb water, and gain weight. This can do two things.. make the balls slower in ball speed, and also possibly make them illegal by being over the USGA weight limit. We all try to make the legal balls to the weight limit, so it does not take much to make them over the limit if sitting in pond for a long time. When new covers or new paint is applied, then all the aerodynamics are lost as there can be too much paint and flood the dimples and cause weird flights. As for the X-0uts that are sold by the companies as true xouts, these could be from various reasons where they failed some spec in the process.. maybe too light.. maybe too heavy... maybe cosmetic defects.. maybe out of core specs, out of compression specs, etc.. you do not know as they all get lumped into one group and sold as a dozen." “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
PlaidJacket
Tazz I've played both before. I bought a doz. PV1 refinished a couple of years ago and they played just fine. IcemanYVR
I'll take good condition recycled over refinished any day. The covers are so much more durable. The refinished balls scuff up and the paint peels so quickly it's not worth it. chershey
I just can't do it. As someone who's spent way too much time getting my clubs to the best specs for my game through fitting and tinkering, so I can't blame the equipment when I'm playing poorly, I can't handle the thought of using recycled balls and wondering if they are costing me distance or spin. The balls are as important to me as any piece of equipment in my bag. Luckily there are tons of deals right now on my favorite ball, the Srixon Z-Star XV, so it's not an issue. 808nation
Recycled = scuffed up or logo balls that's washed and cleaned. Refinished = painted recycled balls. Both play reasonably well, unless they were water balls for a long period of time. I prefer recycled over refinished balls any day, because refinished balls can peel sometimes. BIG STU
I use recycled balls some depends on what I am doing. If playing for the heck of it I use recycled. If playing some of my money matches I use new. For a while I was using a softer ball either the Srixon Soft Feel or the Bridgestone Treo Soft but due to me loosing weight and my flexability getting better my swing speed increased so I am back to the Pro V 1 or X or the Srixon Z or Q star. The soft balls are cheap enough new @ 19.00 a dozen or so. I have a deal going with a buddy of mine who deals in used balls I get either Pro Vs or Z Stars 18 for $15 grade "A". Of course I do some club deals with this guy so it all works out I do not mess with refinished or refurbished balls period. If you look closely the dimples will not be even due to refinishing and I have had some funky flights with those balls in the past. I have also been told that there are some out there marked like Pro V that are other cheaper balls with decals. Shankster
I usually buy used AAAA or AAAAA. No sense in paying full price for a box of brand new balls. Once you hit them once they're used anyways. And at about 45% cheaper than new... can't be beat. I just lose them anyways. Won't do refurbished though. Got 36 Taylormade Tour Preferred's from the mother in law... perfect for back yard practice. Not for on course use, unless I'm fresh out of "good" balls. I've found really good quality stuff from one place, and really poor quality from another. If I'm playing for $ I usually buy a new sleeve or 2 in the pro shop. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
HighFade
I bought a dozen refurbished ProV1's once. It was a poor job at bestoif refurbishing. They were all off balance. Street11
As a long time user of Bridgestone 330 golf ball, I looked into that site lostgolfballs.com and the refinished ones. Bought 5 dozen about in October and for an update I have noticed no difference in distance or spin, the cover however is slightly less durable. Will I buy another 60?
