THE ONE AND ONLY KIRKLAND SIGNATURE BALL THREAD

Recommended Posts

Got my first eagle of the year with one of these last week. I think it is the equal of any of the premium balls. If only it came in yellow... It could compete with my beloved Z-star's.

I'll try them out tomorrow. If I like them most likely I'll buy another 2 dozen before they sell out. Between those and my On Core balls I should be set for 2018 at least.

I played the Kirkland 3-piece ball today.  Weather was crappy; rained all morning, then sunny and windy in the afternoon.

  • The ball is made in China, not Korea like the original Ksig.
  • The ball feels soft off all clubs... no click.
  • Doesn't spin as well, but I don't put much spin on the ball anyway.
  • Distance seemed about the same is less than the 4-piece Ksig.
  • The cover looked new after 18 holes; definitely tougher than the original Ksig.

I like the original better.

EDIT:  The original 4-piece ball goes further with my slow 85 mph swing speed.

Maybe we should start a new thread for the 3-piece, as they are different balls. I am very interested in the performance of the 3-piece...

4 dzn 4-piece are en route.

As for the 3 piece, after reading the description on the Costco website, it looks like maybe they're also a lower compression? Of course there are no compression specs so it's hard to know exactly what "lower" means. I realize that the compression claims are all very subjective. I've personally been able to compare a few different higher and lower compression balls on a launch monitor and for whatever it's worth, have found a loss of about 2-4 mph ball speed and 8-12 yds with low compression balls (

From Costco

"The low compression highly elastic rubber core provides a soft feel with high speed, while the 338-dimple pattern provides a penetrating ball trajectory."

After playing the 3-piece ball today on a nice , semi-windless day, I will have to amend my first review.

It is definitely softer than the 4-piece ball.  The distance is less than the 4-piece ball with my 85 mph swing speed.  It balloons up higher and thus has less rollout.

I wouldn't compare it to any Titleist but I haven't played anything but the PV1.  However, it seemed to be similar to the Wilson Duo, which didn't fly well for me either.

I am still playing the 3-piece ball that I started with on Saturday, so it now has 54 holes on it and it still looks new.  That doesn't seem right!  Every other tour quality ball that I have played looks "used" after 18 holes.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hoping to snag 4-6 dz, I had 3 female Costco acquaintances prepared for the last K-sig release. They all managed to purchase the max. So along with the 2 dz leftover from the previous release, I added 12 dz new pearls to my inventory. As someone who averages ~1 ball per round, feels like I suddenly have a lifetime supply.

I received my Kirkland 3 layer balls - marked “performance +”. Label says “made in China. Paid $15 per doz including tax and shipping. Played 18 with the new model - GREAT BALL.

Conditions - temp low to mid 60's, wind 10 to 15mph.

On the practice green, ball would check on 10 yard chips, nice feel off the putter and useful alignment line.

Full shots - soft feel off the club face, wind produced expected effect on ball flight - nothing like suggested in pod cast. Driver distance just fine. Short irons and wedges checked nicely. 8 iron tee shot stopped dead ( 3 inches ) where it hit on a firm Bermuda green. 80 yard wedge - one hop.

Any chance you could hit a launch monitor? Also, I'm curious about your numbers- swing speed, avg drive, 7 iron distance, etc... Anything would be much appreciated!

It's an OK ball for me, but I like the 4-piece ball better.  I could certainly learn to play it, and the price is great.  The 3-piece ball is definitely a softer feel.  The biggest positive for this new ball is it is indestructible.  I played 3 rounds with one ball and it still looked good.  The 4-piece ball starts looking worn after one round.

I found a spotless Kirkland signature Sat and played it alongside my normal B330 RXS and a Snell MT Red I was testing. It wasn't as long as either the B330 or Red. I'm sure it fits certain swings differently, but it was noticeably not as good for. I really liked the Red though, just not sure which I like better, Red or Black.

How is the ball holding up in terms of durability?  I purchased 2 dozen of them last year just to test because why not at that price?!  I went to a par 3 course that I knew by heart to test it against my ball Srixon Z-Star because short game is what makes or breaks a ball for me.

The thing that I noticed instantly was that after 3 holes the cover was starting to show signs of wear.  I even hit 2 of the 3 greens, so the ball only had 4 shots on it (not counting the putts).  The first 3 holes were only 60 yards, 120 yards, and 75 yards.  By the end of the round, the ball looked like I continually bounced it off the cart path.

Overall the ball performed well, but I didn't think it out played my Z-Star.  Also, looking at how bad the ball was damaged by the end I didn't think the price made up for how many rounds I would be able to use the ball.

I have 6 rounds in now with the 3 piece Costco Ball. I play one round a week at a low lying course that has several holes that no matter how much rain we have had, the fairways are pretty wet.. I play a second round at THE best draining course in the area. Because both rounds are played in the early mornings, conditions are always a little damp..... for context. It's also been fairly cold but that seems to be behind us now. Half of the rounds have been played in warm temps.

I find the ball to be fairly straight off the tee on good contact. I found it more difficult to create a draw than with the ProVx I normally play. It's definitely not as long. Mid-irons were fine and wedges rolled out more than I expected, a lot less spin. It's very durable. There were hardly any blemishes on the surface. This is a good ball for a middle of the road swing speed. 90-105 with the driver. This isn't an elite ball. It's a Titleist Velocity, Srixon S-star or a Calloway Super Soft.  If you're going to be trying to work the ball and spin it, you're still looking for a Calloway Chrome or Titleist ProV.

Rounds per year: 80-90.

Handicap: 11.6

In my Bag:

Driver - Taylormade SLDR (Adjusted 1/2 to the draw side and 8* loft)

Fairway Woods: 3 & 5 Taylormade SLDR

Irons 4-AW: Taylormade M2 (2016)

Wedges: Volkey SM6 56* and SM7 60*

Balls: ProVx - preferred, Calloway Chrome second.

Holes in one: None  ;)

Albatross: ONE!  :D

Eagles: Many

Favorite golf slogan: It's a target game, not a distance game.

OUT OF STOCK AGAIN

https://www.costco.com/Kirkland-Signature-4-piece-Urethane-Cover-Golf-Ball%2c-2-dozen.product.100310467.html

I bought 4 dozen in the fall but didn't get them into play until last week. Started the season Birdie, Birdie with the Kirkland ball so I am SOLD! Just bought 4 dozen more.

MyGolfSpy podcast now believes these 4-piece balls are part of a single original run that is being brought to market periodically. They also believe they will never be manufactured again (I've also heard from friends in Snell that Nassau will never do this again).

Reminder: these are completely different from the newer 3-piece Kirkland ball which the podcast did not have kind things to say about.
