Team Titleist and Pinehurst

Golfspy_CG2

Recommended Posts

Been a bit inactive the past week. I was lucky enough to get to attend the TeamTitleist Invitational at Pinehurst last week.

We played No.4 and No.2 and spent a lot of time demoing the new 917 line as well as some short game testing with the SM6 and ProV1 and ProV1 x

First wet of pics are from Day 1 on No.4. Not a ton of time to take pics that day as The pace was very fast.

My personalized bag was perfect for this trip

Day two brought the much anticpated round on No.2 with a couple pics from inside the clubhouse

A look at the 18th green shows a bit of the Donald Ross design

That house is Literally a half wedge from the 4th green.

My only birdie look off the day. I missed it sadly enough but I didn't three putt. So that was good.

This is the 8th green from the spot where John Daily took about 3 tries to get on the green and failed and finally swatted the ball away and walked off the course in 2005.

And because you just can't leave No2 without the obligatory pose with Payne Stewart

Thanks. I have one on order and thank goodness for a full fitting as the head, loft and shaft that I was fit for are not even close to what I thought would work best for me.

Looking forward to getting it and the 3w in Just about a week.

Been there my friend. Awesome place. All of it. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I've been to a lot of places in this great country and Pinehurst - Southern Pines is by far one of; if not my favorite place. Besides great golf all around I found the people and hospitality/friendliness they inherently possess a major feature. And not just in touristy areas and club houses. Everywhere. I'll be returning sooner rather than later.

This was probably my 7th or 8th trip overall but first since the renovation to number 2. Heck one of trips I even took by myself. During that trip I played just one round but spent one entire day on the grounds of the main clubhouse without playing. I took 2 hour lesson, practiced on the ramge and short game area for a couple h ours.

But the coolest part was spending about 4 hours on the veranda just watching groups come in and play 18. I met so many people that came up and sat next to me in one of the rockers for 20 minutes or so at a time.

You are so right about the friendliness and hospitality of eveyone you run into in the entire town. It truly is my favorite place in the world to go to.

What kind of condition was #4 in? It was basically shut down when I was there in August. Disease on the greens and we got moved to #6.

Overall, I really liked 8 & 9. Disappointed in 2, and gut punched we couldn't play 4.

Well the night before we played 4, there was 5 inches of rain 11pm to 5 Am. It was a constant thunderstorm all night.

I fully expected them to tell us we weren't going to be playing. Our tee time did get pushed back from 8:30 to 9:30 and there was a little bit of standing water in some bunkers. But all in all I have played much worst conditions with a lot less rain.

Even if you take the rain out of it. It was in very good shape, except for one green (no 13) definitey looks like some disease or something got to that one.

As for 2. I had not liked what I saw of it during the 2014 Open. I thought they had ruined the look of it. But seeing and playing it person, I came away very much impressed and it's still my favorite course I've played.

Yep. Sure was. They posted it on the TT Website in about July. My understanding is it filled up (72 spots) in about 3 or 4 days.

They didn't say anything officially but one of the staff members I had dinner with indicated a return to Pinehurst in 2017 is very possible.

The resort laid out the Welcome Mat justvas much as Titliest did.

I lived in Raleigh for 20 years and we had a group go down Pinehurst way every year. One of my favorite courses there was Tobacco Road which I think someone mentioned here. That my friend is a shot makers course. Need to hit fairways and greens on every shot. If you don't you better be a good iron player out of waste bunkers

When your round is done, your head is spinning and asking yourself "Who just punched me?" Then the next question is, "When are we coming back?"

Love Tobacco Road. We played it every year on our trip down there. Like you said a course you just want to come back and play again right away.

It ranged from $999 to $1199 depending on if you stayed in The Carolina Hotel or Manor Inn and if you had a single or shared room.

Included the two rounds 2&4 plus

2 nights hotel

Welcome Cocktail Reception, Breakfast and lunch each day, two dinners

Plus the SWAG bag Titleist gave everyone had to be at least a $200 value.

Plus we got to hit the 917 line before it's release, everyone got two sleeves of Test Balls plus a few ball and wedge clinics.

Really was an action packed 2.5 days and just about everyone there wanted to pay for 2017 event on the spot. Ha

If the release schedule follows suit next years could involve the 718 AP line
