Orange Hog's WITB

This is my current set up but it'll soon be getting a little updating...as soon as my Srixon Z 65 irons arrive!

Driver - Taylormade M2, 9.5 degrees, Graphite Design Tour AD BB-6 X shaft

Fairway Wood - Taylormade M2, Fujikura Speeder Evo 757 Tour Spec

I LOVE my M2 driver and fairway wood.  The shaft is a bit of a recent experiment so I'm a bit TBD on the results since I've only got 2 rounds under my belt with it.  That said, these bad boys are long, forgiving and easy to hit.

Hybrid - Tour Edge Exotics CB Pro U, 19 degrees, Kuro Kage 80H

Hands down the best hybrid I've ever put into the bag.  Very hot off the face, great design and I love the matte crown.  However, my favorite characteristic on this hybrid is the sole.  I've hit this thing out of deep rough, hard pan, old divots, and even fairway bunkers.  It performs so incredibly good out of anything I've thrown at it, plus its forgiving and long - did I mention long because it's LONG.

Irons - Srixon Z 45 series

4-Iron (Z 545), Steelfiber i95 Stiff

5 thru 7 Iron (Z 745), Project X PXi 5.5 (hard stepped)

8 thru PW (Z 945), Project X PXi 5.5 (hard stepped)

Been gaming these for over a year now and it'd take a miracle for me to walk away from Srixon at this point.  Love everything they have built into these irons from the soft forging to the overall looks to the incredible V sole.

I went with a blended set for a few reasons.  First, the 4 iron is easy to hit and offers a little more "chunk" (not really an accurate term) as a crossover from my hybrid and into the 745 players cavity irons.  I prefer to the 95g shaft, as well, so I can use it as an option off the tee and generate a bit more club head speed.

The 745 irons are incredibly well designed golf clubs.  I'm generally pretty consistent in striking the center of the club face so I felt like the players cavity suited me better than going with the 545s, plus I love the slightly slimmer top line.  That said, I still get a decent bit of forgiveness on mishits with these irons.

The 945 irons are simply amazing.  For blades they aren't nearly as intimidating to hit as I initially expected.  In fact, I've let a few of my buddies hit them and they were floored at how easy they are to hit and how ridiculously soft they feel on impact.  Personally, I went with these over the 745s because I wanted to feel more control in my scoring irons and that's precisely what I get.

Wedges - Vokey SM6

50 degree F grind

54 degree M grind

58 degree TVD K grind

These are a relatively new addition to my bag.  Previously I had the Cleveland RTX 2 wedges and had to dump them as I didn't love the feel.  Really enjoying the heck out of the Vokey's a TON.  The feel is insanely good and the amount of spin I'm getting off these is unlike anything I've ever seen before.

Putter - Scotty Cameron Select M2

My first round with this putter over the summer was a tournament and I won my handicap group and the overall tournament (net score) by like 5 shots, so it was pretty much love at first putt.  Still very much enjoying this putter.  Great distance control, love the feel off this new insert, and the + alignment aid on the back is so simple.

Bag - Nike Hybrid II

PIcked up this bag a couple of weeks before NIke announced they were closing up shop and couldn't be happier that I did so.  I'm a little OCD and prefer to have a 14-way divider, but there aren't a ton of carry/stand bags out there that offer this as an option.  This bag fit the bill on all fronts - light weight, great looks, tons of storage, and the 14-way divider.  Hopefully this one lasts me many, many years because it'll be a painful parting when it finally dies.

Updates coming soon...

I've got the Srixon 65 series irons on order currently and expect them to arrive any day now.  I went with the same set make up as the 45 series irons presently in my bag with a tweak to the shafts.  I went with the Steelfiber 110 in the 4-iron and KBS Tour V 110 in the 5 thru PW.  I found my club head speed to be the same with the Steelfiber 110 as the 95 so I wanted something a bit more uniform with the other irons.  As for the KBS shafts, I played these in a spare set last year and loved them.  While I like the PXi I've been wanting to switch back to the Tour V's for a while now and this presented a good opportunity, so we'll give it a shot.

Also, despite my love for the Vokey's, I'm considering a move to the Cleveland RTX-3 wedges.  I need to demo them first because I want to see if the feel truly improved as they've been marketing them.  With my RTX 2 wedges I found that I mostly hit the center to toe area on the face.  According to what I read, those were built more for center to heel, which would explain why the feel was off for me.  If the RTX-3 perform and feel like they are saying then I'll be putting them in the bag in a 48, 52, 58 degree set up.  Still TBD on that front.

Srixon absolutely hit a home run IMO when they released the Z 45 series irons a couple years ago.  I've yet to hit the new Z 65 irons but should have them in hand this week.  That aside, the feel is superb and the cost is pretty reasonable, particularly when you've got mainstream OEMs now jacking up prices well above $1000 for a set of irons.  I got my set of Z 65's for well under a grand.  Good luck finding anything of this quality for that kind of price!

As for the TEE hybrid, they may or may not be for everyone but I know that it works dang well for me.  My local golf shop has been talking up TEE for years and I finally decided to take a leap this year and try one out.  This thing will be in my bag until I smash a hole in it.

I've tried the TEE drivers and fairway woods and didn't particularly care for them as much, though.

My 4-iron is my crossover club between the hybrid and my cavity back irons and I've found that the steelfiber is a nice blend as a shaft option, as well.  Gives me a bit more club head speed and a bit more confidence when standing over the ball with a long iron.

Personally, I love the shaft/head combo in that 4-iron spot.  It's been a great club for me thus far.

I've got some time with the new 65 series irons under my belt and I'm really loving these bad boys!  Not 100% sure about the 4-iron though.  I don't see to be striking it as well as my 545, which I still have in the garage.  The 545 might be going back into my bag for a little while, particularly as I've got a couple of tournaments coming up where I'll need to be on point with that club.

Biggest different in the 565 vs 545 is the topline seems a little slimmer and the sole is definitely slimmer.  I like a little bit of 'beef' in the 4-iron because it adds some confidence, which I need in a longer iron.  Aside from that I'd say everything that Srixon updated in the 65 series irons is absolutely awesome!

I also added the Cleveland RTX-3 wedges to my bag last week.  I'll get some pics up in here so you guys can check those out.  I've only got a couple of range sessions and one round under my belt with them but wow...they are markedly better than the RTX 2.0 wedges IMO.  Definitely don't spin as much as my SM6 wedges but that's sort of a good thing for me.  I spin the heck out of my irons/wedges and I found the SM6 to hop and suck WAY back on approach shots.  The RTX-3 is hop and stop, which I really prefer.  Feel is much improved, as well.  And I'm not sure what sorcery is in the black finish but after a couple of range sessions and 18 holes I can't see a single blemish anywhere on them.

A few updates to the golf bag recently...

First, the love affair with the M2 fairway wood is slowly coming to a halt and possibly dying all together.  Don't get me wrong, this thing is stupid long.  I just couldn't find the accuracy and consistency that I need from a fairway wood in the M2, though.  Probably more me than the club but it is what it is.  So, I've decided to bag the F6 Baffler and dialed down the loft to 16 degrees.  I've got the Project X HZRDUS Black shaft in it, which is freaking awesome.  The shaft length does play a bit shorter than the M2 and other traditional fairway woods, but this thing just works for me.  Easy to hit off literally any lie and it's just so consistent.  If I need to hit a fairway or get to a green in two I never find myself questioning this thing coming out of the bag.

Second are the wedges.  I decided to give the RTX-3 a break for a while and go back to my Vokey SM6's.  The feel of the Vokeys compared to the RTX-3 is superior IMO and I love the spin and control I get from them, which was really the catalyst for the switch.  Plus the 58* TVD K Grind wedge is seriously the easiest thing I've ever hit out of a bunker in my entire life.

Lastly, I changed my putter to the EVNROLL ER2 and am also gaming the Kirkland golf ball.  Still getting used to the ER2, as I've only had it in play for a few rounds now but I think this could be the putter I've been searching for.  Love the feel, distance control and looks.  Awesome all around and I've been putting really consistently with it.  As for the ball, Kirkland is all you've heard it hyped to be.  Love this ball and i'm going to play it for as long as they make this bad boy.

Two final additions to my bag for 2017.

First is the Cobra F6 Baffler fairway wood.  I've actually had this FW for several months now but decided that the M2 wasn't for me and gave the F6 and shot.  It was almost love at first swing!  The rails are so pure on this fairway wood and I feel like I can do pretty much anything with this in the bag, which is a massive comfort with a 3 wood.  Went with a Project X HZRDUS Black 85g shaft and this combo is just a bomber.

Final addition came in today...my custom Edel E-3 putter.  After a lot of research I decided to go through a fitting and pull the trigger.  I've never been so excited about putting a new putter in my bag before!

That's it folks.  My bag is all set for 2017 and for the first time in my life I can legitimately say I'm really at peace with every single club in the bag.  I've been getting in some solid practice lately, too, which is great because tournament season is firing back up in a few weeks.  Time to go do some work!!

Pics of the new Edel putter...

I can't foresee ever getting rid of it to be honest.  I've never had much trouble hitting a fairway wood but, like some folks, the occasional "fat" shot creeps in there and sends the ball bounding 30 yards in front of me (and me cursing myself as I walk back to the cart).  I've yet to have that issue with the F6 Baffler.  In fact, I caught one fat last week and every guy in my group commented how amazed they were the distance I got with it.  It was chunky but the rails helped keep it moving through the shot.  Not as long, of course, but I had a flip wedge left in versus a 4-iron, which I'll take any day.  When well struck it goes a mile, too.  It's set on the lowest loft (16*) yet it goes every bit as far as my old 3 wood, which was a couple degrees lower.
