Wedges all the same length?

Recommended Posts

Quasi DeChambeau topic but would like to hear some thoughts about having all wedges in your bag the same length. Or at least 2-3 wedges.

Personally this year I've been playing all the same length from 60 deg to Gap, Mizuno S5 wedges. My PW is longer. This way my swing "feels" the same. Sometimes I choke down. But I can't imagine the benefit for example of having a 60 deg wedge 1/4" shorter than a 56 deg.

The reason I'm asking I'm also reviewing some wedges for MGS which are all same length and I may incorporate some comparisons with clubs of

different lengths.

I changed my 50, 55 and 60 wedges to all be the same length and like the consistency. I got the idea from Big Stu on here.

I'm interested in demoing the single length irons when cobra launches them in January (no other of the handful that do it are available to demo that I know of) and like the concept, but i think it'll be weird to have the wedges be all the same length as the others, but hey, whatever helps.

I've been doing this since I built my first set about 3 years ago. My PW-60 were all the same length. I like it because I tend to hit more full shots with my wedges.

The renegar wedges I have are all the same length they were about 10-8 yds in gaps whereas my other set with the same lofts were about 12-15 yds apart. Not bad but I don't like to grip down

I'm all for whatever helps you shoot lower scores.  If that's the same length wedges then go for it!

At the end of the day length of a club is just another parameter of fitting and gapping.  Especially in the short end of the bag, do whatever it takes to get the gaps and yardages that will allow you to shoot the lowest score.

That's right someone did listen to me.  Also like Fireinthehole said the Renegars did come in the same lengths. I have been playing the same lengths in wedges for years

I've only had one set of wedges at the same length and I liked them a lot. When I went away from the Callaway wedges to the Cleveland RTX 2.0, Cleveland said they couldn't make them all the same length due to the shaft I chose... Not sure if it was because of the steps in the shafts or what, so ever since I just have had them at +1".

If I use the same shaft as my irons do the shafts for the wedges have to be heavier version?

You may find that the answer is as in most golf answers,,,,, it depends. As golfers we are weird in our approach to the game. Fitting is no different. I am sure you have good reasoning for heavier, same and lighter weights for shafts.

Tradition would tell you heavier is the game call. However what if your shafts are the heaviest already,,,,,,, see what I mean...

All that said I prefer to fit to heavier shafts about 10 - 20g heavier. as a norm

Hi,

I've been wanting to experiment with getting the wedges to be same length as well but have not pulled the trigger.    Currently, my P790 AW (50) is 1/4' SHORTER than CBX2 54 & the CBX2 58 is same length as the P790 AW.   This is simply because recent TM irons are 1/2 shorter than other brands.  They are listed as same length, but TM change the way they measure the iron lengths.    I can't decide if this would be worth it to shorten the 54 1/4 inch to match the AW and LW.  1/4' seems hardly noticeable, but my OCD is not happy.
