Popular Post DB86
I posted this over at THP earlier, but wanted to share it here also. So I stopped on my way home from work today at a local course to hit a bucket of balls and relieve some stress. About 3/4 of the way through the bucket a car pulls up and stops to watch while I swing. An older gentlemen gets out and asked how I was doing and said do you care if I watch you hit a few balls. I said no and kept on swinging. After a few more the man said "son you have a very nice swing, but I think you have a few minor problems with your set up. He said I'm not trying to interrupt, but I'm a PGA pro from Panama City FL and I'd be glad to give you a few pointers if you'd like". Now keep in mind we are in rural Southwest Va here. I said sure, figured he was nice enough I'll hear him out. So he gave me a few pointers which seemed to help and we started to chat back and forth. Anyway turns out he was an ex senior tour player by the name of Earl Boles. He said that he had his golf playing career ended by an accident with a drunk driver and had since decided to take up teaching. We talked for over an hour. He told stories about Nicklaus, Trevino, Player and a lot of other old legends that I didn't recognize. He is currently 80 years old and said he still teaches on a daily basis and plays weekly. It was truly unique and a blessing to meet him. BIG STU
That name sounds very familuar to me. When you see them again ask him if he kicked around on the minis in Florida in the 80s some especially the old Spacecoast tour. Now at 80 he would be older than I am but I remember the name from the recesses of my cobwebbed mind Quote Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex- 5W TM V-Steel Fubuki 60r--- 7W TM V-Steel UST Pro Force Gold 65R----- 9 W TM V Steel TM MAS stiff---- Irons 2015 TM TP CB Steel Fiber 95 R--- GW Callaway Mack Daddy 2 52* shaft unknown junk pile refugee. Kenny B
Great story! Earl looks just like Jim; one of the guys I play with during the week. He just turned 83 and is a very good stick. I hope I can play that well when I get to be his age!!
