Man... my son has always been into things I have a hard time relating to.

This morning he tells me he wants to be a Naval Aviator... A Pilot!

He’s 10, I don’t have the heart to tell him right now that he can’t be a pilot because of his color vision.

Mine wants to be a marine biologist and got to Duke for his undergrad and PhD. Want to do his Masters at Hawaii. Gets none of that from me at all.

I'll preface this by saying, woe is me, I live in Hawaii . But when I get an email from Global Golf saying I have 2800ish rewards points, I feel inclined to see if there's anything worth buying on the site. Tour360 XT-SL? That'll work. But when my $20 gift card is negated by $29.95 shipping, my excitement about trying the shoes is obliterated. Long live the island tax

I want to just share this for a moment. Please bear with me because I feel like the random thread is the best place for this right now. I’ve shared this with my wife and some friends.

 

In my personal experience, talking to others is my therapy.

 

Last night I received a text from friends who were on shift (fellow firefighters) who told me that a very well known Chief in our county passed away; he died from a suicide. I worked for him until 2017.

 

Sadness, disappointment, anger, acknowledgment; all of these were emotions that ran through my mind. This is the second friend who took their life that I have worked with in the past 2.5 years.

 

I’ve posted several times about behavioral health on this forum and I hope that in this loss, something positive can grow in its shadow.

 

So...if you’re struggling, you’ve survived 100% of your worst days. You’re doing great.

Every day we get a little bit better. I personally feel good. A few years ago I’d have bottled it in and I wouldn’t have been a pleasant person. Today I reached out to friends I haven’t spoken to in months and I feel really good.

Hardest thing to deal with in life. I have lost a few of those very near and dear to my heart the same way and many years later I still don’t understand the why.

I worked shifts in college as a paid FF and was a volunteer FF since I was 16 so going on 26 years. The stress is through the roof and doesn’t matter what part you are running. I got laughed at that all I do is drive and run the pumps when we have a job. I goof up and well the guys at the door are in trouble. I am very sorry for your loss and also thank you and every first responder for all that you do.

Engine operator is just as important as the nozzle or the search. The first five minutes for an engineer has been one of my favorite jobs.

Agreed. I’ve lost a few very close buddies over the last 20 years.

Double up on the first responder thank you. Funny story, I was pulled over yesterday for my window tint that I didn’t know was there. I ended up thanking the officer as he was part of the drug interdiction team, keeping my kids safe.

Goes unappreciated too often.
