I made that mistake with a Spyder putter when they first came out and were so hot on tour. I figured if so many that need to make putts for a living are switching to the Spyder, there must be something to it. My next 2 visits to the PGA SS I rolled about 50 putts and the Spyder was deadly, especially from 6 feet. So I bought one. First round on the course was a disaster. While putts on hard, fast and very flat carpeting at the SS were very accurate, adding slope with slower green speeds made judging distance very difficult with the Spyder. I basically had no feel with the Spyder and putted horribly, especially longer putts. This was a huge problem as putting is a strength of my game and after only 2 rounds I had zero confidence in my Spyder. I should have known better as I have always played with heavy toe hang, but after going through a spell of missing a few short putts hitting every short putt that seemed to find the center of the cup at the SS seemed like a no brainer. Torrey was totally underwhelming, but that’s largely because I’ve played so many other nice courses. Worse problems to have I suppose . daviddvm, yungkory, cnosil and 5 others 8 Quote LTDx Black 10.5º | UST LIN-Q M40X TSPX Blue 6F4 LTDx 3W 15º | UST LIN-Q M40X TSPX Blue 7F4 G425 3H 19º | UST Recoil Proto Hybrid 85F4 Z785 4-PW | UST Recoil 125 Proto F4 RTX ZipCore Tour Rack 50º Mid, 54º Mid, 60º Mid | UST Recoil Wedge Proto F4 ER5BV | BGT Stability Tour Tour B X

Honestly, playing places like Torrey or Pebble just don't sound that appealing to me. Sure, I would like to play them, but it's not like I would lose sleep the night before because of the name I guess I'm just not a big "course" guy? I appreciate greens that roll well, and everything else is just... meh. Might just be spoiled living in Hawaii, but honestly most of the courses I play at aren't particularly amazing, and @mr.hicksta can attest to that. Get me on a course with greens that aren't bumpy, and I'm a happy pineapple. Some of the courses I've seen you and @mr.hicksta play, the views would be hard to beat anywhere. tommc23, JohnSmalls, yungkory and 4 others
tony@CIC
I'm going to highjack the title of this thread and call it the "venting thread' at least for this post. Last year I ended up with a 21.5 index. With the new GHIN calculation this year it went up to 22.5. I worked hard over the winter on my drives, fairway shots and putting. After 20 rounds I was able to lower my Index to 19.6.as of last week. A pretty big downward jump given it was cold, windy and miserable for probably half of those rounds. FYI just 2 weeks ago I booked my best ever round of 84 but basically the top 8 out of 20 were based on 90-91 scoring rounds. The I get this email from the "Cap Patrol Police" at our club today: "Cap Patrol has flagged you for having inconsistencies in your handicap index. These initial adjustments are reflective of the last 10 years of GHIN data as well as the previous 2 seasons of tournament golf at CIC. Specifically, you have been flagged based on Cap Patrols metric of lack of accumulation of tournament points vs. handicap index trend over last 12 months. Current Index - 19.6 Cap Patrol Recommendation - 2.6 upward adjustment 75% of Cap Patrol Recommendation = 1.95 Rounded to 2 Resulting Handicap Index = 21.6 WT*, you're using 10 years worth of data and lack of tournament points??? Where's the incentive to get better??? Sorry Rant over.
