I'm going to highjack the title of this thread and call it the "venting thread' at least for this post.

Last year I ended up with a 21.5 index. With the new GHIN calculation this year it went up to 22.5. I worked hard over the winter on my drives, fairway shots and putting. After 20 rounds I was able to lower my Index to 19.6.as of last week.  A pretty big downward jump given it was cold, windy and miserable for probably half of those rounds. FYI just 2 weeks ago I booked my best ever round of 84 but basically the top 8 out of 20 were based on 90-91 scoring rounds.

The I get this email from the "Cap Patrol Police" at our club today:

"Cap Patrol has flagged you for having inconsistencies in your handicap index.  These initial adjustments are reflective of the last 10 years of GHIN data as well as the previous 2 seasons of tournament golf at CIC.  Specifically, you have been flagged based on Cap Patrols metric of lack of accumulation of tournament points vs. handicap index trend over last 12 months.

Current Index - 19.6
Cap Patrol Recommendation - 2.6 upward adjustment
75% of Cap Patrol Recommendation = 1.95 Rounded to 2
Resulting Handicap Index = 21.6

WT*, you're using 10 years worth of data and lack of tournament points??? Where's the incentive to get better??? 😡

Sorry Rant over.

That’s ridiculous. I am not familiar with courses where you’re a member and controlling the information but that makes no sense. Couple good round can drastically change your handicap especially logging 2 rounds a week (8 rounds/20 will really change things).

you got better that’s all that matters. I would have some choice words for them lol

Huh?

Someone needs to explain that one.  What does the last 10 years have to do with anything?

Or even last 2 years. Grrrrrrr. That email took the wind out of my sails today. My response to them:

Reading your email below, your 'upward adjustment' is based on "10 years of GHIN data as well as the previous 2 seasons of tournament golf at CIC" - that runs contrary to the spirit and results associated with improvement. Basically what I'm getting out of your email is that regardless of my improvement over this past winter and corresponding result in lower scores, you'll arbitrarily adjust my index? Please be more specific as to what lead to the 2 stroke increase in my index.

Ok I’m thinking they screwed up. There is a new soft cap and hard cap with the WHS but that is for increasing indexes. I haven’t seen anything for lowering indexes. There is an area where the handicap committee can increase an handicap but that is at the committee level and not the GHIN level. Weird.

This was definitely local level (re: Club) not our district association. I could see a change if I only had a couple of scores booked and I had one way out of range. But virtually all 20 were within 5 strokes of one another except for the one in the mid 80's.

Went to hit off a lie board today to check on things since my swing change. I used to be 2° upright but don't think it's necessary anymore. I guess being a bigger guy (6'2", 330 lbs) I don't look like a solid golfer so the guy hands me a huge game-improvement iron to warm up with. I asked him for the MP-20 blade and he commented it's a hard to club to hit, I told him it was fine. After I smoked three straight down the middle he checked my lie and sent me on my way. Pretty satisfying to show him up, haha.

Oh, and my lie is standard now so it's time to get my set bent back to normal.

So this happens to quite often.

The area code for the entire UP is 906.

Just so happens that morning and night I check the time at 906 nearly every day.

What does it all mean?!

Another new hobby, what happened to skateboarding?

Yeah... skateboarding. Fishing is a lot easier on my body.

I still ride it at least once a week, just going to cruise around on the thing. My days of big air and landing on my head are over.

Still working on the hardflip... on carpet.
