Summer and fall are amazing.  All 3 weeks of it.  5-7 months of no golf is no good for me.

I do love the serenity of the place, but I heard that the virus sent a lot of people up there as tourists this year, more than normal.  It is losing that serenity day by day.

That is awesome, I do want to move somewhere warmer after our son graduates high school. So a few more years.

I don't want to go all the way down to Florida, just something with mild winters.

I agree. I figure that is where I will end up. My daughter is going to school near Raleigh and my guess is she will end up in that area. Southern N.C. beaches would be a great place to retire when I can. Can be near my daughter and lots of good day trip golf.

Hey, there's zero snow recorded in Houghton so far:

http://mtukrc.org/met/weather_snow_data.htm

I went to Michigan Tech, after growing up in Virginia, imagine my culture shock at seeing 20 FEET of snow each winter.  At least I missed the big one, 356 inches in 78-79

Yes it is.
We had a condo in Surfside Beach SC for years and lived the area.
We’ve discussed moving back there to be a shorter distance to CT.

Love the Raleigh area too.  My dad works for Siemens Medical Systems, and they have a HQ there.  We used to go spend a few weeks while he was in training.  Played a golf course there once, the last time I went with them.  I think it was called Devil’s Ridge.  A co-worker if his was a member.  Sweet course.

Thanks fellas, much appreciated. The surgeon was very reassuring, my daughter asked a lot of good questions so we're all as prepared as can be for tomorrow. My wife is freaking out a little bit so I've got to be the relaxed one... or at least pretend to be, anyways.

Fingers crossed all goes well tomorrow morning.

It is fantastic that she is prepared and had questions about the procedure.

I know when I had my surgery last year I was out for a few hours, so I honestly don't remember anything.

But my wife, brother and my mom were freaking out, I can only imagine what they were thinking about as the minutes and hours ticked along.

I hope you and your wife find solace in the fact that we are here thinking of your daughter and you, as well as praying for the best outcome.

She is so pretty.

Lailla will be 6 months on Saturday the 17th, she is now on the phase where she wants to put everything on her mouth, from the dog's tail to her mom's phone, if she get her little fingers on it, it is going straight to her mouth.

She is sitting and on her first foods, so I cant wait to feed her some steak and mashed potatoes, the poor thing only have ever had apple, pear, carrots and green beans as baby foods.

daughter or grand daughter? Either way she's cute but 12 years away from horrible teenage years 😂

Next 3 days are gonna be nuts. My oldest is having surgery in Boston tomorrow so today's all the pre-op appointments and her COVID test. We'll find out later today what time her surgery will be, most likely earlier in the day since it's a 3 hour procedure, and then fingers crossed she'll be coming home Thursday afternoon. My wife will be staying in Boston with her and I'll be driving back and forth in all that lovely Boston traffic to make sure our youngest is all set with food, school, rehearsal, etc.

I hope things go well and she gets to come home as quickly as possible.

Sometimes I have random thoughts about how far along technology has come since I was a kid. Today I was printing a label with a digital label printer that you type on, and then it prints a little label.

When I was a kid, i used to use this:

so ironic you posted this today.  I was judy talking to our GM when i asked him to order a calculator for me, mine walked away...AGAIN.

we mentioned how far technology had come.  I told him my brother, sisters and I had bought him one of the first hand held Texas Instrument calculators for Christmas.  It was like $100 or so.  Now they are $3.99 throw away type things.

These were the BOMB way back when. Best Engineering/Manufacturing Calculator in its day. Your correct $100 plus but all of them were expensive then. I think I may still have one buried somewhere.

I used to “stash” them around the shop so I always had one close. After CAD came in didn’t need the TI as much.

Sometimes I have random thoughts about how far along technology has come since I was a kid. Today I was printing a label with a digital label printer that you type on, and then it prints a little label.

When I was a kid, i used to use this:

I remember those very well too.

Oh man i remember those.

so ironic you posted this today.

Now they are $3.99 throw away type things.

i think it was something like this.

We had to share one of those.

It might be still at my mom's house.

those Texas instrument calculators are still insanely expensive. i had to buy a TI-84+ for a statistics class last year and it ran me about $160

My dad taught statistics at USC, which might have been the reason we bought it for him 😀

Cool. Dad is no longer around, hopefully on my next trip down there our schedules will allow us to tell several stories over some good golf, food and a beverage or two.
