Soooo, how many penalty strokes?

I'm going to be completely honest. I have no idea. It's got to be up there. Too bad it didn't happen during the US Open. I'm sure the USGA would have a fun time picking this one apart...

Just read where Sam Saunders shot a 59 yesterday in the 1st round of the Web.com Championship.......and he did it with a “practice” ball. So the question is: When a ball is stamped practice by the mfg, does it still pass USGA and PGA specs?

Did a search and per the usga site it is conforming. The practice label is considered to be like a logo.

Rule 5-1

Status of "X-Out" and "Practice" Balls

Q. May I use an "x-out" ball or a ball stamped with "Practice" to play a round of golf?

A. Our present policy provides that if the List of Conforming Golf Balls or the One Ball Condition is in effect, a practice or logo ball may be used provided the other markings on the ball (i.e., pole and seam) correspond exactly to a ball listing on the current List of Conforming Golf Balls. Balls labeled with “PRACTICE” or a circled “P”, are essentially treated as a logo ball (such as a Mickey Mouse emblem). A player's name stamped on the ball is also acceptable. However, the original ball markings (i.e., pole and seam markings) must be readable in order for a Rules Official to determine whether that ball is on the List of Conforming Golf Balls. X-Out balls are not permitted to be used in any competition in which the List of Conforming Golf Balls or the One Ball Condition is in effect. However, if neither of these Conditions are in effect, X-Out balls may be used because all balls are presumed to conform unless they have been tested and found not to conform or are obviously non-conforming (e.g., too small or too heavy). (See Decisions 5-1/4).

  • 2 weeks later...

I thought this was worthy of a "random" conversation.

I have been following the state high school golf tournament online over the past two days.  A school in northern Virginia just posted a team score of 571 (-5) breaking the VHSL scoring record.  A kid on the team shot 78-74 and neither score counted toward his teams score.  He finished T-20 individually!

Remarkable!

No kidding!  Imaging shooting high school scores that impressive and NOT having them count.  Must be one supremely talented group of high school kids.

John Feinstein's nephews are on that team from what I understand.

Okay, someone give me some insight as to how this is possible. I have seen a lot of photos of th CA wildfires, all of which don't appear normal. Why are the houses in this photo burned to the ground and the green trees still standing? How is that possible? Is the temp. of these fires really high enough to melt steel?Screenshot_20171017-130037.png

I don't know how accurate this is, but I've heard green trees don't burn? Kind of to the same effect that people spray their house with water when the fire is heading towards them?

Not sure why the green ones didn't but if you look closely there are quite a few charred trees.

What has a lower burning point, green wood or steel? There is absolutely nothing left of the houses. You would expect to see all kinds of metal products but you really see nothing. A forest fire doesn't just melt glass and metal...

Are steel frame houses common in the area? We still have wood frame, and if the glass broke you wouldn't see it from that shot
