Minor update:  my daughter's prognosis is starting to look more positive...the cardiologist has come back and said he does NOT feel surgery is necessary.

Something is still amiss in that she's excessively fatigued and short of breath of late, and we're waiting a few more weeks for more tests and more results, but to hear that open-heart surgery is likely not necessary is a HUGE relief.

Needless to say, as high as the stress has been I haven't felt inclined to touch a club, or participate much here...apologies.  I'll do my best to remedy that in the coming days and weeks.

Nothing to apologize for.  Everyone is pulling for your daughter!!

Watching fly fishing videos on YouTube of fishing in Montana. Making me excited for my hunting trip to Montana next year and I definitely think I’m going to take my fly rod with me and fish a little when it’s super hot so I don’t burn my dogs out

So.... On Saturday, my 5 year old refridgerator took a s***. On Monday, my watrer main broke near the house. My basement was under 2" of water. Can't get a repair man for the fridge until Thursday evening. Called a company we do work for to come and get my basement cleaned up and dried out. I can't get the excavater to call me back to see about digging the old main out and replacing it. I have been without a refridgerator for 5 days and without water for 3 days.  Home owner's ins. won't cover the water main, just the inside cleanup and damage to furnishings. I'm thinking this will cost me around 7 - 8k out of pocket before it's done... if I ever get someone to fix the water main.

Sorry to hear about all this mess.  Hope everything gets fixed up quickly.

Ugh that really blows.

General question, though, for anyone who may know -- sounds like the section of pipe is on the homeowner's property but is that the homeowner's responsibility or the water utility's?

The service line from the main to the house on the owner's property is the owner's responsibility to get the repair and pay for it.  Our town in the past year sent around what looked like an endorsed offer for service line insurance to defray the cost of such a repair, at first glance set off my warning flags but looking into it we decided to take on the insurance as the cost would be ballpark $5G-$10G and what was negotiated by the town and offered to residents was very reasonable.  Hope we just pay and never need the front yard dug up.

Absolutely correct. The lateral (that's what the line from the main to the house is called) is the owners responsibility, same with the sewer line. I work for the local sewer department.

Yup, had a similar problem many years ago 1st house.  I paid up.
There was a side issue because there was a main sewer line than ran thru our property to a sub division in back of us.

I’ve been doing the Velcro strips on my waking carts and now golf cars for about 10-12 years.  Works great and keeps them dried out.

That is a sucky 1 -2 punch.  Must be the week for refrigerators to go belly up.  The one couple I do work for had their high end bosch fridge crap out as a result of some power surges due to a car taking out a utility pole close by.  The Bosch 1-800 service line is completely useless.  The closest tech we found is over 45 min away and is booked up until the 29th!  If bosch is on your appliance list you may want to check out their service in your area.

Ya know.... a 4 hour rental of a ditch witch and a roll of 3/4" poly tubing with a few hose clamps will probably get ya back in the wet!

Is this turning into a "Golf Hacks" thread lmao

Similar idea - I use self adhesive velcro across the top of my golf cart for hanging wet gloves. Occasionally, on hot humid days my wet hat finds its way up there as well.

We've been in SCG for 3 weeks now and I've been solicited by 4 different solar companies.  If this trend holds, I should have about 50 to choose from 😆. One of the negotiated items on this house was the cost of replacing the roof underlayment - which was agreed too and I had done prior to us getting here.  With that now done and good for the next 20+ years, I feel better about the idea of adding solar.

I've already tossed out the lease option and will do a owned system.  I think having a years worth of our utility bills will be the best basis for establishing system requirements but my rough calculations suggest an ROI of 7-9 years. Not terrible, but not great either.  This includes rebate programs which are significantly less than years ago.  If the feds and states are really wanting folks to invest in this technology, it seems they should rethink the amount of sugar cubes.

So who's invested in home solar systems and what has been your "real" vs. "estimated" savings, and expected ROI?

With the tax returns you get you can pay off a decent amount of the loan on a purchased system quickly. My electric bill for the month was $20 and that is nothing at all. I sell back and make $50 a month along with my state paying me nearly the same amount. For me to cover my electric running a pool I would need my panels on a better roof angle
