I dont think it was Johnny U, you may be thinking of a different QB, John Brodie.  I think he was a pretty good golfer but not sure if he actually won a Sr Tour event.

Yep! It was John Brodie.  He won the N. California Amateur as a kid, played in some US Opens, and won one tournament in 13 years on the Champions Tour.

Are you thinking about John Brodie - qb for the 49'ers?

random thought of the day. i've come to the conclusion that 90 gram class steel shaft != 90 gram class graphite iron shaft. the 90 gram class graphite shafts generally feel quite a bit stiffer than equivalent weight steel shafts. not saying thats a good thing, a bad thing, etc., but there is a difference.

Is that anecdotal or have you confirmed using tests?

I think that assessment is based on the person.  for me personally, I struggle to distinguish  the feel differences between shafts.  My actual swing may be different,  but the physical feel is the same.

People say the feel the shaft load and unload or if it is whippy or boardy or that they feel the clubhead.   I am from 120 gram iron shafts to 85 and really didn’t notice a difference.   I recently changed my wedge shafts from heavy steel to 90 gram graphite. I get better results, but I don’t “feel” anything related to the club.   If we look at launch monitor data, there is probably some difference but again I don’t feel anything.  When doing testing we try different shafts, but we are adjusting to launch data not really what I feel.  They will, ask me how the shaft feels and my answer is typically “fine” 😁.  Hitting clubs as part of testing doesn’t mean I am sensitive to the feels of different components.

Like most men you probably need sensitivity training!!  Just ask you wife i bet she agrees!  😄

I can feel shaft flex and head weight differences in drivers and fairway woods.  Less so in hybrids.  I can feel head weight differences in irons but not flex.

... My sr year in high school we were going live at practice because the HC was at a conference and the DC ran practice. Rare to go live on the QB, but no yellow jersey for me this day. Double move on the right side so I had to pump and wait an extra second but the left tackle screwed up his assignment and didn't block the DE right in front of him thinking he had the LB. I got blindsided and it took me a few extra seconds to get my bearings.

... DC had the tackle stand in the shotgun and run the same play and told him not to move an inch from his position and don;t throw the ball til he says so. Same DE got to hit him because the DC told the 2nd team tackle not to block the DE and the DC never said throw the ball. Just to make sure, he did it 2 more times adding a LB blitzing the 3rd time. "Now you know what it is like to be hit by someone as a QB because you forgot to block them" After practice the tackle said he had never been hit like that and promised he would do everything in his power to never let it happen to me again. He said even though you get beat up in the trenches every play and had to watch the QB just hand it off or throw it without being touched, if he had to take hits while standing in the pocket and not being able to meet the contact he would not be playing football.

... After watching my son play DE in college I am not going to compare being hit in the pocket to the guys that have to battle like a gladiator every single play, but those QB hits are like being in an auto accident without a seat belt. And I only experienced what it was like from college players. I honestly can't imagine how catastrophic it is to be hit by the kind of speed, strength and size that is todays NFL player. With leather helmets and no facemask, the game was not designed to be played by these guys that are 6'4" and 275 getting to full speed in 3 steps. Biased of course but you have to protect the QB or every team would go through 4 or 5 a season.

Both. Personally have hit Steelfibers, Recoils, and then a number of different steel shafts in the same session that were in the 90 gram class. The graphite shafts felt more stout in my opinion than the steel shafts I tried.

Also, Russ Ryden from Golfshaftreviews has stated based on his measurements that graphite shafts tend to measure out as being as stout as steel shafts 10 to 20 grams heavier.

I recognize both are generalizations and there will always be exceptions.

I actually also don't have a good sense of feel of shaft differences (besides weight) until impact. At impact, i can feel a kick on some shafts, minimal kick on other shafts, and something in between with others.

If i hit a 90 gram KBS and a 90 gram true temper, I could not tell the difference in feel.

If you can at MGS, try hitting a Steelfiber i95 Stiff and then try hitting a DG 95 S or a Nippon 950GH S.

😱Panic Attack😱.  Got to the course the other day and realized I'd left my V2 at home.  Quick call to my wife and she drove the long 0.3 miles to save the day.  As we're still getting through the short strokes of our "move in", I don't have everything in its place so to speak... that's now fixed for the V2 and my compression strap 👍.

I only started using these yardage devices about 4 years ago and now find myself feeling buck naked without one.  How about you?  Could you revert back to the days of looking for yardage rocks, stakes, sprinkler heads and pacing off the distance? Pretty dang handy they are and suspect they are helping speed up pace of play.

I did that twice this year. I got to the first tee, looked at my wrist and no GPS watch. Left it charging at home. I usually have it hanging on my bag after charging. No big deal...... I have the laser in my bag. Then I decided I could play without both to see how it goes. Having played there 1000 times helped but it added a whole lot more looking and thinking. For me the GPS watch is perfect. No aiming which reduces time even more. Look at your wrist and pull a club.

The second time I forgot it I did use the laser.

arrived Seattle at 4:20am Friday   🙂
left Seattle at 5:50am Friday    🙂
arrived Louisville, KY 12:45pm Friday    😲
     left Louisville, KY  4:00pm Friday
arrived Seattle at 5:30pm Friday    🙃

I hope it didn't go back to Louisville, KY   🤣

The way it's looking, the next stop will be Miami. That's pretty close to Seattle, right?

It’s a pain in the butt to read through a weeks worth of posts here. I didn’t have cell service for most of the week and hunting was my vacation so I didn’t pay attention to the forum at all. I’m sure I’ll just skip a bunch of posts because dang a week plus is hard to read through

Only been popping in and out on the forum lately. I think I did a bad thing but yet exciting at the same time. I put my house on the market just to see and it sold in less than a week. I have six weeks to get out and I don't know where I'm going!  Been house hunting the last two weekends. Looking in the sand hills area of North Carolina. I'll be busy for sure.

I haven't played golf in two weeks. It's killing me!

Good luck with everything! Plenty of new golf courses to explore in NC 👍
