After a few weeks of research and reviews on reducing transfer heat and cold from the outside and different manufacturers, I’m going with the below photo. It’s available through Walmart as a delivered product. It also has easy installation. No cutting or anything. The added bonus is that it is light weight so you don’t have to increase the door spring tension.

That's on the list for improvements this winter. Don't need it for the cold, but the heat - yikes !  Our garage faces west so that summer sun in Florida makes the garage intolerable.

I know we have the LIV/PGA nonsense and golf ball rollback to thank for much of this, but have to shout-out the entire community for all their engagement and activity this month as we are 40ish posts away from 9k! I mentioned this before in the staff slack and I think on the community call, but we have had 1 other December in the history of the forum over 4100 posts (December 2020 with 9100). However back then signups for tests were also counted towards posts and there was over 2k posts for signups.

When I was brought on as Forum Director we (Adam and I) had a call about the forum and what we needed and what we should do. Part of that was bring it back to the basics. Get ppl talking and sharing their golf and life everything. Bring back the community feel we had all but most.

The fact we can more than double our previous norm for an off-season month just goes to show what this community can be and how great we are.

It shows the growth we have seen and that just because many of us can't golf doesn't mean we can't be active here.

Bottom line everyone here is awesome and thank you!

It's been great to see the amount of activity on the forum this month, I couldn't tell you how many times I couldn't be on for a couple of hours and come back to between 10-20 notifications. The forum staff has done an amazing job with the forum and I'm happy to see the growth. The members have also been an integral part of this, they have created topics that have garnered interest and discussion.

I don't think we'll have a problem breaking the record from 2020 this year.

Thank to everyone for making this the place to come talk golf.

Second this - I took 2023 off from the forum to wrangle in some professional and home-front chaos. I was missing some community connection, and was pleasantly surprised to see so many familiar names and avatars upon returning (the profile photo requirement for testing is a secret gem IMHO).

I was shocked at the amount of activity in the off-season. As someone who didn’t experience the trickle of changes, the consolidation and restructuring of the forums are a dramatic improvement. I spend less time considering and navigating which specific bucket any topic might fit into, and more time reading/reacting to the community’s content.

Kudos on the effective refocusing of the community on the vital few - the content metrics are a clear indicator of that success!

I'm not mad, Alabama lost in OT play! That means it was a solid game! Sure there are things that should have been done, but the better team won!

On instagram Mygolfspy was giving away 3 custom sets of zx5mkii irons if the account got to 300k followers by midnight on New Year’s Eve.  I haven’t seen any announcements of them reaching before midnight?  Does anyone know?  There’s a good chance I just missed it.

Maybe the @GolfSpy_APH or one of the other mods who run the social accounts are better to ask?

Panic at the country club yesterday and this morning. First let me describe the course layout. Front 9 is on one side of a river and the back side on the other side. There are two bridges. One that gets you over from the 10th tee box and one that returns you over on to the 18th green. All the course equipment is located in sheds on the back 9.

The bridge inspector came to the club yesterday and shut down the big bridge. It is not safe anymore. No equipment can get over to the front 9 without a several mile road trip out the back of the property and around a community. The small bridge is only wide enough for a golf cart and if you stuck your knee out, you'd be in the hospital.

Today the grounds crew started building a small bridge over another creek to connect the 10 fairway to the 18th fairway to at least be able to play the back 9 utilizing the small bridge. Caution will be required for sure. After teeing off on 10 you will have to drive back around through the parking lot to drive over the bridge on 18 with people hitting into the 18th green. Also, the driving range is on the back 9. They would have to go over the bridge on 18 cut across to 10, cut across the fairway on 10 to get to it.

What a mess and who knows how much it will cost for a new bridge. What's that I smell. That was my monthly dues increasing.

Bridges.png.6608310a2f7ddfbb5f02058be25e8d7c.png

That sucks and hopefully they don't go up too much. I feel the pain my local course was bought and is getting renovated it was a deal last year, but membership went up $500 with only the front 9 open almost this whole year. I can only imagine next year will be worse probably well north of $2000 which is hard to actually play enough to make up for. There is a course more like 30 away that just got bought, its a little tight and interesting but is much cheaper. Hopefully they will do more modest improvements. I have my laments about all this but I will spare everyone that.

I too found out course woes for my favorite local gc. So i feel your pains. While it is definitely needed,  they are doing a complete tear out and rebuild of the par 3 course from tee to green,  that I've come to love/hate quite well. It was only 25 per 18 with cart. It begins Feb 2nd and is Expected to take 2 years.

Ouch. Have to imagine re-building that bridge ain't no cheap affair......

One of the reasons I joined the club I did is that there are NO capital assessments (beyond initiation) .. so no big surprises like this. It's their responsibility to maintain a capital/reserve fund for infrastructure improvements. Of course that does not preclude annual dues from increasing - but which they have tried to limit since I've been there - next year will be going up +$500.

Does look like a nice course, though!

We don’t have capital assessments but there is no guarantee that the dues will not increase. I had a reduced rate for the first year which just ended. So my monthly rate just went up $40.00.
I was planning on going to the course later and see what the plan is but SWMBO wants to go shopping. Plus it is right near where I dropped my old set of clubs off to be re-shafted. Looks like I’m picking up my clubs.
