Despite some struggles emotionally and mentally in my personal life, I’ve been happy to have a place where I can come, share like-minded stories and learn from many of you.  You folks gave me a reason to rediscover the game I love  

So as I hit submit and hit 4,000, it’s my sincere thank you to each of you. Thanks for keeping me engaged and distracted from life’s struggles

For you Veterans that do DIY at home. 

Home Depot just made a big splash with their Veterans discount - generally 10% except sale items. Guess they decided they were losing too much to Lowes veteran's discount. HD had one before but not very well communicated. 

This is a big plus for me as I live about 5 min from a Home Depot and about 25 minutes via a white knuckle drive on Rt. 75. to Lowes. 

The process is a bit different at checkout at HD since you have to use a QR code (HD app) on your phone. On the other hand you can self checkout and just scan the code in.

The splash is about the debut of the phone app for checkout, they have had the Veteran discount for years as I was using it before I was aware of Lowes doing the same thing.  I preferred the old way of showing proof of service and the entry of phone # aka the old way for getting the discount. 

Always appreciated is the checkout clerk's thank you for service (should be thank you for sacrifice but not going to be rude when someone is being kind).  And yes I wait for checkout since I don't work there and will not self-checkout since they are not about to extend an employee discount for my purchases.

Something else that Home Depot does it have a reserved parking spot for Veterans next to the Handicap spots in front of the store.

Given the way we were treated coming back from Vietnam, even a half hearted thank you is a big improvement. I'm not bashful, I'll ask everyone for a veterans discount and get it most of the time.

Here I am sitting in the SLC airport on our flight to Palm Springs.  First time flying since pre-pan-damn-ic, and 3 years since I flew through SLC.  What to my surprise?!  Brand new airport!!  Apparently, they built this new one and then tore down the entire old one and buried it.  

So far, no problems.  We had a plane and a flight crew!!

So this is a really embarrassing question to ask after being 1,500 posts in, but are there any “best practices” anyone can recommend for staying abreast of new content on this forum?  I’ve typically just randomly sorted through the threads but I find I’m missing some good content.  I typically get on the forum via my iPhone, sometimes the laptop.

And here I thought I wasn’t a newb…

We are all trying to learn.  Like @Shanksterpointed out the new content button is what I used.   I setup the filter to show me anything that is unread, but I filtered out questions, images, and albums .   Since we aren't like some of the larger forums there isn't an overwhelming amount of new content.  I then scroll through the list to find topics that I find interesting.   Once I get through the list,  I'll hit the mark forum read button and start again next time I am on the forum.
