Oh brother........... do I understand! It happens. You can't beat yourself up over it. I know because I was doing just that after 3 weeks of shooting in the 90's.... and 50's on league night. a wise member on here set me straight............ don't recognize a previous bad round, it just gets in your head and ruins the next one. Just go out and have fun..... you know how to do this, if you just let it happen.

So I was a sub in men's league last night - not a great night for me and playing against the top team made it even more frustrating. Anyway I'm on the second to last hole. Drive is decent but in the rough with 140 yards to go. My next shot is fat and goes only about 30 yds. Next shot is a beautiful pitch onto the green lands about 15 ' from the pin. 2 put in for a bogey. My partner puts me down for a bogey 5. The guy on the other team says no adamantly it was a 6. I explained the shots he says no I had a problem getting out of the rough. Finally I just gave in (we had won the hole anyway) in the interests of not raising a stink (we are playing at a private club). I think he just figured I was so much worse than him that there was no way I could have beat him on the hole. FYI this has never happened with the dozens of other guys I played with at the club. Frustrating.

I agree, and I have, it just got to the point when I keep thinking, "When will I stop playing golf swing and these swing changes become MY SWING?" I've been on this road for three years now. It's getting old. Chipping yips have now taken over...

Whenever that happens to me I just think back to what Tiger said - all you have to do is get that ball in that hole as quickly as possible.  nothing else matters...not what you look like not how you do it not if you take a divot not if you lean the shaft forward not if you stand upright not if you lean over not if you play a slice not if you play a hook not if you hit a low bullet not if you hit a high shot not if you fall back not if you fall forward not if you hit a long way not if you hit it short not if you....

helps me just stop thinking about ANYTHING and just contact the ball and make it go at the target.

Small rant and it's not a huge deal but it was pretty annoying. Earlier today I went to a course with a friend and it wasn't one I had ever played before but heard decent things about it. He has played there once about 5 years ago and really didn't remember the course.

We check in and all is good go get warmed up and start the round, but when we walk up the the tee I realize there is no map of the course whatsoever. No hole layout anywhere to be found. Not on their website, score card or at the course. I know there are apps and gps systems that may have the course layout, but I'm a little old fashion and like to see somewhere at the course. I really enjoyed the round and played very well all things considered. It just sucks knowing I left some shots out there simply by not knowing where and when to go for shots with a lot of them being blind.

Anyway there is my rant. I guess I should just suck it up and get with technology and use one of the gps apps on my phone.

I agree with you. I personally don't want to even look at my phone while golfing.... It's my time to ignore the world. No problems, worries, etc for 4 hours.

Not to talk you into it, but I got a GPS for Christmas and I quite like it. Plugged it in to the computer to get the courses on it and good to go. Battery lasts about 3-4 rounds.

Our #2 hole comes back along #1 to the clubhouse and parking lot.  It's a short par 4.  The green is surrounded by big grassy mounds about 10-12 feet high, then there is about 50 yards to the parking lot.

We had finished our round and were loading bags into my car when a ball lands on the asphalt and hits a truck parked next to my car.  BANG!  (10th time I have almost been hit by a ball this year, but that's another story.)  Shortly after that, an older guy drives around the back of the green on the cart path headed to the #3 tee and stops.  He's about 50 yards away and doesn't get out of the cart.

Me:  The ball hit this truck.

Guy:  The kid is just learning the game.

Me:  Is he coming over to get his ball and apologize?

Guy:  What for?

Me:  Because it's the right thing to do.

Guy:  Get over it!  (and drove off)

I never saw the kid.  We went inside and my wife told the marshal who went to talk to them.  The marshal told me that he could tell that the conversation was not going anywhere and gave up.  Our marshals are not very good with confrontations.

If that's what parents are teaching their kids about golf etiquette these days, I'd hate to see what this game looks like in 20 years.... oh that's right, I won't!

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

It's something that I am looking into likely for next season and am considering now that I am playing a lot more. Even on my home course I'm sure it would help with more exact distances.

Cksurfdude is right; communications is important to fix the issues that arise. As for the yelling part, that's what this rant thread is about. Also going to the range and taking your anger out on that little white balls can be thereputical.

LOL.. I have actually started to use my phone more on the course. I have a SkyCaddie and they have an app as well. A few times I didn't have the right course info downloaded to my skycaddie (you have to connect it to the PC to update it) so I went to using the App in conjunction with my Laser. I can download the info right there at the course and my stats are instantly updated online. Of course I have the ringer off and one of the hardest thing to do is replying to the email notifications that come up, but I manage ;)

Etiquette is sorely lacking in all aspects of life these days. Sad commentary on society...

It's something that I am looking into likely for next season and am considering now that I am playing a lot more. Even on my home course I'm sure it would help with more exact distances.

I like it because on my course, only half the sprinkler heads have yardages on them
