MDGolfHacker
I hope you end up better than I did. I had all of our family photos residing on an external hard drive - forgot to transfer them when I bought a new desktop. The external hard drive fails so 20,000 family photos plus old archived business files no longer accessible. Had to send it off to a recovery service and paid $1,000. to have the files restored. Now all of the files reside on my desktop, plus I do continuous backups to a solid state hard drive. I hate to pay money for stupid operator (me) errors like that but at least the got the files. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy I work in IT but still run into this that's why I have a redundant drive array running on my server so even if a drive fails my data is protected. Problem is, I have to make sure all the local laptops and desktops are BACKED UP TO that server. What sucks is since that last post, I've had another drive fail in my primary desktop (not as as bad so I was able to recover the data easily) and my home media server application gave up the ghost too. Corruption went down to the registry level so I can't even reload the app without reinstalling the OS. I have gotten lazy with the management of my own hardware and maintaining proper backups. Need to get back on the bandwagon so I don't have to spend my time golfing for fixing my own computers... Lol MDGolfHacker tommc23, ole gray and cksurfdude 3 Quote TSssWhat's In This Lefty's Bag? MDGolfHacker
Hardware fails always suck. We use a program called binary biz when our clients have failed disks. It's paid software and not guaranteed to work but it's saved a few of them from needing to ship drives and pay bigger money. We're not data recovery specialists but we do best effort and sometimes it works. Best thing you can do for yourself is upload a backup to Amazon s3. Dirt cheap cloud storage as long as you aren't uploading often. Do it once a month and you can cover yourself in case your backup disk also fails Sent from my Pixel XL using MyGolfSpy mobile app Yeah, pretty sure the laptop drive is a physical drive head crash into the platter so if I wanted to recover the data, I would probably have to send it to a data recovery company (some of those companies actually take the drive apart in a clean room to work on the hardware directly). My wife's phone and my phone backup to a cloud provider and there were apps to do the same for the desktops, but I just didn't configure them as I was pretty busy at the time, lol. My subscription is up with them next month and I'm thinking of switching to Amazon's S3 offering or Google drive. My personal data alone is 5TB for total backup not including the three systems I run so I'll have to see which one is running a decent deal. MDGolfHacker Quote TSssWhat's In This Lefty's Bag? ddryan
OK, where to begin? Spent a week in Pinehurst- a great place, great time and great folks- 19 of my closest golf friends, some closer than others, but great guys every one. We get together each year and do this thing- culminating in a tournament that spans 4 days with 4 different formats and 3 different courses, and usually 3 or 4 different partners and opponents. I arrived last Wednesday and shot a sweet 81 on a never before seen course "Mid- South" - of course, there was no pressure- it was a "fun pre- tournament round!" the next day, back on a course that I knew, I shoot an 89. following day 93, and so on throughout the tournament- Topping shots, sculling wedge shots, and shaving more edges than a Brazilian waxing salon... shot for S&*t and scored very poorly. A couple of the winners are 20+ handicappers, who amazingly shot in the 80's on several rounds - my handicap, while not the problem in and of itself, didn't provide any assistance to me or anyone playing with me. First, why do I play like crap on these trips? And how do people overcome this to play at least respectably? I mean I usually shoot in the low to mid 80's and almost every round for me was in the 90's. WTH? Any assistance would be appreciated. cksurfdude 1 Quote What's in the bag? STUDque
It's all mental man. You're taking yourself away from a fun round and adding too much importance. ddryan
Thanks Brother- appreciate the insight- I was really hot on the last day, and played myself out of contention- I was down 4 at the turn, was able to fight back and was down 2 with 3 to play, made par on 16, then drove my tee shot on 17 into a fairway bunker, punched out and had a simple 150 yard shot to a get-able hole position and promptly topped an 8 iron into the greenside bunker, basically giving him the match. cksurfdude
I would take a lesson once per month.During the lesson,on the range, mirror work: would always do exactly what the pro wanted. For some reason once on the course,it all disappeared every time.Almost like i would just freeze over the ball and have no idea what to do.No matter the swing speed I could never once replicate what he wanted me to do.And my game just suffered from over thinking and analyzing.Decided to just swing again and the scores and frustration improved dramatically. The countless hours of off course work would never bleed over to the course swing.Im going to try again and do my best. One thing you don't want to do on the course is to over think it. The driving range is to think and practice, the course is to do. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy Totally and completely agree with that comment! Also suggest to go back and re-read @KennyB's earlier comment. It's very hard but you have to try to separate two very distinct things.... 1. Practicing golf swing (on the range) Vs. 2. Playing golf (on the course) Read an article recently, written by a playing and teaching Pro, about practicing .. she suggested it takes 21 days - of daily work and not playing - to start to ingrain a new position into your swing.
