I'm glad you are OK.  It's a real bummer to go through this.  I got rear-ended a few years ago and it was expensive for the repair, and the damage was NOTHING like the picture of your Lexus.  I would suspect totaled.  Best of luck in the search for a car.  It's a real jungle out there!!

My wife is looking for a replacement for her 2003 Mercedes E320 wagon.  She needs room to haul photo equipment, and of course golf clubs.  I have been looking at some of the dealerships at SUVs.  One day I happened to ask if she had ever considered a minivan.  I saw my life pass in front of me!!  Not ever going to happen.

As unexciting as they are, they are really good for golf trip/equipment and actually very comfortable.  I had one (not by choice, I was supposed to have an F150) had one on my trip to Florida earlier this year, drove it round trip from Tampa to Pensacola and it was actually pretty good.   Although I don't think I turned any heads of anyone....ha

Please not a mini van. But my buddys wife mini van sure was handy on our trips to Foxboro, Giants Stadium and Fenway!!

Now if you go for the 911 you'll have to make a decision: do I take my clubs or my wife (or other passenger) - you won't be able to take both

Hacker, really sorry to hear of your accident, but genuinely happy that you were not physically hurt.   It is my understanding, I'm not certain, that determining a vehicle is totaled is an economic factor.   That is, if it costs more to fix it than to replace it, it will be considered totaled.  Under any circumstance, having been in a accident, make sure that you are compensated for the lost value of the vehicle.    

 

Having just gone through this, the determining value is about 75% of blue book value.  You will be offered the blue book value; which you have a right to negotiate.

We would have to drive to the course separately.  My wife would take her clubs to the course in the Porsche. 

 

Regarding the minivan, she might get one; might, but it has to go from 0-60 in less than 7 sec.

That reminds me of the story of the guy that knew his wife was upset but had no idea why.   So he asks, why can I do to make you happy.  She says, well, tomorrow morning, if I see something in the driveway that can can go from 0 to 200 in seconds.   Next morning she gets up and there it sits in the driveway-----a bathroom scale.

It is always amazing how quickly a car depreciates. I was hoping that mine was worth more since it only had 7000 miles on it when it was totaled. I just hate having to start car shopping again. Here is what mine looked like

I was just glad my daughter, her boyfriend and the people in the other car were ok. I was surprised no airbags were deployed in the car. Apparently since it was not hit in the front and to far forward on the side for any of the bags to deploy. Impact spun the car 180 degrees and onto the sidewalk. My daughter was turning left off of my street. Driver of the other car said he was doing 35 when he hit the car. While my daughter was at fault for not yielding right of way, I think he had to be doing faster. The EMTs and tow truck driver asked what happened because they could figure out the accident since the damage was on the wrong side of my daughters car and the other car was half a block down the main road.

Insurance adjuster stopped at $23k worth of damage and said that was without digging into all the engine damage. Has taken a few weeks but it seems like all the insurance settlements have been done and the judge was nice to my daughter and told her she has to go to a driving school and come back in6 months. If no tickets or anything he will dismiss the ticket.

That is most people's thought when they see the car. Cop said unless there is a fatality they don't do investigation into speed and listen to the stories of the drivers to determine fault.

 

With only a big knot on her head from hitting the window and having to have us drive her to school everyday it is a life learning experience for my daughter.

Holy moly with damage like that I would have expected serious injuries - glad your daughter and everyone else were uninjured. I hope if I ever have to go to court I'd have a judge like your daughter had.

 

BTW her biggest punishment is having to have a parent drive her to school. Does she make you drop her off a block away so no one will see?

Man.... Got invited to play golf this Tuesday at the country club in-town, but can't do it since wife is working late and I have to get the kids from school. Ugh. Been two years since I've been invited to play there. Crud!!!!!

Yikes!! Yeah I'd say thsts a total. Such a shame on so new of car. Good she learned a lesson without being seriously hurt.
