Popular Post sixcat
Gonna rant on something I didn't expect to be upset about. Please bear with me. We have a young civil engineer who will be leaving the company tomorrow after several years of dedicated and valuable employment. His leaving will be difficult to overcome given our rural footprint but something we've dealt with for 24 years. It's his prerogative to live his life as he sees fit and certainly not our place to hold him back. He is immensely talented, intelligent and dedicated to the clients he served. To say the least, he will be missed, even if he is a Wahoo (had to take a dig at you The Wahoo). My issue has most certainly not been with his leaving, his handling of the situation or the timing in which this is all taking place. My issue has been with the way senior management has chosen to deal with his leaving. Pettiness, hostility and open degradation isn't appropriate nor is it acceptable for a professional environment. I have shared my concerns with senior management and was promptly told to stay out of it. I'm not willing to do that and let them know as much! This is a very new experience for me with this company. I have been here for 11 years and have never seen anything approaching the level of pettiness from the powers that be. It's disappointing to say the least. This has been a place of employment I have been proud and honored to represent. I have tried to represent them in a way they could be equally as proud to have me as a member of the team. Based on some of the information tossed about over the past few days, I have come to believe, management is upset simply because he is a "millennial" and is going to live abroad while he is still young and unattached. Like I said, petty! I wish him nothing but continued success and all the best in everything he does. I also wish for management to realize the pettiness they exhibit now is on full display for those of us who remain with the company! sixcat
It's a shame that your managers are handling it this way - they should be aware of how it reflects on them rather than on the person leaving. The person leaving has worked under my supervision since he joined the firm so I feel compelled and even a bit obligated to defend him to our superiors. As Tom Hanks says in Saving Private Ryan, "complaints go up the chain of command, never down". It shouldn't be taken personally that he is leaving. Especially considering he is moving overseas while he is still a young man. He gave us nearly 2 months notice which is more than acceptable. He even reimbursed the company the expense of his licensing fees. Like I said, petty and disappointing. tommc23, 00sportsman, Golfspy_CG2 and 4 others

That is, there will not be an extended period of extremely hot days. But, I am not optimistic, why am I not optimistic? Mother Nature may have given you an atypical cold winter, but our atypical winter was last year. We always play golf all year long here. Sometimes it's cold, but it doesn't last too long. We might get a little snow but it usually melts in a couple of days. LAST YEAR, we got snow from Jan1- Mar 1 and it never got above freezing. We had more snow on the ground last winter than the previous 25 winters combined. I feel for you folks back east, but I'm happy that we are back to normal. Now, if the wind would just quit blowing... Next year, let us know how you are doing, it could help us prepare. Summer last year was normal for us. 90's to low 100's from June to Sept. We only had one week at 105+. It has been a fairly wet year so far. We have had over 3 inches of rain since Jan 1. That's about 1/2 of our annual rainfall for the year. hockey_dad
Here's my rant for the day. I have two golf buddies who I've been playing regularly with for 3 years. This year due to stuff happening in their kids' hockey team one guy no longer wants to play golf with the other. One guy has no idea why the other has not come out lately and I have been playing alternate days with each of them and lying to the guy who has no clue. It's getting tiring answering/avoiding questions and I'm tired of having to cover the other guys ass cause he won't deal with his problem directly. Not so bad though still playing twice a week so I'm not really crying too hard.
