Dude, I wouldn't of even have done that! Those are wish lists, not anything that has to do with the structural validity of the house. I would of said no and have a good day, then kicked them out the door. Your a better man than me!

Yeah, in hindsight I really wish I wouldn't have. My father in law is a Michigan county building inspector... he did my inspection, I trust his word over anyone else's.

He called me a effing idiot for finishing the bathroom. Haha

You have every right to say No and walk away.  Remember that.  Sometimes, that's the hardest thing to see during negotiations.  They are going to ask for everything under the sun.  That's how negotiations are.  Don't let them pressure you.  Do what's best FOR YOU and your family.

Trust the “old timer”, he's been around the block a few more times and knows how people can be.

What I hate about HGTV shows is that they do (pick one): remodel, paint room and trim, landscape, etc in 30 min. That leads my wife to think you (meaning me) can easily do that project in short order. The other is that many times when they show owners or hosts painting they don't do the details properly, i.e.painting around switch plate, door handles, thermostats vs undoing them and then reinstalling after the paint dries.

I've had to make a very focused effort to set expectations and timelines at the beginning of any project because of this very issue. I also make a checklist so why it takes X amount of time to do Y is made clear.

I plan on it.

Wants me to hire an electrician to replace an outlet, and add an attic light... nope, I can do that in 10 minutes for around $7 and not have to pay $75 a hour.

Yup, that sounds pretty damn petty - like buying a used car and asking the dealer to replace a missing tire valve cap.  Unless it's a code and safety issue, I'd be inclined to say no as well. We had deck railing that the home inspection wrote up for not complying with current code (vertical rail spacing).  Really Einstein?  Most of the homes in America no longer meet new codes, but did when the home was built. We did offer a little to compensate for this a couple of other minor things; but only because I had just retired and we wanted out of Pugetropolis so bad our teeth ached  :).

Played 5 holes this afternoon when the course opened up after being closed for 1.5 days for aerating.  Looks like no scores will be posted the next week or so, since we will be moving the ball in the fairway and maximum of a 2-putt on the greens.  I know it will make the course better, but ...  Grrrr!

They punched and sanded the greens here on Monday. I've never seen so much sand in my life. Was planning on playing this week, but I don't think it's even worth it. The greens looked like giant bunkers.

I would say you are lucky.  My course skimps on sand, so when they irrigate that night the sand is washed into the holes but it's not enough to fill them up.  We will have very bumpy greens until the greens heal.

True. Just annoying. I hate sand.

Yes! Other people think I am crazy when I say that.

Because now is prime time for grass root growth. Punching now will allow the holes to fill in and any grass they plant to take hold before first frost

They just wrapped up doing all 12 course last week and are almost done with the Execs.

We try to work around play to miss the aeration and sand and then the final top dressing. They stagger the aeration and publish a schedule so we watch that closely, well I do since I do the tee times.

My son finishes up his first week of the red phase in basic training tomorrow (Friday) and we have yet to receive the Commander's letter.    He arrived on base 8/28 and was in processing until last Friday 9/27. Once we get the Commander's letter all the good info will be available like Company facebook pages with pictures, family day, and graduation dates. You also know who's in your soldiers Company so you can bond with the parents going through the same cycle.   Just ranting and you'd think I was an ole Mother Hen..   :D

You got that right!  I had the opportunity to call home one time when I was in Vietnam and that was to give my Dad the OK to send power of attorney for signature.  My wife ran around on me while I was there.

Heck with the new Company Facebook pages you can keep up with your trainees training, see pics of action shots, talk with other parents whose kids are in same Company, etc.   All sorts of good media info that makes the families at home seem part of the process.

Army sure has changed since the 60's. We were lucky to survive the DI's.

I'll have a short visit with him at Family Day and then again at Graduation.  Not sure how much leave he has post graduation however hopefully I can get in a good chat before he heads to his first duty station.  His Mom lives in Macon, Ga. and I live up near Athens so I'm thinking he will spend most of his time in his hometown.  I'll grab a day or two with him and pick his brain.

If I remember correctly Basic we were pretty much locked down, AIT loosened up a lot.

I'm sure he'll have ton of stories that'll bring back a ton of memories

I obviously don't know your son, Gray, but I can tell you about mine.  (We're going back to the early 90s, now.)

When he was home on leave from the army, the last thing that he wanted to talk about was the army.  If I tried to "pick his brain," he'd have gotten up and gone to a hotel.

He wanted to talk about ball games and boxing matches that he'd missed and what some of his friends had been up to.

But that's us.

You and your boy could be completely different.

Yeah I still remember Basic even though it was 50 years ago. Especially the first day - where we all (probably 500 of us) had to drop our pants for a physical in the Drill hall. Basic training at Great Lakes Naval Trasining Center in the middle of winter - not so much fun. .

Apparently my car had a recall for the ignition switch. So much for a quick free oil change and tire rotation. Wish I had brought my laptop so I could finish up my Stage 2 for the Mizuno ST-180 while I waited.
