  • 3 weeks later...

Returned home to Montana and, upon winding up my parents antique wall clock... bang...thunk...twang 😬.  It ran, on time, for about 30 minutes then stopped.  I'm pretty sure it is a main spring.  I was with them in 1973 when they purchased it from a store in Carmel, CA (still have the receipt).  I've located a clock repair store in Bozeman and hoping they can do the repairs.  I'm already missing the sound of its tick-tock swing pendulum in the quiet of the night 😢.

Brought the cat in for dental surgery yesterday. $3500 later and we're giving him steroids and pain meds at home with no guarantees, so it's fingers crossed for Mr. Bill.20210304_162135_capture.jpeg.a584df62723a8db478145f6c4bf0d123.jpeg20210107_222129.jpeg.513ddcb0e5a0618cbf60ad75c6197e82.jpeg

But of course it did. It'd be interesting to see if it's an historical code and they cleared it before you bought it.

So far, I have reasonable optimism that it's going to be trivial, but those are famous last words in auto repair. I have a Bluetooth car scanner, and it's saying it's a cylinder misfire. Having it looked at by my local mechanic (the dealer has already agreed to pay for that) to make sure it's not something more serious.

If that's what it is, it's either a spark plug or a coil...hopefully.

Either way dealer should pay for all repairs since you just bought the car or take it back as a lemon.

Not all states have used car lemon laws. Some it’s only for new or if the car is still under original warranty

Correct. I believe in Michigan it's only for new cars within one year of purchase, and they have to attempt to resolve the problem something like four times.

My parents bought a brand new truck a few years back and constantly have run into issues with it, including blowing the engine up while on the highway. It's continually being fixed under warranty, but since it's a different issue every time there is no recourse other than to sell.

You're lucky the dealer is going to pay for it. I had a cylinder misfire on my Porsche. Local mechanic thought it could be plugs or coils. $500. later he gave up. Had to take it to a Porche indy shop who promptly and correctly diagnosed it as a stuck lifter. FYI that requires removing the engine. Cost? Don't ask. Of course that's the first issue I had with the car in 19 years (it's a 2002)

A few years ago my brother and I went to the Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale - an absolute bucket list item for fellow car enthusiasts. I was amazed at the number of BMW's, Jaguars, Mercedes, and to a lesser extent Porsches, only about 10 years old, that were selling for what I thought were crazy low prices.  Like original MSRP's of $100K+ for less than $20K. I mean we're talking plush interiors, convertibles, and high performance.

We spoke to one of the staff about it and he said that the market was not particularly strong for them at that time,  But, even more a factor, is that the repair and maintenance costs were crazy high and frequently needed.  Like a spark plug change for $1200 on a V12 or a headlamp assembly for $600 😱.

I know understand why when visiting places like Las Vegas one routinely sees exotic cars zipping around all over the place.  One can pick one of these up for a song and look like their a zillionaire.

Hmmm 19 years later the book value of my Porsche is just about 30% of the original MSRP and the resale price is starting to climb.  I think like all toys, the initial depreciation is steep - but as long as the thought process is buy and hold it's probably better than your average sedan or SUV. Ferrari on the other hand you might to wait several generations. BTW all new coils and plugs which are easily reachable was about $500. Anything serious and you have to drop the engine out of it which is a routine procedure about $700.

I think I've successfully navigated past the desire for a hot ride, but every once in awhile I get the hankering for one of these 😍.  Mostly because my brother is a big car buff and has had GT350 Roush, a Bullitt, and now a California Special.

Back in the early '70's in my young and stoopid days of car racing, I seriously consider buying a Ferrari... a used Dino 246GT with 15K miles on it; personal car of Ron Tonkin, big car dealer in Portland, also the Ferrari dealer.  It was the same price as my first house I bought 2 years earlier.  I didn't buy it because basically I'm cheap frugal; there was an annual maintenance cost of $1200 + parts.  And that was the V6 engine!!!

Presuming you kept it in top shape, care to guess what that investment would be worth today?  The great news is that you could sell your house and get this one 🤣

Received the second dose of Moderna  on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00. All was well until Thursday afternoon around 3:00. Dam thing kicked my butt. No strength, chills, face was burning up, no taste. I thought I would just lay down for a while around 4:30 yesterday. I woke up at 7:00 this morning. I don't think I ever slept 14 hours straight.  Almost feel back to normal now. Appetite and taste are back, energy level is picking up. Just in time for some golf this weekend.

Just like clockwork! Glad it was over as quick as it came on

Good you're feeling better so quickly.  I think @dlow206 and @Grand Stranded each had those symptoms once but it was from not ordering a club for 48 hours straight!  They quickly healed themselves!!  🤣

😱

I’m looking at my sig, and I have to admit, you’re spot on here, you wascally wabbit!!!

Over the last 6 months I’ve completely redone my entire 14 club set up. On the bright side I’ve made a few new friends at the PGASS, and I’m on a first name basis with the Fed Ex and UPS drivers in my neighborhood. So there’s that, lol.

Im so bored out of my mind not being able to play because of my back, I probably have about 10 items in various carts on different golf sites right now, none of which I’ll be able to use for at least another month... 🙄

No joke, I bought a Sun Mountain 2.5+ stand bag this winter because I planned on walking during the summer when I’m up on Long Island. Now with the back thing I have going on, I’m thinking it might be wiser to get a push cart instead.

I think @Shapotomous just thinks of us as impulsive ho’s, when what we’re really doing is just looking to explore every option.

Every. Single. Option.

I like someone that leaves no stone unturned!!!

Did you notice I left @Golfspy_CG2 out....I want to stay on his good side so he lets me browse through his reject pile when he is able to wade through that mountain of brown boxes in his office!   🕵️‍♂️
