Tomorrow and Monday morning we have a chance for a frost delay. On these borderline mornings for frost we can’t totally make a call until sunrise which is currently well after 7:00 now.

On days like that I wouldn't even bother showing up until after noon.  Nothing but a time waster.

People really stop or slow down to take pictures? Why in the world ?

Bridgestone Tour B JGR Driver and HF2 irons Pre Release Testing

I can’t count how many parents I’ve seen slow down, record the scene with their phones while their children are in car seats.

We have a SOG where we send an engine and a ladder to accidents on the expressway. The ladder parks behind the scene as a blocker to protect the scene and control traffic. On several occasions I’ve been a blocker guarding the left shoulder lane and have had cars drive up the left shoulder outside of the traffic lane to get past the accident.

I “politely” signal the troopers or sheriff to then introduce themselves to the drivers who disobey traffic laws. The reactions I get when I ask them what they think I’m doing blocking traffic is baffling.

Wow..just wow!  People are unbeleivable.  I love the "my time is more important to wait out the backup like everyone else" attitude.

In a similar context, commute daily over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge during the summer.   When reaching the top of the bridge, often people will slow down to take pictures.  Its like some people have never seen water or ships before.   There are some electronic signs before the toll booths on the east bound span.   I have suggested that they make a sign that reads "this bridge is not a scenic  overlook".    When exiting the west bound span, if there are bikini clad ladies on boats heading back to Sandy Point, that I can understand.

I remember as a young boy taking the ferry going south and the bridge going back home.

The ferry still had segregated restrooms and water fountains back then.

That left an impression.

Not sure if this is happy or a rant.

This time every year I grow my beard out since it was my Dad’s last round of chemo. He unfortunately lost his battle with cancer in April of 2013.

My youngest (Age 7) told me she was happy I was growing my beard. Then she said didn’t I have a beard at like age ten? Told her it was age 12 but she was close. Then she said well I guess you never needed a fake ID then???

She is 7 f’in years old???

And she was not wrong.

As part of our normal pre winter check list of stuff to do we had a guy come out to clean (wood burning) fireplace/chimney. In addition to the normal cleaning that we've done in the past this guy had a camera to scope the flue. And as you can imagine he found several bricks that had big voids in them.  So not only doesn't my wife get to have the winter fires that she loves, we're going to have to take care of this. New flue would be 8-10K. We're thinking a gas insert will probably be a lot less. Either way this is unexpected and a pretty big expense on top of my son's wedding coming up next month., a brand new set of tires on my wife's car and a new set on my car as well. 😡😡

About 10 years ago I put in a gas insert into my fireplace.  One of the  best things I ever did!  Our house is not very big, mostly because we didn't want something that took a lot of work to maintain.  Our fireplace will heat the main part of the house quickly on the lowest setting, and the fireplace has a reasonable wood burning look to it; a lot less work and mess.  I recommend!

A little rant -  If you read the car buying thread, my wife and I bought her a new(er) vehicle a few weeks ago.  It's a used 2017 Volvo XC60 SUV.  Nice car and she likes it a lot.  We bought it from a very reputable used car lot in town.  The only problem is that it only came with one remote key; we need two.  It must be purchased at a Volvo dealer, of course, and it must be paired with the car and other remote to make sure they work together.  The problem other than the $350 cost?  We have no Volvo dealer within 250 miles; Portland or Seattle.  Fortunately, I am in Corvallis, OR this weekend visiting my dad on his 88th birthday, and there is a Volvo dealer in town.  I'm scheduled in their service dept tomorrow morning.

As some of you may remember, I had to drop the tank in my truck because the top of the fuel pump rotted out.

Found over the weekend that my wifes Rav4 is leaking fuel now. However, further investigation revealed that it's not just the filler hose that needs replacing but the entire tank. It's leaking right where the filler hose connects to the tank and from what I can see it's the tank that's the issue because of rust...16 years in salty NE Ohio will do that.

Here's the rant part, why in the name of all that's holy couldn't Toyota have used a plastic tank like 95% of the manufacturers? Go ahead, use a metal tank that's prone to rust, what a fantastic idea!

Spent two days replacing the clutch in my car (getting the transmission off is a rant in itself) to fix a sound I was sure was a broken clutch (and it was absolutely frigged up, shavings everywhere and some loose parts). Put it all back together, fired it up and the sound is still there 🤬 in the next couple weeks gonna drop the tranny again and take it apart to replace the bearing(s) making the noise.

Close on my house Friday.

Somehow I went from making $5,600 to $245.

Only own the place for 4 years. But after the shite this guy pulled I am in the red on this sale now in a “sellers market”, so irritated that I told my realtor to make it so I don’t have it be at closing and have to look at that jackwagon.

Never again.
