Yes, that does add to the issues. I see it with my own kids... A kind of unforced isolation when playing/using the iPad. I've resorted to banning iPad use during the week. Now if I could only get my wife away from her iPhone...lol

“Thank you “ is a forgotten phrase. It's getting worse as folks now except everyone to do stuff for them. I run 3 sometimes 4 golf groups a week. There are some guys who do appreciate it but there are others who think I'm their “personal golf secretary”.

Every fall at our marina I would buy pizzas for the crew (20 pizzas) in appreciation of the work they do. In the beginning I would get thank you cards and they guys would also personally thank me.. Two years ago I didn't get a card and the guys didn't thank me. So I stopped buying pizzas guess they just took it for granted. Now they're probably wondering why I'm not doing it.

I see it in schools too. We have a policy that allows kids to bring their own devices, but it amazes me how many kids Snapchat each other in the other room. I've also had issues with students texting each other in the same room...two seats away...when they're actually allowed to talk.

I have a friend who organizes a 16 person trip to Pinehurst every year. He often says, "If you find yourself having too many "friends" just organize a golf road trip, you're bound to piss off at least 3 or 4 of them, that will vow to never speak to you again...LOL

 

I'm always pleasantly surprised when I hold the door open for someone entering or leaving a restaurant and get a sincere Thank You as they enter or leave. I've seen so many that just keep on going full speed with their heads buried in their phones,

Every once in a while I'll get a “big time grumbler” who doesn't like the group he's in, tee time too early/late etc and I have my stock answers, “when you run your group you can do it that way” or “we may live in a democracy but this golf group isn't”.

Helping my son today fix the home brew wiring in his new to him home. PO tied in knob and tube wiring to romex, no junction boxes, etc. Yes he did have a home inspection - but they didn't look behind the walls.

Water would be off until 7am.  They said that I should have gotten a "doorknob hanger" a couple of weeks ago informing me that the water would be off.  I didn't get one.

I trust that you now have running water.  But when I read that you got up to pee and there was no running water, my immediate thought was something much different.   I've got to stop thinking like the old coot I am.

Water came back on at 5:30am.

 

I appreciate the thought.  That happened about 6 years ago; a result of prostate cancer surgery.  Apparently, scar tissue broke loose according to the Doc.  All is good now, but it's something that will always be on my mind.

Ouch! The one in my home is the original one from 1998 when the house was built so I'm hoping it goes for another year. At that point I'll replace it with maybe a tankless system and a new hvac system too. Hope it didn't cause too much damage!
