Got Problems?

Recommended Posts

I've lived the entirety of my 43 years in the rural south. Snakes are an everyday occurrence during the warmer months. Whether your region calls them black snakes, black rat snakes of black racers, leave them alone. They will be your best protection against venomous breeds.

They are not aggressive by nature and will only strike as a means of last resort. They will "musk" rather easily, though, when they feel the least bit threatened. That smell is awful.

Where we lived in CT they were mostly copperheads and some rattlesnakes. I learned at a very early age to be careful.

Even if I wanted to SWMBO would not let me kill the snake if it's not a poison one. She likes me too do non lethal means to get rid of problem animals.

I grew up in the middle of the Jefferson National Forest on the border between North Carolina and Virginia.  The mountain range directly behind the house I grew up in is called "Devil's Den".  The one in front is called "Iron Mountain".  It's an extremely rocky section of the Appalachian Mountain range with deep canyons carved out by The New River.  It is completely engulfed with Timber Rattlesnakes.  Copperheads and Cottonmouths are common as well but mostly stay clear of occupied areas.  We didn't see them nearly as often as Timber Rattlers unless we were messing around the river.  But those Rattlesnakes were everywhere.

For that matter, bobcats and black bear were as well.  We definitely had to be careful.  I've seen black bear while walking my home course.  If you leave them alone and don't get between the mom and her cubs, they won't bother you either.

I'm pretty sure I "musk" too when threatened....usually denoted by an awful smell and browning around the pant seat area.... :D :D

MDGolfHacker

that is too funny! Next time I have a gaseous problem I'll just tell people I'm musking

Bears Ok that's another part of the country I'm avoiding. Northern Ohio just doesn't seem as bad anymore.

You got me on the bears, only seen a couple and that was 30 years ago. Cottonmouths not till we moved to FL.

We had a black snake on #18 today.   Pretty good size one however there were two crows giving him hell.   We ran the crows off so he could scoot off to the woods however when we looked back, the crows were back pecking at him.

I hate crows as well. When we get them here they scatter the bird population. Last year I chased 2 of them away when they cornered a small owl in my neighbors yard.

This is getting ridiculous... 2-3” per hour!!! Supposed to get 8-10” total today.

It was supposed to be 6-9" in this end of the UP, but I woke up to about 4" (though there should be at least some more today).

Took my family to Philly for a few days and headed south with my son today to see our old neighborhood. Wanted to stop in at my old club and say hello.....and they were closed. Not closed as in not ready for the season, but closed as in fenced off and boarded up clubhouse. I knew it was purchased a few years back but was not aware it was closing this year. Damn shame as it was a really nice track.

I did the attic last year pulled all the plaster and lathe. This year it's the second level two rooms which haven't been done yet. The blown in insulation that was hand packed from the level above makes it even more horrible.

I was hoping not to come into this thread ever, but after seeing this out there during our round yesterday, I just had to...Rant-on.

Sunflower seeds do NOT need to be spit anywhere on a golf course-Period. Totally unacceptable on greens especially. There is enough junk to clean off of those normally already and spending the extra time cleaning up that mess slows play and generally pisses me off! So STOP IT!
