College Football Playoffs

Severtheties

Recommended Posts

So I know this isn't golf related but considering we have people from all over the country and the world I wanted to get everyone's take on the current rankings, what could happen this week, and on Sunday what teams you think will be in the top 4 and why.

I live in Ohio and specifically in Columbus so I'm of course a Buckeye's fan. Even though we wont win our conference title, I think our resume speaks for itself. I'm also a firm believer that the rankings should end with the BEST 4 teams in the country, regardless of conference championships.

Alabama will obviously be in and are going to be a tough team to beat for whoever has to face them.

If either Clemson or Washington loses I think Michigan has a chance to also jump back into the playoffs, although that argument is made harder if Penn State wins the championship. I think Colorado also has a chance to jump up depending on what the teams above them do this weekend.

What I DO know is this year has been incredibly exciting in college football and this weekend promises even more excitement. This Sunday when the final results are put out should create quite a conversation all around the country.

Pretty much similar thoughts as you.  I agree Ohio State should be in.  I mean come on, does anybody really want to see Penn St. in a semi final or Championship Game.  I certainly don't.  I'd like to see Clemson get another shot at the title, Alabama has had it's time...ha

I'm reeling at the thought of an Ohio State / Michigan championship possibility.

I'm not so sure we'd take them out a second time right now. Lord knows they'd be out for blood even more so than the first time.

Washington isn't one of the best teams, they don't deserve to be in period. I'm going to use the same argument I've heard from SEC people...the big ten is the best conference by far, they deserve two teams in because a loss for vthem isn't nearly as damning as one loss for Washington or clemson who are both playing in lesser conferences

Gotta agree on Ohio State in the #2 slot -- after that, the committee better hope Wisconsin beats Penn State and Washington beats Colorado, then it'll be easy to pick Clemson and Washington.  If Penn State wins, then what do you do?

Bias vote incoming...local to Columbus so no chance I say no to my Bucks.

I've heard so many arguments this week for who should be in and who should be out that I don't think there's ever going to be a consensus in current or future formats. I do feel that it should be the best 4/8/16 teams that play for a chance at the ship. However I'm not sold on how we get there moving forward.

For this year assuming each of these teams win their conf game it should be:

Bama

OSU

Clemson

Washington

In that order...

There are many possibilities, here is my thought, Alabama is in, the other 3 teams depend on wins and losses in the conference championship games. If penn state wins, Clemson wins, and Washington wins, there is a huge problem, because you have 3 major conference winners, that may put OSU out, but not likely. So I have 2 scenarios. 1. Alabama, Ohio St., Clemson, Michigan.

2. Alabama, Ohio St., Clemson, Penn st., I don't think Washingtons, or Colorado's schedule was strong enough to get them in, but with this committee you never know what they will do. They say they want the best 4 teams regardless of conference championships, so if that's the case, those 4 teams this season have been Alabama, Ohio St. Michigan, Clemson. That's why my first scenario is what it is, the second scenario is more likely to happen especially if Penn St. wins. That's my thoughts on it. It will be interesting to see what the committee decides after next weekend.

Again I'm biased, but I think OSU's record and current ranking trump PSU's conf championship (if they win)

The committee has stated they want the 4 best and not necessarily the 4 conf champs.

Think about it...what happens if Florida happens to pull off a major upset...is the committee then going to say oh sorry Bama you didn't win conf championship you're out...

Eh they beat who they were supposed to. The SEC has been weak the last few years.

I'm bumping up this thread as today is when the we will see who plays for the national championship.  The Big Four teeing it up today and quite a few other games on the card.  College football fans will be drooling like a hungry dog at a T-bone steak grill out.

I don't have a dawg in the fight (my Dawgs beat TCU yesterday in Liberty bowl) however I'm thinking Bama will be the team holding the title when the dust settles. The Tide's defense is the best I have ever seen and could probably wreck havoc on many pro teams.  The four teams playing tonight will put on a show and I don't see anyone blowing out the other opponent.

I would have to disagree with that. As good as some college teams are, they are just not up to taking on an NFL team... not even the Browns.

That said, I don't think Bama is going to be taken down this year. But.... I'm going to root on the Buckeyes as hard as I can! Ya never know!

Hmmmm it would be an interesting game vs the Browns.. :P With that said I'm strictly going on technique.  I played line backer in high school and solid defense is something I admire.

With that said, the Huskers just took the ball down the field like a champ and scored....

It should be one hell of a game :D

Bama's D looks like they might be getting in a rhythm which will not be a good thing for the Huskies.

Ok time for the next playoff game and I'm thinking this one will be a close one.   I'm guessing Ohio St. might pull this one out however that's purely speculation.   Let's see who brings home the trophy.

Hmmmmm not so sure we made the right pick partner.   Clemson is looking really good tonight and the Buckeyes are not hitting all cylinders.   At least in the first half.

Meyer is probably telling them it's Michigan in orange unis. Now they'll come out and play lol.

Honesty I don't like either team. They just don't sit right with me.
