sixcat
A sprinkler head on #4 at my home club was struck by lightning Friday afternoon during a massive thunderstorm that dumped more than 2 inches of rain in less than an hour. The lightning strike left a crater in the ground nearly the size of a VW Beetle and blanketed the surrounding area with an inch of charred dirt/sand mix. It looks like it snowed an inch for 100 feet radius around the crater. tony@CIC, Rickp, Kenny B and 1 other

I have to admit, I didn't notice the damage while playing over the weekend which is a testament to the staff at the club. They had it cleaned up nicely by yesterday afternoon. A picture of the damage is in today's local newspaper. I tried to copy the image from the newspaper website but they have it protected behind a paywall. Kor.A.Door
We’ve been in the upper 80’s and 90’s since May with indexes in the upper 90’s and 100’s. It’s just something you deal with in the south. Playing in a cart isn’t so bad, walking can be a bit hot though. It’s funny listening to my family and friends up north talking about the heat. They’ve had hot days for a bout a week and they can’t do anything outside because it’s too hot. Here in the south I have to mow my grass at 8 pm when it’s still 88° outside with 80% humidity, hoping that the sun is low enough that it doesn’t beat you down. sirchunksalot, Kenny B, JohnSmalls and 1 other 4 Quote Lefties are always in their Right Mind

My wife wants to help mow the lawn (exercise), but she's still working. I start mowing around 4:30pm, mowing around all the curbs, trees, things in the yard, etc., then she gets home and mows the middle of the yard. Total time about 90 minutes. The problem is it's 100º when she gets home. I'd rather mow all of the yard at 8am when its 75º than 1/2 the yard when it's 100º. sirchunksalot, tony@CIC, Rickp and 1 other 4 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

CarlH
We've been enjoying good weather and smoke free ----- until last night. A fire broke out 75 miles to the NW of us and quickly spread to over 200 acres and is now estimated at 750 acres ---- all started by an illegal campfire (thank you very much!). Last night, the smoke rolled into the valley, reeking the smell of burning wood and reducing visibility to 2.5 miles as the winds are coming from the NW and will likely continue for the next several days. We can expect smoke and hazardous breathing conditions until the fire is out and/or the winds shift. Kenny B
Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning we had a huge lightning storm come through eastern WA. We might get a strong T-storn cell or two moving through occasionally, but this was big. In a 24 hour period... 28,630 cloud flashes and 3,499 club to ground strikes. The two paths of storms went just east and west of us, but we could see the flashes. The storms sparked 30 fires from the Methow Valley in northern WA to Yakima. The one outside Yakima is send smoke into our area... cough, cough!!
