Shapotomous
We hit 60 yesterday afternoon and the warmth continues as it was 54 this morning when I took the dog out. 1/2" of rain overnight but it looks like that has moved out as the clouds are breaking up. 10-15 mph of wind going on now getting more of the oak leaves off the trees. I think I'll be done with the yearly leaf assault by next weekend. I started up the stoker last week when we had that 22* night and with the temps rising since then I've had a couple windows open occasionally to keep the house below 74! Even with it being thermostat driven it runs 3 minutes every 15 minutes to keep a fire going which throws off some unnecessary heat. At least the parents aren't sitting around with electric blankets on!! I could shut it down but it doesn't take much to keep it going and if it was out the propane furnace would be kicking on. ejgaudette
Thought it might be fun to share some fun weather info for those who are interested. This morning I got thinking with winter coming about the changes this brings, as the jet stream powers up. The question then is why does the jet stream here by NH and in the "mid-latitudes" get going so much more in the winter. This is because the jet stream in this part of the world is most influenced by the different temperatures. Basically, because it is 80 in Florida and 10 here in NH provides the starting energy of the jet stream. Hope people enjoy this and happy to share more, finally put that degree to good use. Indeed there is, though it s a bit different given the lack of land down there, its mostly ocean, just the tip of Africa, South America, and then Australia in the way. There is also a tropical Jet Stream closer to the equator, this set up what they call the 3 cell system in our atmosphere, but this one is cause mostly by the earths rotation, not temperature differences. Kenny B
Well December is here tomorrow and with it comes the cold weather. It's been in the 40's and low 50's with sun the last couple of weeks, but now we have sunny, mostly sunny and partly cloudy days into next week. That means it gets cold at night; low 20's with little cloud cover to hold in the heat, and mid-30's for high temps. Bad for golf!! If it stayed below freezing, we could play, but when it warms up above freezing from the sun, the grass will suffer when we play on it.
