Well, we had the freezing rain all day, and thankfully it stopped for the night. It was still fun to take my girls outside and show them “crunchy” snow, ice covered cars, icicles everywhere etc. They were amazed by the sound of their footsteps and took a THOUSAND pictures!

Time for some cool.  Literally this has to do with ice crystals in the atmosphere...

While I was practicing my swing, with a shovel, moving the "Buffalo sunshine" that fell in the supposed winter storm the day before, I looked up and said, "Hey cool a sun dog" seeing the one on the right.  Then noticed the one on the left and said, "awesome a double sun dog!" And then I noticed the top one and the halo connecting all three and the sun pillar rising from the central sun and (took the picture first) then called to my wife and said "you gotta come out and see this!"  as she is a science teacher too.

There are secondary refractions off each one of the three sun dog nexus that look like horns or crowns and sun pillar like a beam upward from the sun.  The lower ray is sun flare in the camera lens. It's all about the refraction of sunlight off ice crystals in the atmosphere at exactly 120⁰ of incidence between the observer's eyes and the sun. It is due to the angle of the microscopic crystal pattern of frozen water most easily seen in the form of a snowflake that is the amplified growth of the crystal before it descends to the ground.

Can't help it, taught both Earth Science and Physics, and it still doesn't help my handicap ⛳🏌️‍♂️

33 degrees here, that’s Celsius , so about 91F, a rare hot day this summer. Very pleasant having a beer in the pool.

All that aside, really feeling for those of you suffering through crazy and unusual weather for where you are.

Stay safe and hopefully warm.

It started here about an hour ago.....We are in the 1" - 5" band.  The stuff coming down now is hard snow / light ice.  It's falling at about the speed of rain rather than slowly like flakes.

We talked to our neighbor at our Ohio condo today, she said we got 13" with more to come Thursday and Sunday nights. Weird that we got more snow at the west end of the lake than you did on the southeast side of Cleveland. Generally we have always gotten less than my son in Hinkley.

We're right on 76 east of Akron so we straddle the line where it could go either way with the snow totals.

We were in 6-8” band yesterday. Got the report from our vendor this morning and it said “we will be a 4 part storm” never a good way to start an email! But we are 3-5” over the next 32 hours or so. Part 1/3 will be light snow part 2/4 heavy wet snow. But 5” over that long a span I’ll take it!

3-6 sounds delightful. One scrape halfway through then another at the end.

I noticed something odd last time I was shoveling because I’m a lefty. I strongly prefer shoveling lefty, but golf righty. So none of that scoop and throw is helping my off-season strength training.

We get dust devils here all the time.  Some are little and I've been hit by them; other are big and go hundreds of feet in the air.  I wouldn't want to be hit by one of those!!  Dust Devils is the name of our minor league baseball team.

Those haboobs are pretty spectacular!  In 2012 we saw a similar one in Palm Springs while on the golf course.

It was during the American Express tournament, then the Humana Challenge.  It shut down that tournament for the day.  We played on, and a giant tumbleweed rolled up my wife's back as she was teeing off on #16.

AKA Dust Storm and saw one of those roll over us when I was in Iraq, no fun at all.  Hot and obscures like a blizzard.  Breathing through a mask is essential.

Yeah when they first started here a while back, the only reference anybody had was that they looked like the middle Eastern desert dust storms that we've seen in movies, photos, etc. Pretty wild sight for sure! What's even more strange is that they re-appeared regularly for only a few years at about 1 every few days for abou 2 months straight.. and now we might get 1 per season. The earth is a strange rock man.

This cracks me up, largely because I've switched grips/positions when shoveling the driveway this year, each time thinking about dominant and non-dominant swings and avoid strength imbalances.  It's the details man!

This cracks me up, largely because I've switched grips/positions when shoveling the driveway this year, each time thinking about dominant and non-dominant swings and avoid strength imbalances.  It's the details man!

I mean... if you're not thinking about golf when your outside shoveling snow I'm not sure how you even get through the winter.  hahaha

We ended up with less than 2" of tiny ice pellets....the kind you used to get in a snow cone.  I didn't have to work on my swing shoveling - I just had to push the shovel like a plow &  the ice pellets flew off the shovel face.  My legs were getting tired so I tried to get SWMBO to sit on the tailgate of the truck holding the shovel at ground level while I backed up around the driveway but I couldn't get any cooperation to make my rube goldberg plow come to life.

Snow gone in Scotland hopefully for the Winter. Big thaw this week means course open for 18 holes for the 1st time in 3 weeks but lots of stormy weather coming in from the Atlantic, hopefully avoiding the course leaving in open for the 1st competitive golf at the weekend.

Played the 18 today, dry but gusting up to 25mph, my driving was abysmal to start with and started double, bogey, double, par, double. 7 over after 5 then fished 8 over for the remaining 13.  Really rusty but happy with the finish.
